Sparklehorse: In The Fishtank

Recommended Posts

Hi chaps. Looking on Amazon there looks like another Sparklehorse record due next month. The album is called 'In The Fishtank' by Sparklehorse + Fennesz. Anyone know anything else about this one? There's nothing on the offical website. Sounds promising. Still loving the 'Dark Night of the Soul' record.

IN THE FISHTANK In The Fishtank is an ever ongoing project of Konkurrent, independent music distributor in the Netherlands. In this collection Konkurrent invites musicians to whom they feel strongly related to record. They are given two days studio time and freedom to do whatever they like musically.

The Fishtank offers a space for expression and experimentation, results may vary but are always surprising.

Ever since 'Endless Summer' we were attracted to the music ofChristian Fennesz. Where many laptop artists don’t reach further thanidle electronic rumble without engagement, Fennesz manages to createa world of unheard and rich new sounds.

Christian’s idea to collaborate with Mark Linkous of Sparklehorseexcited us immediately. The two artists had performed together acouple of times and both felt that there was further mileage in thecollaboration.

Just two days in December 2007 were enough to record over 40 minutesof the sublime Fennesz and Sparklehorse combination. Prepared odditiesand masses of inspiration make these recordings unique in theirstyle and in this series in particular. Songs and soundscapes of rarebeauty with stunning atmospherics, where abstract sounds and wellcraftedtraditional songstructure meet and where acoustic instrumentsand electronics create outstanding ambience.

I found a download link to this on a blog the other day. I love all the Sparklehorse albums, but frankly this recording does absolutely nothing for me. Too much atmospheric meandering....and does not create an atmosphere I can tolerate. It's mostly unlistenable noise to me. Too bad. I look forward to whatever Mark Linkous does next, but this one is totally not for me.
