Wendy
http://wilcoworld.net/causes/ Nora Guthrie thanks Wilco fans for "Jolly Banker" donations Mon, 15 Jun 2009 17:23:11 -0500 Thanks to all of you who hit the "suggested donation" button while downloading Wilco's version of Woody Guthrie's the "Jolly Banker". We've now crossed the $10,000 dollar mark in funds raised for the Woody Guthrie Archives. A note to you all from Nora Guthrie: This is a BIG, BIG thank you to Wilco, Tony, and their legion of workers, friends and fans, for their glorious recording of "The Jolly Banker". The idea started out after seeing all those 'Jollies' line up before Congress to answer a few questions. Remembering Woody's line, "A folksong can tell you who's broke and where the money is", I figured it was time to resurrect the song. So I gave the band a call. Wilco's decision to make it available online to raise some bucks for the Archives - and raise the bucks they have! - came as a total heart-warming surprise. In one fell download swoop, Wilco wiped the smirk off that Jolly Banker's face and put the biggest smile on mine. We're so very moved and greatful. Thank you so much for all your help and support. We love you guys! Nora Guthrie and everyone at the Woody Guthrie Archives

HungryHippo
awesome news. just goes to show you how powerful music (still) is. its one of only a few things that can stand-up against time. Woody Guthrie would, no doubt, be proud.
