Well said, my friend.
The song that came on was nothingsevergonnastandinmyway (again). I know the current band kicks ass, but something about the wonderful little fills that come at the end of lines and between verses in a song like this (and the others on ST) are Jay's lasting influence on even this band (who has to try and reproduce those things). Sure, the band now has great musicians and a great live sound.
Meanwhile Wilco is now a big draw that travels the world to critical aclaim (and rarely even plays the midwest any more.) Jay's ongoing contribution can't be minimized by anyone. Both Mikael and Pat have become really fine keyboard players and Nels is of course an incredible guitarist. But Jay's sonic invention was amazing. His staying in the band wasn't to be, but everytime the songs are played from his era, Jay becomes part of the band again.

Jeff announced it during the Boston show webcast tonight. Check it out!
HOLY CRAP! It'll be the highlight of my summer!

I guess a tour of Japan was unlikely, but not impossible.
Well played!

A lot of Wilco also traces back to Big Star (via the Replacements or otherwise).
Every time I hear the end of "Until You Came Along" (Golden Smog) and the little guitar riff after "I was on my way home..." from "Sonny Feeling", I think of "In the Street" by Big Star for sure.
I also think of Badfinger when I hear "Hate it Here", but that's probably a Beatles hook or two that they borrowed first.
Regardless, all bands aforementioned are some of my faves, so no complaints here!
Monday and I'm the Man Who Loves You - The Rolling Stones
"Casino Queen" too!

Amazing shots!

he's got to know his limitations.
Well played!

Sounds cool! Gonna try to make this one.

So, how about that show, huh, guys?
I'd love to see any pictures that anyone might have. I know there were lots of cameras going off in my vicinity.
-
Johnny, the posters were killer! Great to see you again, and hope that some of those shot surface sooner or later.
-
I mean, that guy Paul has been to at least 10 concerts, right?
(with nothing but love for Paul!)
-
Hope it was a great one, concert buddy!

Sonny Feeling
Nothing'severgonnastandinmyway(again)
You Never Know
I'm Always In Love
OK...I would have had an asthma attack right then and there with this four-song run.

No problem, now that I officially logged my complaint. "Furr" is my favorite Blitzen Trapper song; I'll bet that was great live. Granted, I know about three Blitzen Trapper songs.
Your account of this show makes me miss Otto's. Is Vicar Street that small? Can't be, right?
Looked it up...here are the specs:
VENUE CAPACITY 1500 (150 SEATED AND 100 STANDING ON
BALCONY, 1250 STANDING)
OR 1000 (150 SEATED AND 100 STANDING ON
BALCONY, 750 SEATED)

I've been listening to Summerteeth a lot lately and was just thinking how much I'd like to hear "Nothingsever..." again.
That's seriously my favorite Wilco song.
I request it for pretty much every show I attend, including the first night of the upcoming Chicago shows.
It was great hearing Jeff do it solo recently at the Emanuel show, even after he has mentioned on many occasions how tough it is to play.

Happy Birthday Jeff! And Elvis Costello as well!
Strange but cool that my two favorite musicians share a birthday!
Happy birthday, Jeff. I wish you many more years of health, happiness, creativity, and rocking out.

Ringo's cool, but he wants you all to stop sending him any goddamn fan mail. If you don't, he's going to will some horrible evil Beatle karma on your asses. Peace and love.

This was a pretty guitar:
and apparently it's a pretty rare one - a 1930s Gibson Kel Kroydon. Anyone have $5,500 lying around?

Yeah, I was admiring that too!

any sign of a recording yet please? thanks, ba
Check back earlier in this thread. A very good audience recording is already up...

Really like the first album. This one seems to have had mixed reviews where I've looked but once the bank allows, I shall be indulging, always loved Jarvis!
Same. Like the first one a great deal. "Don't Let Him Waste Your Time" is a constant on my mixes.

I always knew Dingwalls was a small venue, but I just read online...capacity at Dingwalls is 487. Yikes.
(On an unrelated note: Is there supposed to be an apostrophe in Dingwalls?!? It's like Schubas...it messes up the English teacher in me! )

Ha! It's funny to see the looks on our faces when those random girls came up! Too funny!
Thanks for posting the pics, BCart!

Spin
in Just A Fan
I've been having a hell of a time finding the new Spin. My local Borders and Walmart both don't have it. Sweet mother...
Man, what a month to have my subscription run out!
I checked two different Borders, two different Jewel stores, Walgreens, and CVS in the days since VC people have said they have found theirs and had no luck. Either they no longer carry Spin (most cases) or had the issue with Prince out (Jewel).
FYI Chicagoans: Erin found it at the Book Cellar in Lincoln Square today here in Chicago. Go get it!

I loved him. I have to admit I didn't know anything about him before, but, after watching the Whiskey Bender doc you helped film on YouTube and listening to some of his stuff with the Chamber Strings, I"m a fan. You probably could have predicted that, though...his style of music is right up my alley.
