bböp
And so ends another Wilco tour. It's been a fun few weeks, crossing many states (and three time zones), just to stand here now. Sorry, had to. No major surprises on the final night, other than Julian Lage turning up for a little guest guitar work, but I think a pretty good time was had by all. There were many, many VCers and Wilco regulars in attendance, which makes sense since this initially looked to be the final Wilco show for some time. But I'm sure there will be chiming in before too long... Until then, here was the complete setlist as played (didn't see a printed setlist, so can't say if there were any changes/omissions): You Are My FaceCry All DayI Am Trying To Break Your Heart>Art Of AlmostPickled GingerAt Least That's What You SaidIf I Ever Was A ChildMisunderstood (hootenanny arrangement — Nels on lap steel, Pat on banjitar, John on 12-string acoustic)Someone To LoseHandshake Drugs>Side With The SeedsVia ChicagoBull Black Nova (acoustic/electric hybrid arrangement)ReservationsImpossible GermanyForget The Flowers (with Julian Lage on electric guitar)California Stars (with Margaret Glaspy and Julian Lage on electric guitar)Box Full Of LettersI'm Always In LoveHeavy Metal Drummer>I'm The Man Who Loves YouHummingbird--------------------------Random Name GeneratorJesus, etc.Hate It HereMonday>Outtasite (Outta Mind)---------------------------The Waiting [Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers]The Late Greats
LittleDrummerBoy
I love that they are bringing back some songs from Sky Blue Sky, which is my personal favorite album
suites
Overall a great show IMO. A few thoughts Anytime you get ILTWYS, Handshake, IG, and Reservations in 1 show that is a great thing. Cal Stars was amped up and best version I heard live. Nels seemed kind of chill (compared to other times I have seen recently) but his playing is amazing. Pat is really great and can do it all. Never noticed that Glenn holds stick in left hand with tip not hitting skins (kind of backwards). Not sure if this is normal for drummers. Really appreciative crowd and 95% stood the entire time, which I always like. Only couple in best seats in house (1st row center, center) sat the entire time. Was surprised Jeff did not call them out. They were paying attention so maybe that is why he did not. Jeff had the braids. Was feeling Hoodoo at the end but not to be....Roadie looked the part, so I was hoping. A great career defining set with songs from all periods......a real professional band. Nice meeting and hanging with bbop before the show. Just happy to be able see the band before they break from the road for a while.
LittleDrummerBoy
Never noticed that Glenn holds stick in left hand with tip not hitting skins (kind of backwards). Not sure if this is normal for drummers. To my knowledge, Glenn does this to get a duller thud on his snare drum. For example, in "Laminated Cat", and "I Am Trying to Break Your Heart", he hits the drum with the back of his stick for a different sound.
SarahC
Thomas Wolfe is a special venue for me personally cos it was the place my first Wilco show was in 2005. Our seats were 4 over from where they were the first time. Made even better by the fluke of friends being on either side of us. One gripe is the floor up front is sloped backwards, so it was really hard to see at times. I hope the guy that vaped so hard next to us is okay, dude was out cold in the floor and seat mates had to flag security half way through the show. Legit a scary moment cos the guy was out cold. I thought the show was great, and I danced too hard- my back still hurts.
