  1. its just a stripped down version of a les paul, naked humbuckers, 2 controls and a switch. almost always black too. i think that they were just the retarded bodies with severe blemishes under the wood, so they gave it a little contour and made it a new model. gibson did some screwy things in those years, but none the less, the one i have played sounded ace as well.
The "The Paul" I have played was all brown, bare wood and it had four knobs and a switch. This one didn't have any bad wood blems either. Not sounding like I'm disagreeing, this was just my experience with the only The Paul I've played. :)
  2. I always took the deep chrome canyons of the loudest Manhattans to be an impersonal, crowded place where one's identity could easily be overlooked.
I always think about someone running down a big city street with enormous sky scrapers on either side, lost or trying to get away.
  3. I can't get enough of the twangy guitar in the beginning of "I Must Be High." I just love it. Someone on this board menitioned a while back that it was such a "fun" album to listen to with "good old rock n'roll songs about lost love, etc." or something to that effect. Anyway, I thought that was a good description. I'm "pissed that I missed" it when it first came out. :D

  4. Anyone own a recent model Les Paul?
One of my good friends has a 2003 Les Paul Studio and I agree with the frets being really high and narrow. Another friend has a 1973 The Paul and it is one of the best guitars I have ever played. I think if you look around on ebay you can get a 59 or 60 reissue LP for $1100 or so. One other friend got a honeyburst 60 reissue with upgraded DiMarzio pickups in that price range, and it's a screamer.
  5. have you even read a word of what he was saying in those posts?
I initially read the "original" post on ryanadams.org a couple days before all the responses came out and it was posted on this board, but wasn't sure if it was RA or someone impersonating him. Thus, I did not take it as serious...so when I read it on here my interest began to grow. I think it's great if he has enough material to release three (more) albums. I hope it's all fucking awesome. Along with Wilco, Ryan Adams is one of my favorite performers/musicians. I wasn't trying to bash his abilities to write and release records, it was just my feeling/concern that I perhaps wouldn't like all of the things that he is planning on releasing. And I don't have to, I don't need to be selfish and have all of it appeal to me. I thoroughly understand people's wishes to release material and the understanding that people may not like the material that has been worked on so hard to write, produce, etc. That's just the breaks of music. I was simply stating that in the past, I didn't especially care for all of Mr. Adam's releases. That was simply my opinion, my two cents. I wasn't implying it doesn't take emotion or thought or time to write that volume of music. I get where he's coming from. He tends to catch more shit than most other musicians out there (IMO). And I did read what he was saying in his posts. :)
  6. their stupid fucking ringtones go off again and again.
There is a woman whom I work with that has a "meow" ringtone that sounds exactly like a real cat. Last time it went off during a meeting and literally everyone around the table looked under the table or around for a cat. Quite annoying, but funny as well.
  7. Have you listened to any of the three albums?

Yes. I have all of Ryan Adams' albums and have listened to them. IMO, and it's only that, I really liked Cold Roses considerably more than JCN or 29. I understand that every album is different and they shouldn't all sound the same, I just didn't enjoy JCN and 29 that much. I guess I should have phrased my post differently to not suggest that I thought the material was of less quality, just that I didn't care as much for RA's last two albums. I am however giving JCN a couple plays through at the the office today, just to see.. :)

edit: I assumed you meant the last three albums he released and not the forthcoming three...I sure haven't heard the new ones.

    people bitch about this

I didn't mean to come across as bitching, and yes the Beatles were very prolific in their abilities to release numerous quality recordings in a relatively short amount of time.
