pathfire
Pretty excited for his return to more pop-oriented songwriting...this part of the interview stood out for me STEREOGUM: Who were the people that played on the record with you?RUFUS: Uh, well the Dap-Kings, a lot of those members were the backup band, and then Sean Lennon plays on a track and also Nels from Wilco…. and … who else, Martha sings on it… um, oh, Thomas Bartlett who’s a fantastic pianist and keyboard player. We didn’t want to sort of pile on the personalities, y’know? We wanted it to have some sort of streamlined quality. So we also tried to keep it simple as well. http://stereogum.com/897482/progress-report-rufus-wainwright/franchises/progress-report/
Magnetized
Exciting news, indeed. I love Rufus, and this one sounds great. With some of his recent work, like the opera, I admired more than enjoyed it. It must be inspiring for accomplished musicians with such different styles as Rufus and Nels to collaborate. SarahC
That's awesome. Does anyone know where you can hear his opera? Did he release recordings of it?
KevinG
Excited for sure, though his recent works have kinda put me off, it just seems like he is trying too hard.

Did he release recordings of it?It's been around since 2009, I think, but only in Europe. Looks like the Brooklyn Academy of Music is doing a production in February. http://www.rufuswainwright.com/PrimaDonna/
