if i could hear "poor places" tomorrow night in indy, all would be right in the world, i swear.
the setlist looks great, though, long encore or not. glad that so many of you had a great time, and sorry i missed donna swinging through the midwest again. (you aren't going to indy, are you, donna? if so, look me up!)

I think we saw the cover in another thread:
sorry. i was out of it for a while and missed that.

so, i was at the gym last week, and one of the girls who works there stopped me and told me that "that wilco band you always talk about" is in this month's reader's digest as one of their favorites/things to check out.
i turned to page 30 of the june issue, and, boom, there's our boys!
just thought it might make an upcoming trip to the doctor's office a bit brighter.

thanks for sharing.
great site, by the way.

kamera sounds awesome! thanks, kalle!

> Do you have an exact address for Jeff's new house in FLA
i thought the same too!. i though he wanted to get out of FLA over 10 years ago

I love my V-dub and Wilco, and I especially love listening to Wilco in my V-dub. Nothing is going to change that, certainly not a bunch of "fans" calling them sellouts.
i like this post. my beetle is as big of a wilco fan as i am.
my opinion about all of this is that i am sick of people calling bands or people sell-outs. they have to make a living too, in this world of illegal downloading and the such. good music makes commercials better/tolerable, so i say all the more power to them.
ps: the switchblade/key commercial? i laugh every time i see it.

he used to have pictures of nico (as in, the velvet underground and nico) on his guitar strap, i think. it could be her.

sounds like a great setlist, paul. "i'm always in love" and "kamera" sound especially yummy to me tonight. to top it off, they played my three faves from the new album..."you are my face", "shake it off", and "hate it here"...color me jealous, but happy for you, my friend.

If paying close attention to Wilco details makes one a geek, I'm the geekiest guy in CT.
Geeky girls are cute anyway.

was Jeff trying to be a yank or something?

I just found Sky Blue Sky, too...after watching YaMF I was dissapointed at how sloppy it was.
listening to "sky blue sky" there, it made me think of something: if the wilco fans that liked songs from the being there era like "far, far away" haven't been happy with wilco's direction in a while, they should be satisfied now.
all these performances made me think is that i'm glad i'm going to see them this summer.
-
the whole album kicks ass in a wilco album sorta way. i listen to it all the time, much more than i do their first album.
-
Oddly, those are my favorite parts of both of those songs.
if the part is what i'm thinking of, i agree completely...one of the best parts about that song.
-
Really? I thought it was just as good as YAMF. Jeff changed the chorus a little from "I should be satisfied" to "Should I be satisfied?" That was a little strange. But, the band did march on in formation, which was terrific.
the first time i heard him do that song was at champaign-urbana solo. i have a recording of it that i listen to often. he sings the lyric "should i be satisfied?"...personally, i like that mixed meaning. it reminds me of other great times when people switch up lyrics...the part about the molly character on "ob-la-di, ob-la-da" that paul mixes up. whether it is intended or not, it's brilliant, i think.
oh, i just thought of the other time wilco/jeff switches lyrics..."as you turn to go"/"as you walk away"/"as i turn to go" and "i'll be glad and you'll feel sad"/"i'll feel sad and you'll be glad"/"i'll be sad and you'll feel bad" in "bob dylan's 49th beard." no way to overanalyze those lyrics...they are different all the time.
sorry. i probably carried this new evidence of my geeky-ness too far, but it's early.

Blue sky when you gonna learn to rain?
And let yourself go blue for once
And let go of the weight you've been carrying
In this house, no one goes to sleep for days,
Its like were working on a mountainside
Trying not to slide,
Into the ocean,
I can take care of you
But only if you want
I’m strong enough to carry you
Across the icy lake, across the icy lake
But I can’t fight your blues,
Cause I know I'll lose
What's left of my mind
I can’t win,
But for you I will try
My baby blue
My mountain is hidden in a pile of trees
And it’s the one I'll have to climb,
If I ever wanna see,
Over the ocean
Blue sky
When you gonna learn to rain?
And let yourself go blue for once
And let go of the pain?
You can take care of me
The way I'd like to feel
Underneath the riverbed
Across the icy lake, across the icy lake
But I can’t fight your blues
Cause I know I'll lose
What's left of my mind
I can’t win,
But for you I will try
For you
My baby blue
that was the first thing/song i thought of when i heard the album title...great ryan song, imho.

wow. upon first glance at that setlist, it seems pretty dang mellow.

my podcast with wilco downloaded this afternoon. great interview...lots of nels talking. they also play "side with the seeds", "sky blue sky", and "what light".
some great quotes from jeff, per usual, as well.

happy b-day, jesse! you've been such a great asset to our community. i want to personally thank you for all the great shows you've made available to VC latecomers like me.

I was watching the film again the other day, and it reminded me how much Jeff has changed. It was almost as if the moment Jeff and Jay split, was when Jeff started to look happier.
I read a review of SBS the other day, that was almost complaining that because Jeff is happier, more content (and healthier), he's lost some kind of edge. I like how SBS is the sound of a content person.

Indianapolis Show (June 15)

thanks for those fantastic pictures.
the show was musically possibly the best wilco show i've seen. seeing that i've seen them plenty, that is saying a lot.
"outtasite" was absolutely electric, and i would venture to say that the crowd cheering for the encore was as loud as i've heard it in a wilco show lately. (even more than thanksgiving in a much bigger house, i think)
the band seemed to be in incredibly great spirits and having fun playing the music to a receptive crowd. the pure joy on jeff's face during "hate it here" and a few other new ones where a good part of the crowd was singing along was so awesome it made me downright giddy. the crowd was a huge improvement from the rock for riley show in october 2005, where most of the crowd seemed to be either drunk or bored.
i'm going to toronto in a few weeks and am already counting down the days. my only regret is not having gone to some of the other drivable gigs.
thanks for the fantastic show, guys, and another great album as well.
oh, one other thing...that was the best rendition of "sunken treasure" i've ever witnessed. no joke.
