Wilco - 6/23/09 - Los Angeles

I also got in line at about 5:45 and was right in front of the phone store. In order to get a wristband, you enter the venue and walk straight into the pit. Don't look at the merch, etc. One thing I can't stand is people who are out of the line for like an hour and then just walk up by their friends and act like the other people who were standing behind them do no matter. This really got to me that night. I can understand running to the CVS to get a drink or over to the hot dog lady, but wandering around, come on!

I don't like people like that either. Some acts or venues make it like this. But in all fairness it is a show...

things I've done to "get" to a show... like drivin' at 75mph for 5 straught hours to make it to the oceanside before showtime...

being so thrilled to be there before it started, viewable side, oceanside, for the show of a lifetime, wondering what "they will play"...

or....

my first drivin n' cryin show where i waited in line like everybody else but went to the bar not knowing i should go to the stage, i was use to going to the stage loading crap, then get a drink... i hand't realized being a "fan" part of it all. my first dnc show i did go "up front" but i did wait in line. i say this becasue a mean guy pushed me, but i was just looking, i was going back to the bar with my ride...

or....

i have left a front roll place to "get away" from what pushes up "front."... but Wilco will love you "baby"............................................ :wub

Wow!

So I'm labeling this show on my iTunes..(thanks to the tapers on this tour :cheers ) and I thought I missed You Are My Face.

Well, shiver me timbers...it wasn't actually played. This must be the first show in a long time where it wasn't played.

PS Seriously, I was like WTF. What happened to YAMF? Nice to see some tunes get a break to make room for stuff like Nothing'severgonnastandinmyway(again) and A Magazine Called Sunset.

Edit: And I just noticed Handshake Drugs was also NOT played. I need to stop looking at these West Coast setlists when I wake up. I don't remember them as well. Well, this show must have been a nice complement to night's 1 & 3.

I too enjoyed Saturday night in Pomona more, without any fault to the band. Saturday I was upstairs with my girlfriend, enjoying uninterrupted sight lines, great sound, a comfortable seat, and a nice air conditioning vent keeping me cool. I could really focus on the music, and it was a transcendant night. Tuesday, I went with a group of friends who were more concerned with hanging out downstairs by the bar to slam as many drinks as possible before the show than with getting a good spot in the crowd. The result was that we were towards the back of the crowd trying to find sightlines and getting annoyed with the hipster doofusses and some giant ass in a fedora who thought he was in a mosh pit. Nothing against my friends, you've gotta do what you've gotta do to enjoy a show, and the night was still a blast.

Best part of Saturday's show was during Impossible Germany, when Jeff had guitar trouble and Nels had to cover for him with an extended improvised solo. Breathtaking. And If I hear anyone say that Glenn is not the best drummer working today, I will fight them. I will punch them in the heart so hard future civilizations will incorporate it into their armageddon myths.
