  3. Did anyone see some evidence on a new Superchunk and a new Yo la Tengo heading our way? Those would both make me very happy- long-time favorite artists who have been knocking it out of the park in their golden years. Darn-tootin!

Yep, new Superchunk album hits record store shelves on February 16th.  As for Yo La Tengo, Matador Records said that 2018 would be a big year for YLT!  I'm only speculating that this means that a new album is heading our way.  They're due for a new one.

  4. Sloan and Nada Surf?? Didn't know they had stuff in the pipe..sweet

I am excited for the Foal's new one! I am trying to think who else that I know has something confirmed??

Sloan just wrapped up or are in the process of wrapping up the recording of album #12.  As for Nada Surf, I thought I read or heard somewhere that they were working on new stuff earlier this year. I could be wrong.

  5. Albums that you are looking forward to in 2018 (knowingly or bands/artists who are due for a new one and are hoping to see new a new album/music from):

    The Wrens

    The Breeders (Mar. 2)

    Superchunk (Feb. 16)

    Yo La Tengo (Mar. 16)

    Sloan (Apr. 6)

Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks (May 18)

    Salad Boys (Jan. 19)

    Guided By Voices (Mar. 23)

    Thee Oh Sees

    The Men (Mar. 2)

    Parquet Courts (May 18)

    Hot Snakes (Mar. 16)

    Nada Surf

    Bob Mould

    Telekinisis

    Dinosaur Jr. and/or Sebadoh

    Hayden

    Mike Kroll

    Redd Kross

    Ex Hex

And You Will Know Us By the Trail of Dead

    Damien Jurado (May 4)

    Parquet Courts (May 18)

Built to Spill (I have a feeling they'll put a new record this year or next and it'll be on Sub Pop)

  6. A great label. They and Soundway are my 2 favorite current labels. Both have released a ton of great stuff.

I recommend Ultimate Painting's 2 records, too. Great stuff.

checking out the watch and listen section of the Trouble in Mind website...some great stuff for sure! I'm liking Salad Boys too

  7. That's a hell of a list. Hayden is underappreciated. I'm always hungry for more YLT.

I wonder if Superchunk is going to continue their streak of no nonsense punk records or if they'll sprawl out a little more like their mid-period stuff.

File superchunk under wishful thinking...but you never know. And if they do release another album hopefully it is of the no nonsense type.

  8. Some of these have confirmed 2017 release dates, some are expected and some are wishful thinking:

    Grandaddy

    Surfer Blood

Fancey (Todd Fancey from New Pornorgraphers)

    The Sadies

    The Feelies

    Sleaford Mods

    Spoon

    Spriral Stairs

    Mudhoney

    Neutral Milk Hotel

  9. Starting a 2017 topic, as Wilco just announced a string of U.S. dates North American (Toronto is there too) for March, including a 4 night run at the Beacon Theater, March 18-9 and 21-22. All dates up on Wilcoworld, pre-sale starts Wednesday..

  10. 2 years ago they did a stripped down set on the Friday night.  This time around, why not do a set of fully plugged in rock songs.  And map out the set list to minimize the amount of instrument changes.

  11. I'm hoping that Grandaddy will be there. They've been playing festivals lately and have a couple new songs so even though I think it's unlikely I can still hope.

Grandaddy's new album is finished. It would be great if they were on the bill along with Sea and Cake, Lambchop, Teenage Fanclub, Andy Shauf, Sleater-Kinney, The Wedding Present, Thee Oh Sees, Hamilton Leithauser/Rostam, Le Tigre, Courtney Barnett, Whitney, Steve Gunn, Cloud Nothings, Eleanor Friedberger, Ex-Hex, Wolf Parade, Hiss Golden Messanger, the Men, Richard Buckner, the Mountain Goats, Bob Mould, M. Ward and British Sea Power

  12. I have a 3 day pass to Bumbershoot but I am thinking of trying to unload it ($165 US if you're interested).  The lineup is weak compared to other times that I've gone to the festival. One year I saw Bob Mould, the Breeders, Superchunk, Redd Kross and the Men all in one day! This year's lineup is geared more towards teenagers...or maybe I'm just getting old.

Anyway, when I visit Seattle I always check out (and would recommend you do to) Easy Street, EMP, La Carta de Oaxaca (Mexican restaurant in Ballard), Sonic Boom Records (up in Ballard near La Carta), Archie McPhee and The Beer Junction (near Easy Street in West Seattle).

Mariners are in the middle of a homestand the same weekend and I would recommend checking a game out if you're into baseball. The ballpark is fantastic. Friday and Saturday games are at night but they play in the afternoon on Sunday and Monday.

As for safety...the only time I've felt unsafe in Seattle was when I was wandering around the infamous intersection of Pine and 3rd alone at night trying to find a corner store.

  13. Shut out of both Seattle shows, presale link now directs to Ticketmaster (available Friday). Guess I'll try again on Friday.

    WORST presale experience so far.

according to the ticketmaster website, their presale starts at 10 am PST TOMORROW (Thursday 26th)

  14. which is why surprises like MoBurma, Polvo, Dino Jr, are so great. most bands should be able to reasonably pull off a live show after years of inactivity.

you would think so...but it's quite surprising that pavement are much better live now than they were when they broke up. I forgot Mission of Burma.
