anthony
Why is the best song on W(TA) not properly chorded out here in L&T? I googled the Usual Suspects and it seems it is not anywhere on the internets. So I thought I would get the discussion started. Here is my meager attempt at it. Couple of notes:1. I gave alternate Eb chord positions. 11th fret is fine for the Jazzmaster, but for a non-cutaway J-45 it can be a little tough (the 11th fret version is correct, although JT seems to jump around a little).2. I am not sure about the 2nd "I'm not going too far" F chord. 3. I am really not sure about the breaks (didnt bother to show). Help is appreciated.4. I primarily (read: 100%) play solo acoustic on my living room couch. This song translates poorly to that style. To compensate, I kinda just go double muted bass, double quick downstroke on all the Eb to give some depth. Also, to give it a little frenetic feeling, I like to leave the little e open. Like this: e|-------------------0---0---| b|------------------11--11---| g|------------------12--12---| d|------------------13--13---| a|----------x--x-------------| e|----------x--x-------------| This is definitely a work in progress, so feedback is welcome. Wilco - Bull Black Nova Standard Tuning / No Capo Intro: Eb (played erratilly), for example: e|-------------------------------------------------------| b|-11--11-----------11--11--11--------11-----11--11--11--| g|-12--12-----------12--12--12--------12-----12--12--12--| d|-13--13-----------13--13--13--------13-----13--13--13--| a|----------x--x-----------------x--------x--------------| e|---------11-11----------------11-------11--------------| Eb It’s in my hair It’s on my clothes Eb It’s in the river over the road Ebsus4 Eb It’s shining down, my angry star Ebsus4 Eb Hanging on the hood of my car F# I’m not going far F I’m not going far C(viii) F# A Ab e|-----------------------------| b|--8--8--8--8----2----5----4--| g|--9--9--9--9----3----6----5--| d|-10-10-10-10----4----7----6--| a|-----------------------------| e|-----------------------------| Eb It’s coming down They’re coming up the shoulders Eb What have they found? heffer
i think the tonality of the song is more based in C minor, not Eb major. The intro is mostly just c notes played in octaves, and then alternates between playing a Bb and an Eb over the C, like this: intro-----13------10--------- verse -----11------10--------- then -11----------10--------- it moves between those two, its pretty obvious when it changes. not sure about the arpeggio chords behind them though. the "this cant be undone" bit is surely G - F instead of F# - F and the riff after it goes ----------------------5-5-5-3-7-5-----------3-3-3-1-5-3-----------
chisoxjtrain
Looking at what Tweedy is doing I am certain that it is in an alternate tuning.
Gobias Industries
Tweedy is in some open C tuning. But generally, most of the song is Cm7 - C7 and then to Gm - F, listen along for it, mostly. Then this little riff: ------ --- ------ --- ------ --- ------ --- -7-5-8 -7~ -8-6-10-8~ Bridge is something like this: Dm-Em-Dm-C x2 Mostly off the top of my head. anthony
I thought it was a open tuning at first listen, but I'm not convinced. Look at . At 37 seconds in, he plays the Eb at (what I'll call) first position (3x0323) then to Eb at 11th at 55 seconds. Also interesting in this evidence at the second "not going far", he plays the wrong chord (at first) at 29 seconds (wrong chord at 6th fret) then quickly adjusts to the 5th fret. The barre chord fingering does indicate perhaps drop D (?). Other evidence What do you guys think?

I was fooling around with it last night with this fingering position: 0(12)(11)0(12)0, based off some video from a European festival. That position is close to what he is doing. First time post here, great forum dedicated to a great band, been to see them twice in Dublin, Ireland so far, hopefully they come back soon. Anyway, I agree, this song is definitely in C so he must be playing an open chord of some description. I figured out the chord in standard tuning but you need fingers about a foot long to play it for any reasonable amount of time... 1st ChordB - 13th FretG - 8th FretD - 10th Fret 2nd ChordB - 13th FretG - 9th FretD - 10th Fret Perhaps this might work if the high E is tuned to a C - then you could play the chord and have the shrill high note to...
