kidsmoke
You know you have stories. I don't know what we did before this stuff was invented, but I know what we've been doing ever since, and that is sticking stuff together that we didn't intend to stick together. Body parts, for instance. You do get better at using superglue with experience. But nothing quite beats the feeling, does it, when you realize, "Great! I've repaired the object beautifully, except that I am now attached to it." Share your superglue stories! I once glued the side of my tongue to my teeth. I was holding the tube in my teeth while handling the item I was trying to apply glue to, and didn't realize that the glue tube had cracked and was oozing. I was scratching the stuff off my teeth for a few days afterwards. Nasty.
Mr. Kinsley
The other day I took the kids to swim lessons and there is a driveway that goes right next to a building leading to a small parking lot in the back. When I got to the end of the driveway I realized that the lot was full and decided to back down the driveway. Except that there's a kitchen window that sticks out right by the driver's side and I ripped my side rear view mirror clear off. When I got home I pulled out the Gorilla Glue (super glue for big stuff) and my 5 year-old daughter says to my wife, "Mommy, can he REALLY fix it, or does he just THINK he can?"I fixed it. kidsmoke
Excellent save! Why would your 5-yr-old doubt your gluing powers? (Has she seen you attach yourself to stuff in the past?)
Queen Amaranthine
No superglue stories here, but I have some duct tape ones, if I may? When my daughter was still in her high chair for meals, one day after I lifted her out of it, our little terrier dog sniffed some food she'd spilled onto the padded seat and he tore at the seat in a frenzy to get a quick snack. His sharp little teeth and claws that were in need of a trim shredded that padding! My daughter was on the verge of being old enough to be out of a high chair soon, so I didn't want to have the expensive of replacing her high chair. Yet no way could she sit in it as it was. Duct tape to the rescue! It patched up the padded seat nicely and held up the last few weeks of the high chair's career. The other day, the chair back detached from of one of the little chairs of my kids' art table. My little girl was pretty upset. The chair back screws were intact, so that wasn't the problem, I couldn't just screw it back together. Again, duct tape saved the day! Granted, my duct tape "art" wasn't aesthetic, but it was practical and efficient.
Sweet Papa Crimbo
About six years ago, while my wife was out of town on a business trip, I was going to cook some frozen hamburger patties for my son. First lesson: never use a sharp knife to separate hamburger patties. As I held my pinkie finger in place and ran cold water over the gaping wound (and struggling not to pass out), I was trying to decide whether I should try to make it to the emergency room ... it was a really nasty gash. But, as my son was getting really panicked, I decided to try and 'dad it out'. I grabbed a tube of neosporin and crazy glue from the cabinet. I squeezed a nice bit of the neosporin into the wound and used the crazy glue to seal it. (Remembering that crazy glue had originally been developed for medical use...actually, it was widely used in Viet Nam). 1000 miligrams of ibuprophin and a bandage to cover the wound and all was well. Have a pretty nice scar on my left pinkie, but I didn't even lose any feeling in it.,
kidsmoke
Good duct-tape restoration work, Amaranthine! You must've been a man in a previous life...repairing stuff with duct tape seems to be encoded into all male DNA. It's not pretty, but it sure does work in a pinch. A dear friend who is far craftier than I once made me a cool duct tape purse (red & black duct tape) and a beautifully detailed "kidsmoke" wallet, using multiple colors of duct tape. It's a thing of beauty! About six years ago, while my wife was out of town on a business trip, I was going to cook some frozen hamburger patties for my son. Reminded me of my college student days when I once sliced the hell out of the inside of my thumb. I was washing a piece of pyrex labware and hadn't seen that it had a crack. As I washed around the inside curve of the bowl, a piece broke off and my thumb slid right into the break. I had to have a bunch of stitches and it was almost a full year before the nerve (which I'd come very close to, but not cut) quit that nasty buzzing sensation. Luckily, it healed completely, eventually. Next time I'll remember to keep superglue around!

It's a thing of beauty! Awesome duct tape accessories! I hear of high school girls making prom dresses out of it. I sometimes wonder about that previous life myself! :-p My present-life girly side was delighted by Hello Kitty duct tape I saw in Target today.
