  1. To answer a couple of questions that have been asked.....

If you want to buy your tickets at the Vic, you have to go to the box office and I am remembering right now that they only take cash.

Otherwise, you can use Ticketmaster, where there will be a service charge that I am trying to get a cap put on, but anyhoo you can reach them at 559-1212 or ticketmaster.com. I think the area code is 773-if not, then it's 312. (duh)

And I have never tried this, but it actually looks pretty great if you are travelling here on a tight budget:

Other than that....befriend your fellow vcer's and maybe someone will put you up for the night!

Thank you for this!! And especially for the show!

  2. Questions.... Questions.....

What phone number should be called to get tickets, call the Vic?

What would be the cheapest way to get tickets?

Does anyone know where someone who's wanting to come down from Madison, WI could stay (cheap)? I am not sure If I will be wanting to drive home 2.5 hours after.

    Thanks!

Mike and I are anxiously anticipating all the details.

Susan.....I wish I'd had the gusto to speak more to you and Jeff at Erin's Living Room Show.

I hope you all are enjoying the hummingbird mugs!

  4. As I was telling people last night, when Jeff was singing Who Were You Thinking Of, he was singing it to Sue -- who was sitting right in front me. So I was right in Jeff's sight line. If you know or heard the lyrics to the song, you can imagine how awkward it was.

    Hey you!

I was sitting right behind you! How did your photos turn out?

    Can we see???

    Hope you are well!

  5. Yeah, I got the call from Tony Marguerita last night:

    TM:"Jimmy, babe, how are you"?

    JL:"It's Johnny".

TM:"So Jim, first off, Tweedy's face is copywrited. Letters to Santa is copywrited.

And it's in Jeff's contract to never have to appear with a Canine American, in a poster or otherwise".

    JL:"I didn't know".

TM:"I could fill a boxcar with what you didn't know".

    JL:"What does that mean"?

TM:"It's showbiz stuff. But I'll get to the point".

    JL:"Okay..."

TM:"We need a good roadie. Someone to carry around Sansone's toupees. A good Wig Man, if you will".

    JL:"A Wig Man"?

TM:"Did I stutter? Yes, a Wig Man. You think Pat just rolls out of bed looking that good"?

    JL:"I guess not..."

TM:"You bet your sweet bippie, you guess not"!

JL:"I was just hoping I could do some promotional artwork for Tweedy and/or the band, something along those lines".

TM:"Artwork? Son, we got hipsters working on posters all over the country 24/7. Besides, I heard your work runs toward the psychadelic".

JL:"I'd like to think that I wear more hats than that, artistically and musically..."

TM:"Don't mention hats! Pat hates hats"!

JL:"I don't think this is gonna work out..."

TM:"We'll see. Have your people call my people".

    JL:"I don't have any people".

TM:"It's like a whole nother world down there in Kentucky, huh"?

Seriously, I hope I hear something. I'm not gonna lie. That would be more than copasetic. I'm just a little worried because my email thing rejects incoming emails occasionally, including one not too long ago from someone in another city who wanted to buy an expensive painting. Luckily, he tracked down a gallery that had my phone number.

But I've rambled enough. We all have work to do.

Mike and I just read that together (yes, I'm getting him interested in the VC site....need a good name for him)...and we both laughed so hard I think I peed my pants! Loving the humor!

  6. Edie did all the hard work, I just copy-pasted.

But I am a pretty damn good copy-paster.

Dude, you're awesome....did you like the picture I posted of you, Leo and I???

I still don't know how to make the attachments larger...any advice?

oh well, im not complaining, just woulda been nice! :D

Agreed! I wish I could cut and paste myself into the group shot BobBob took!

I have to say...I am STILL (and so is MIKE!) reeling from this past weekend....I'm full of Jeff songs...my brain plays them while I sleep...and all I can think about is how much fun I had....!

ps. how do I attach the photos I have so they don't come out so tiny and then need to be clicked on to view them?

  9. WOW!

Talk about overwhelmed! It was an enormous pleasure to meet each and every one of you!!!!!

Thank you so much to everyone....to Erin's family....to Edie and Scott.....and especially to DONNA who invited Mike and I to the show....THANK YOU DONNA SO MUCH!

We enjoyed meeting all of you....and hope that we will stay connected and will meet up again soon...anyone want to come to Baltimore on March 17th to see the Autumn Defense? We will be there!

I need to write more and send more thank yous out....but need to put the kids to bed (i'm still exhausted from being up past 11pm on Sat.night!)

I really don't think I will remember all of your screen names...so please email me....or I will check the living room site again....

I have photos but am in the process of touching them up. I'm going to try to post them if I can figure that out....I usually use snapfish.

THANK YOU ERIN!!!! THANK YOU DONNA!

And a huge thank you to JEFF and SUSAN.....I wish I could have told Jeff how much his music means to me when I had the chance...instead I mumbled about my 16 yo babysitter who wanted his autograph....go figure!

So Jeff...if you read these posts: Your music means the world to me and my family. Thank you!

  10. You know what really stinks? The people selling WILCO tickets on EBAY and listing the seats as FLOOR...all the seats are FLOOR! It's a general admission show! They are making a huge amount of money selling tickets that SOMEHOW they purchased before the fans could....and then lying about the seats...that's what smells awfully fishy to me!

What's up with that? And what's up the 9:30 club having their OWN pre-sale before the FANS pre-sale?

Bitch, moan, bitch, moan.....CAN'T WILCO JUST PLAY AT THE VIRGIN FESTIVAL?

KEANE DROPPED OFF THE TICKET! THERE IS ROOM!

    http://www.virginfestival.com/

I also use firefox. Most of the people I know use firefox, actually, though I guess most of the world still doesn't.
  11. Perhaps Pete can help persuade WILCO to come and play at the Virgin Festival in Baltimore. The WHO are one of the main acts...and Keane just dropped off the ticket b/c the singer is in REHAB....seeing that the DC show just sold out in mere seconds...wouldn't it be nice to have WILCO play a larger venue with his buddy Pete? I'm all over it !!! :rock

    quote name='Hixter' date='Sep 14 2006, 10:20 AM' post='759909']

A few months ago, Pete Townshend's blog listed Wilco as one of his favorite bands. On tour with The Who once again, Mr. T had this to say in today's Ottawa Citizen:

Q: Are there any young guitarists out there today who

thrill you? Who do you listen to in the car?

A: I like a lot of new guitar players. It's hard to

listen to guitar players who are better than me and I

can hear them free at almost any decent music store.

In my car I listen to Yo-Yo Ma (especially with Edgar

Meyer), Wilco, Flaming Lips, Sufjan Stevens, Martha

Wainwright, Sean Lennon, Sigur Ros, Buddy Guy. I

listen to a lot of jazz and orchestral music too. The

usual classic stuff. For new jazz I go to BBC Radio 3

in the UK. For new orchestral writing the same

station. There are late night shows now that play the

    most incredibly innovative music.

    The entire interview is here.

  12. Wouldn't it be nice if WILCO would just play at the VIRGIN FESTIVAL in Baltimore?

The Flaming Lips will be there...and several other great bands...open space...GREAT place!

SEPT. 23rd, Saturday...tickets are still available...

    I PRAY I GET TIX'S TOMORROW!!!! What's up with the 9:30 Club having it's OWN pre-sale?

    Very worried....! :huh :unsure

i too got shut out right at 10am

and for all who thought this was bad - wait until tomorrow. tickets.com will f*** this up. they did the tickets sales for the flaming lips two shows at the webster in nyc a few months back. what a mess. i remember reading on the lips board about people getting charged 6 times and getting 0 tickets and other horrific stories. apparently the tickets.com servers do not fair well in heavy traffic. at least music today tells you that you are 'out of luck' instantly. if i remember right i waited for 10 minutes trying to log on, then got on and secured a couple tickets only to have their end crash - sending me back to the end of the line (and then getting no tickets). luckily another friend scored and hooked me up.

best of luck to all with tickets.com

  13. Thanks! It was great to hang out after the show and talk with the band. I too hope Jeff got the hummingbird pendant that I gave to Glenn....it was actually meant for Jeff's wife. I was hoping it might put him in a better mood...?

Your must be one super cool Dad....I have a five year old and am just waiting for the day when she's old enough to take with me to see WILCO...Hummingbird and I'm a Wheel are her favorites...my 3 year old just likes to say, "don't know nothing...." over and over when he hears Theologians.

Hope to see you at the next show! Canada?

Hello all, new to the board here but not the music! Was at this show and had a blast. Sorry some didn't fully enjoy the show but that's a general admis. show for you. I'll echo same sentiment someone else posted here- I'll take a general admis show anyday over a seated show, no matter what band I go see. I remember being in CA in mid to late 80's, seeing Dead shows that were all gen admis, moved to east coast and yuck! Those were some of the best I've ever seen, although you can't beat the energy of east coasters.

Anyways I took my 12yr old son with me to turn him on to some good music, he's familiar with some of the material as he has no choice- music gets played loud in our house. We were up near the bar on the right side of the stage and had an excellent view, so didn't deal with the floor at all. I'd just like to thank the great fans where we were, couldn't have been more pleasant even in somewhat crowded conditions. Also to the band and the people who waited after the show to meet the band. We met everyone except for Jeff and band was super cool. Nels was first out conversed briefly with my son- asking him if he plays any instruments, my son replied he has drums and a guitar but don't know which one to full take up- Nels' response was to "do both!". Complimented my son on his Hendrix hoodie as I brought up the Dead- said if they ever covered a dead tune in the future he want to do Black Peter, which was somewhat suprising to me. He did ask my son are sure you're 12- you seem too big and mature- my son is near 6ft at 12, he'll be 13 next month. Next out was John who was more than cordial- super nice guy-talked to everyone. He then came off the bus with a pizza and told a few, inlcuding my son, they can have Glenn's pizza. So then here comes Glenn- "you guys eatin my pizza?" Provided some good laughs as he talked and signed also. My son told him he was a mad man on the drums! Well I can ramble more but no need to. All in all couldn't have asked for a better evening- as meeting the band was my son's highlight. Once again a big thanks to the fans and the band for making a memorable evening. ps..you know it worked when your kid tells you next day- dad, I'm going with you again next time they're here and asking me if the show is up on my bit torrent thingy that i use- gotta love it. Oh and Hummingbird- we saw you after the show- was there when you gave Glenn the hummingbird you made to give to Jeff- hope he got it- good hanging with you. Thanks again everybody.

  14. Agreed....esp. about Jeff telling that guy he was a dick....he dealt with the jerk very well....sorry to also hear that there was a multitude of jerks in the audience...I too was up front and just ignored all of that and focused on the music and dancing....

VC'ers ought to always meet up front...I know I'll be there!!! :dancing

Well I'm pretty shocked at these negative reviews...but then again, we were front and center and were not crowded in like sardines the way it seems most others were. Everyone around us was great. The sound was fantastic up in front (thank you very much, Star Parking Pass). We even brought a Wilco virgin to the show and I was really concerned beforehand that he wouldn't like them, but he had a great time and said he was really impressed with how amazingly tight the band was. I was worried about Jeff being so pissed in the beginning but I thought he really turned it around. I really didn't get the impression he was letting it affect him for very long. I secretly loved that he told the guy "I'm sorry, but you're being a dick" in that fatherly way only Jeff could pull off. The band was making silly faces at each other through the whole show, and lots of eye contact with the crowd. I never felt like that one asshole made any difference in their attitudes. And I also didn't feel like Jeff was mad at the "Happy birthday Andrew" incident (it isn't like they were yelling that the whole night, only one time as far as I heard) or at the guitar tech either. I thought the set was great....a bit disjointed in the beginning, but overall a great rockin' set appropriate for the Roadhouse type venue. Seeing Monday with the horn section was great. I think that was the highlight of those guys' lives.

I know that being up front makes a HUGE difference for the overall feel of the show though, and although I felt like I was in a tiny club holding me and 50 others because of where we were, every time I turned around and looked at the sea of cramped people I was definitely happy I wasn't mixed in there. So, for me, it was a close second to the Poughkeepsie show. For others, I can see why they might not have been too happy. But, give me a place like that over an assigned seat theater any day. I'd rather brave the crowds than be stuck in a chair. It's a rock show, and they certainly did rock.

BTW, I'll be going through my pictures and posting in the next couple days.

  15. sounds like there were bad spots in the crowd, and really great spots in the crowd...we should work on a designated viachicago area for GA shows....complete with pizza, dancing, and kindness :P

I'm with you there....need some major revamping on the spotage....

  16. Agreed..... :dancing

There's morons at every show I go to these days. I just try to focus on the show and tune everything else out. I definitely wasn't expecting a bunch of saints at the Starland. If you get there early and get up front, you don't have to worry about the madness behind you. And if people just didn't drink anything (imagine that), you wouldn't have to go to the bathroom. Works for me.
  17. What happened to dancing to music at a rock concert? And not JUST a rock concert---an awesome one.

For New Jersey I thought the venue was fine...it was a ROADSIDE BAR...I just looked past it; I would have loved to have ordered a drink but the fear of losing my teeny tiny space to dance on was just not worth the effort.

Jamming out to Wilco and dancing like mad was worth more than that drunk guys bar tab multiplied by 1000.

(where do they come from?) I'm just glad Jeff kept on playing...

Baltimore has a new venue called SONAR....WILCO please come play there...it will be to your liking.

Note to JEFF: We waited outside to say hello...focus on the fans who follow you all around and who appreciate your talent. We're out there....and p.s. I hope Susie will like the Hummingbird (ask Glenn for it...)
