  1. I work in Wall Street and I'm here to tell you that some of these guys do not have the intellect and best interest of their customers in mind. compliance doesn't necessarily belong in their vocabulary. I can think of maybe a handful of people that I work with, not even that, that I would trust my money with. it's really quite shameless. however, there are some that have scruples and know what they are doing. money is the bottom line.

  2. You may be right. But are you willing to bet the planet on that?

Personally, I'm not. The mere chance that we're a significant contributor to climate change, and that by changing our behavior we might be able to slow its progress or stop it in its tracks, is sufficient reason to start trying.

If it turns out that humans have nothing to do with it, well, at least we would have developed cleaner and more sustainable means of living our lives. But the consequences of going all in on the idea that we don't contribute to climate change, and using that assumption to justify doing nothing about it -- and then losing that bet -- would be a catastrophe for every living creature on the planet.

    this is so true!

  3. Not to call out for the sake of calling out, but your memory is probably a little skewed if you think you watched it live:

"Few people actually saw what happened live on television. The flight occurred during the early years of cable news, and although CNN was indeed carrying the launch when the shuttle was destroyed, all major broadcast stations had cut away — only to quickly return with taped relays. With Christa McAuliffe set to be the first teacher in space, NASA had arranged a satellite broadcast of the full mission into television sets in many schools, but the general public did not have access to this unless they were one of the then-few people with satellite dishes. What most people recall as a "live broadcast" was actually the taped replay broadcast soon after the event."

7 myths about the Challenger shuttle disaster

I was 12 and remember mostly the hopeful hours following the disaster when it was reported that maybe, just maybe, an escape hatch had been launched and the 7 astronauts were safe and alive awaiting rescue floating on the ocean.

my everything is skewed these days :hmm

  4. why can't it be a combination of the two? this mentally ill man could have been influenced by rhetoric that he heard on the news, etc, and thus he decided to carry out these acts.

also, has there been any further news on this 50 year old male that they have been looking for? who is he and what was his influence?

whether the guy was influenced by the media or not, I believe that this event should open the eyes of those in the public eye and the rhetoric they use in politics. freedom of speech does not come without consequences and there are plenty of impressionable people out there, mentally ill or not.

  5. In Los Estados Unidos, it's not so much about education being so expensive that most people can't get one. It's about how much debt a college grad is saddled with once they get their sheepskin and how that affects their future choices in life.

yeah, like $60,000. that will put a damper on your future.
