bböp
The first Wilco show in Portugal, and it was a pretty solid performance. A very respectful crowd that pretty much stayed seated throughout, which I'm sure was OK with the band since for awhile it was sort of unclear exactly how many people would show up. But it eventually filled in pretty well. It certainly was a beautiful theater, pretty newly restored by the looks of it. I think I saw that Andrew Bird was scheduled to play there not long after Wilco. Anyway, in one way or another, Jeff mentioned about three separate times that there were plenty of good seats still available for the following night's show in Lisbon. Once came after a very polite crowd request for "Kamera." Jeff's reply was something like, "We'll play it tomorrow night if you come to Lisbon." Haha. Nels also had a pretty bad equipment breakdown during "I'm The Man Who Loves You." I'm not sure if it was an amp or a pedal problem, but Pat had to fill in a guitar riff on keyboard at one point. So that was interesting. 50footqueenie
I really enjoyed this show - we had weird seats though - sitting in wooden thrones almost right on the side of the stage, so the view was good but the sound kinda one sided... Jeff was in very good form and just kept on wanting to add songs and more songs to the set it seemed and although the crowd seemed a bit reserved, close inspection (from my throne!) revealed they were really getting into it. It might have been the exposure to the 34C heat we all had to avoid to get into the show! Jeff apologised for having no Portuguese and asked what the word for for 'stiffing' was as he believed the turnout the next night in Lisbon was going to be really poor. He also thought they (the band) had been 'very depressing' for the first half of the set. I haven't seen the band since November 07 in Dublin, but thought they still really are enjoying themselves and their music making - we certainly were.
