for me, it works as long as they DON'T release any new material (since a lot of bands who tend to get back together after a long hiatus tend to put out really bad albums)...Therefore I would have to say:
pavement
thrush hermit!!! (best canadian band from the 1990s)
the pixies

It's hard to believe such a concoction was invented in Canada and not Wisconsin. I might just have to get to Montreal a little early. And bring some rolaids.
try to make it to La Banquise. Don't worry. They're open 24hrs so you can go after the show. Just type la banquise Montreal into google maps to find it. It's not far from downtown.

Weird thing...there is a long article about this in the Trib this morning. Apparently you can get this stuff in Chicago too...
LouieB
wouldn't be surprised. But watch out for the immitation poutines out there. ie. poutine with shredded cheese instead of cheese curds. For real poutine stick to the patateries of Quebec. Once you start heading west from Ottawa it starts to go down hill.
In Montreal check out La Banquise. In the Ottawa area you gotta go across the river to Hull (Quebec) and either hit up Patate D'Oré or Pataterie Hulloise...or in Ottawa, Elgin Street Diner is ok and it's within walking distance from the NAC (where wilco is playing Monday).

Glad to see Jim's working on a new one... and with the Weakerthans, well that's a great bonus.
I saw Jim open for them ages ago, good show!
Jim Bryson is one of the most underrated artists in Canada. This should help him break into the "mainstream".

It's pretty huge, it's where the NAC Orchestra plays as with large ballet's etc. They do have concerts however, Yo-Yo Ma just played here, with a special guest...
I hope it's in Southam Hall (the main theatre). It holds somewhere between 2000 and 2500 people and the sounds is excellent. It reminds me of Massey Hall but newer. I believe the NAC was built in 1969. They don't have concerts here as much as I would like. I hear you have to book the room months in advance.

new Grand Archives album coming out Sept. 15

I read somewhere that it's an alternate/early version of Impossible Germany.

I didn't bother reading all of the replies so I apologize if this was already mentioned...wilco make their living from touring (which I'm assuming also includes merch sales). Jeff Tweedy even said so in a recent interview that I read or saw. I'm sure they would like it if they sold more records so they didn't have to tour so much but that's the way it is for a band like wilco....besides, they'll sell a lot more records then the average band so I'm sure they're not losing any sleep over lost record sales because of leaks and streaming...as for the comparison of eminem to wilco, I like to think of it this way: eminem is in it for the money and wilco are in for the love of music and art. I could be wrong but that's the feeling I get...and this is reflected in each one's music and lifestyle.

The only whiff of "hipster" I'm getting here is coming from you, because you're taking this so seriously.
IT'S A FUCKING ALBUM COVER.
Get a grip.
I agree with cryptique...besides, don't hipsters judge albums by the cover???
-
The Wilco album cover is sure different from Son Volt's old-school semi-country look for their new album.
My favorite Wilco album cover/album art has always been Being There, which is still my favorite Wilco album.
son volt takes their music way too seriously.

Is BT on two disks? Or four?
according to insound.com all three are 2xlp. and they come with bonus cd.
-
ok. thanks! hopefully I don't forget.
Vancouver is one of nicest large cities I've ever visited.

I know it's not wilco's fault or music today's fault...the dvd was late because of being held up at the border by customs. It's just that I was really hoping to get a copy of the Washington show. I would appreciate help. That would be great!
-
so, I guess those who pre-ordered the dvd through music today are screwed out of the 9:30 show if the dvd arrived after the April 28th deadline?
or is there still a way of downloading the show?
-
you can pre-order A.M., Being There and Summerteeth on 180 gram vinyl at insound.com now.
-
yeah, it was released in Canada yesterday. None of the record stores in Ottawa who took part in the record store day activities had early copies and I knew that they wouldn't. That's why I ordered it through wilcoworld a week or 2 before...thinking I would atleast get my copy before the official release date. I'm hoping that by starting this thread, that my copy will show up in the mail today (undertaker's rule of thumb).
on a side note. Has anyone heard any rumours about some Canadian dates? I was really expecting them to be part of bluesfest again this year in Ottawa (they're gonna be close). Now I'm just hoping they add a Montreal or Toronto show to their current tour or to a possible fall tour.
-
has anyone in Canada received their shipment of the DVD yet (from the wilcoworld pre-order)??? Just wondering.
-
I'll suggest 'mignulikz'
-
mignulikz should be the name of the new album

So, my dad just bought himself a shiny, new turntable and been throughly enjoying the vinyl re-releases of The Joshua Tree and the Traveling Wilbury's. He's not a massive Wilco fan but I think he likes them that he would enjoy and appreciate the 180-gram Sky Blue Sky - but I've never ordered from the Wilco Store before.
I wanted to find out if anyone up here in Toronto (and/or Canada) had ordered from there to see how much shipping was, if you got nailed for duty, how long it took etc. If anyone knows of a good source up here for getting vinyl, that'd be great to know too.
Thanks!
TJ
I would try Rotate This (Queen Street W.), Soundscapes (College Street), or Criminal Records (Queen Street W.). Something tells me that Rotate This would have it.

Glen Healey (from Hockey night in Canada) keeps mentioning this too (the whole "a bunch of extra games theory")...I don't buy it! they're pro athletes and are amongst the fittest people in pro sports. I think it's just because the other teams in the west are now better than they are. simple as that.
