  1. I think this hasn't been posted yet...I've done a quick search and nothing came up.

I'm not quite the VC member that I once was so I don't understand the new "link posting policy" (I barely know anyone on here anymore!) but I thought all of you might be interested in listening to an audio-only interview from Tweedy at Bonnaroo on Bordersmedia.com. I received the link as part of my almost-daily Borders email. Jeff offers some insight on W(TA)'s title being inspired by Joe the Plumber. He explains the recording timeline for the new album and enjoying being away the Loft and Chicago winters. Props are also given to Feist and the filmmakers that worked on Ashes of American Flags.

It's not a direct link, so I think it is OK. If not, sorry, moderators. Not trying to rock the boat. Feel free to take it down.

  2. I got an email on Monday night saying it had shipped, but the mail came today, and it still isn't here. I even came home from work at lunch to check because I didn't want the vinyl to melt in the 95 degree weather we're having. Maybe it will come tomorrow. For a record I've already heard, I'm having a lot of trouble waiting for it.

I'm in the same position...email came Monday and no record yet. The tracking thing is odd, giving me no info about when to expect it.

  3. Seeing Conan come out to shake hands makes wonder whether Conan is the largest human on the planet or are Jeff and John midgets?

Ha! I thought the same thing. I always thought Conan looked tall next to the guys, but, this time, he seemed especially ginormous!

  4. That was great solace.

Jay is the first musician that I have really really admired that has passed away, in a cliched sense I feel at loss for words.

Listening to Summerteeth now, this is Jay's album.

I said the same thing...for me, one of the first losses of a musical hero from MY generation.

    A sad day, indeed...

  5. If its true, my thoughts go out to anyone close to Jay that might be reading this. His music meant a lot to a lot of us. Weather or not he left on good terms Wilco just wouldn't be Wilco without his contributions. Peace, Jay.

    Well put.

  6. I am still not sure how I feel about Wilco song. It took me like 2 minutes to realize it was a real song to begin with and I'm not still not recovered from the shock of the whole thing :lol

If I recall correctly, it came out right after "Joe the Plumber" arrived on the political scene, so I thought it was mocking the whole _________ the ___________ trend the Republican party was using. :stunned

As far as "One Wing", it really got me excited for the newest (and ever-inevitable) Wilco reinvention. It's definitely my favorite of the new lot of songs.

  7. Tweedy called it a "Colbert exclusive"...as much as I liked it I have a sneaky feeling that it won't show up again... :no

This sounds a lot like Summerteeth, but without 1000000 synths swooping around my head.

the apples in stereo did a similar thing on colbert, and they released it later on a compilation or as a yep roc extra...can't remember which. that gives me hope that it might show up somewhere else. unless, of course, that is a new song they adapted for the occasion and will rework for the new album.

    regardless, i love it!

  8. thanks so much for posting this! i was at this rally with my good friend and wilco die-hard chris, who drove in from grand rapids to see our favorite band and our presidential hopeful together.

just a recap if you were not there or cared: jeff joked that the band that evening was called "Ilc", referring to the fact that it was only part of wilco. i thought that was hilarious, and chris and i have been calling that incarnation Ilc ever since.

i would be voting for obama in this campaign even if wilco or jeff alone wasn't endorsing him. i'd like to think that most people that like both of them feel that way. still, it is nice to know that our favorite band supports causes that they believe in! that's always been something i've loved about wilco, personally.

btw, trivial note: that show was july 11. chandler (taper CKC) and i were married the next morning, so chris and i like to joke that we hung out with barack and jeff/pat/glenn at my "bachelorette party"! what great memories! :D

  9. i'm 19 minutes early, but just wanted to wish you all the best on your birthday, jeff! chicago misses you! :cheekkiss

(incredibly, btw, you were mentioned in the red eye last week as having a birthday soon and being a virgo...they used you as an example in some random, weirdly-placed horoscope listing.)
