caliber66
Curling = ice shuffleboard. Horrible event. Why isn't darts in the olympics? Or billiards? Or bowling? All olympic events should have at least a slight possibility of bodily injury.Any activity that involves ice and 40 pound chunks of granite includes a possibility of bodily injury. cryptique
I do think they could spice curling up a bit by allowing checking.
caliber66
That would be pretty hardcore.
jff
Who's to say what should and shouldn't be in the Olympics? I 'm only stating my opinion, not passing some sort of mandate. Any activity that involves ice and 40 pound chunks of granite includes a possibility of bodily injury. Fair enough. Someone please post a youtube link to someone getting hurt during a curling match. caliber66
You didn't stipulate that there had to be video available online of people getting hurt at curling matches. You just said the possibility had to exist. It does.

Guest Runaway Jim
The hockey game was great. It was just so damn intense. Ryan Miller had 42 fucking saves. And curling rocks. If you can't appreciate it, don't watch it.

You just said the possibility had to exist. It does. I'm stipulating it now. If you can provide the video, I will declare curling my favorite olympic sport, and I will donate $100 in your name to a charity that sends underpriviledged kids to curling camp. caliber66
Dude, I don't really care about curling. It's entertaining to watch for an hour or two and there are plenty of "sports" that are at least as deserving of being booted from the Olympics. It doesn't bother me that you don't like it. But I did find this to be somewhat painful to watch: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VZTg7QKHl98
Guest Speed Racer
I'm stipulating it now. That's the burden of proof these days? Did you ever skin your knee when you were a kid? I won't believe you until I see a video of it happening.
Guest Speed Racer
It's not video, but surely you can pass the time by reading a bit about the physiology of curling, and injuries participants can incur.
jff
That's the burden of proof these days? Did you ever skin your knee when you were a kid? I won't believe you until I see a video of it happening. I'm not interested in proof. I'm sure someone has sustained a real injury at some point. It IS ice, rocks and sticks, after all. I just want to see video of it. Musculoskeletal repetitive stress injuries don't count. Nor do photos of blisters that are less severe than I get from 15 minutes of raking leaves. My charitible offer is genuine, and is valid until the end of the closing ceremonies.

The photo cryptique posted is of a curling iron injury, I'm sure.

Assuming he really did break his hip... Curling is my favorite olympic event. Now, we need to find a charity that sends underpriviledged kids to curling camp.

I actually did a bit of a search after you made your pledge to try to find such a charity, but didn't find anything. I think you get a pass on part two.

It only occurred to me after the offer was made that the offer contained a pretty slimy escape clause. I'm still good for it, though, if a charity can be indentified. Winston Legthigh
It means that I'm quoting your desire to make good on a slimy escape clause, unless my inference was incorrect, and you're eager to weasel out of a promised charitable contribution. You could make a contribution to a curling association: https://secure3.convio.net/usoc/site/Donation2?df_id=1682&1682.donation=form1

The offer I made still stands, and I'm still good for. If you know of a charity that sends underpriviledged kids to curling camp, name it and I'll send them $100 in your name. That was, and is, the offer.
