Analogman
He probably means he is going to make a crappy album and have Greg, Michael, and Neal play on it. I wish he would start releasing live shows from 1968-1973. The line-up of Carlos, Greg, David, Michael Shrieve, Michael Carabello, and Chepito are my favorite band in a lot of ways. mountain bed
I would agree with Aman here. That period from the first LP through Borboletta is some of the best stuff going, Stateside. I've seen Carlos countless times from 1979 through about 2006 or so. He's never disappointed me live. Perhaps my favorite was the Santana/Beck double bill in '95. Garcia had just died about a week before. Carlos opened, mentioned Jerry's passing, and just played a smoldering set of music. We danced our asses off with tears in our eyes. The Jeff came out when the sun went down and played his unique brand of fusion. SO cool and almost detached - exactly the opposite of what had came before. Two of the VERY best guitarists alive, in one night. I've been to Deer Creek well over 100 times and this was easily one of the 10 best shows I've even seen there. Analogman
I've been playing the first album for over 30 years now. When I was young, it was all about Carlos, but now it's about the drums. The trio of Michael/Michael/Chepito made great music. Although really - it's was all of them together. Caravanserai is where I stop - pretty much.
LouieB
I saw one of the bands back in the early 70s in London. I just remember the sound being terrible at the Hammermith or wherever I was. LouieB
NoJ
Saw Carlos at Poplar Creek with Phish opening. Saw him at the World as well in a really big show featuring him, Los Lobos and Lou Reed.
