  1. I'm holding out hope for another Chicago residency set, which Jeff said they would do this year too, in that tour gap from late June to mid-August.

    :pray

Has he actually said that? (Aside from his comments on night 5 at last year's residency) .. Last I'd heard they were talking 2010 instead? I'd probably skip west coast shows (unless they were in my backyard) if I knew there was another residency this year...

  2. Be safe and call them -- I had Neil Young tickets not arrive within 2 days of the show (Saturday/Sunday shows I think, and there's no mail on Saturday here). Called and had them leave me replacements at will call (and even that was a fiasco). Had I not called by the Thursday night supposedly I would've been out of luck.

The original tickets were waiting for me in my mailbox when I got home on Monday, delivered that day. :rolleyes

  3. So you saw them in 2008 after all?

They played with Glenn the first night, but I greatly preferred the 2nd night, mostly because of how much fun they seemed to be having (Jeff seemed too sick the first night). How often do you see Nels strap on an acoustic guitar at a Wilco show, or see them play with 3 different drummers over the course of an hour?

But yes...I'm sure you'll get your Toronto 2009 show.

  4. I'm just starting to dive into the vinyl craze myself and couldn't be more happier about the news of the re-releases! I only have YHF (with AGIB on the way)...but experiencing YHF on vinyl got me hooked instantly!

That being said, I cannot believe how unfortunate it is that the Ashes of American Flags / Heavy Metal Drummer transition is completely lost due to having to switch records. What a buzzkill!

But you get to hear the proper ending of 'Pot Kettle Black', so it evens out. :thumbup

  5. I think it was "Henry & The H-Bombs". You can tell Jeff's not being entirely truthful in his response.

Also, when they're talking about "Heart", it's not "Give Back The Key.." but "I Am Trying To Break...". The last word of the title carries down to the next line so it just says 'Heart'. Always kinda bugged me.

  6. howdy folks!

HILARIOUS show, they really didn't seem like they were sure if they could pull it off at the beginning (jeff broke a string during 'war on war'!) but as the set progressed it became clear that it was going to be a fun night. it was kinda like a mini-wilco show, slow start and then that build into the eventual explosive rock finale (and then 'released').

so cool to see nels play acoustic! (i agree with somebody else about the thursday night show, nels was WAY too quiet and jeff was pumped up superloud---thought they played too slow and jeff being sick explains it.. everyone was mystified by 'via chicago' though, huge highlight)

i got a set list, i think this is how it broke down:

    FIVE PIECE ALL ACOUSTIC:

    1. Hesitating Beauty

    2. War on War

    3. Jesus, etc

    WITH DONNY:

    4. Passenger Side

    5. Hummingbird

    6. California Stars

    7. Handshake Drugs

    WITH STEVE..?:

    8. Impossible Germany (jeff said he'd picked a particularly tough one for his first song)

    9. Red-Eyed and Blue

    10. I Got You

    11. Outtasite

WITH .. uh.. MIKE? I DONT THINK IT WAS BRIAN...:

    12. Heavy Metal Drummer (not on the set list, jeff said he was only supposed to do one but asked if he'd wanna try HMD..funny w/out the triggers)

    13. I Shall Be Released (jeff fucking nailed this and people LOVED it)

the band, particularly jeff and john, really helped guide the drummers thru some of the more difficult passages, but WOW did they ever do a phenomenal job, all things considered. jeff was clearly having so much fun, coming up with all his dumb canadian deaths, and they totally pulled it off. quite a unique experience! i really hope someone taped it :)

  7. is this the first time in years that they didnt play Shot in the arm?

    residency night 5, at least.

wow! seeing those pix somewhat realized my excitement for the forthcoming toronto shows, the fact that wilco will actually be playing..and then so will neil! i've been somewhat dreading the travel, but i'm hoping it will all be worth it. i've already seen neil 3 times on this tour, so i'm really hoping that he'll find inspiration to change his set a bit, but maybe i should look at it as wilco shows with bonus neil, ha ha. was really hoping for some brand new wilco songs in these sets, though, so we'll see what happens!

wow, i hope a lot. fuck.

  8. Uh yeah, lets not feel too bad for Wilco, opening for NEIL FUCKING YOUNG and everything...

Any treatment will be better than the treatment Sonic Youth got on the same bill in '91...

And yeah, where are the new songs? :( Didn't they do one a night on the R.E.M. '03 tour?

  9. Yeah, I'm frustrated by the lack of 'audio' release, but the fact that he finally seems excited about the technology behind the package he's aiming to release is (I think?) a good sign... of course, I subscribe to the same "believe it when I see it" policy as most Neil fans who have been waiting for the Archives for 10, 15, 20 years...

He IS making it available on 'normal' DVD as well as Blu-Ray, though, so at least he compromised there. And I'm sure it will all end up online in mp3 form and I'm also sure he won't give a shit.
