Wilco — 3/5/12, Paris, France (Le Grand Rex)

Recommended Posts

As I remember, there was always a great following in France for the Inmates, who were kind of legendary as bearers of the garage and pub rock flames when it wasn't fashionable anymore (nor yet). Unfortunately (for me), I was a little young first, then much too naive to know anything about those clubs until more recently. Now, I vividly remember the reissue of the Beatles album like 10 years ago, it got fantastic press, and it was very exciting. The New Morning is great, but waaaayyy too small for Wilco these days. At the same time, I love when the bands (wilco especially) play very close to each other, all packed with their gear in a tiny place. But you know, you put your finger on the main problem of Wilco and France : they never played outside Paris. When they do come, they play one date in Paris before taking off to go play 5 or 10 gigs in the UK. They never worked this country properly, tried to break this country as they did for Spain or Belgium or whatever. Never been to the cities you're mentioning. By the way, you were on New Rose, right ? Maybe you remember my good friend Louis Thevenon ?

Patrick (Mathe) was who we worked with mostly (I think!)... I vaguely remember Louis... (sorry Louis).

The french seemed to love us, we loved the french, so it was all good. Some of my best memories are of touring France. That's probably why I get a little defensive (for them) when people criticise them. It happens so often, is really dumb, and based on nothing but jealousy as far as I can tell!

He he he... pretty angry aren't you?

I'm a parisian too. And I think you're spitting too hard on your own people just to promote yourself as THE hardcore fan.

Everyone else in the room was a douchebag, is that what you're saying?

If not, pay attention to what you write cause that's the message you send.

Anyway, the basic thing you say, i can understand : being told to sit down at a show when all you want is dance and enjoy the music... that's lame.

I would have hated it :))

There were certainly assholes in the audience. There always are.

But i'm sure there were also as many real fans as you. Dying to get up front.

But the venue and its security team was the first problem.

The security guards were soooo dumb.

I had seen Wilco in Lisbon in 2009.

Seated venue as well.

We stayed seated the first half, but ended up the other half standing just in front of the stage. Everybody.

A little child got to strum Jeff's strings in the risen arms of his parents :)

That was really a nice spirit.

No way this could have happened at the Grand Rex.

Me and my friend didn't sit, we went to the stage but had to stay on the side the whole show.

But that was ok, you could see very well, very close, and dance as much as you wanted if you felt like it :)

You should have lifted your lazy ass and done it too ! :)

That's still not as good as a show with no seats at all, but still, it's a little better and allows you to get away from people that piss you off in the audience :)

Oh, and I had requested New Madrid and they didn't play it.

The majority had certainly not requested anything, but i'm sure quite a lot of people had.

You don't know, so why say such things ?

But i agree that France isn't a big rock country.

Culturally, it's just not as important as it is in england or quite a lot of other european countries. It's a shame, and I wish it was otherwise.

But gather 1000 people to enjoy that kind of event, that must be possible, even in Paris :)

Anyway, great Theologians, Handshake Drugs, Via Chicago and "accoustic" Sipders !

I'm a bit fed up with Heavy Metal Drummer though...

thanks for stopping by guys !!!
