  1. I've never played with a pick so I'm not sure if this would help but, try to play the songs you know minus a pick, make your index and thumb as if you were holding a pick but strum with the nail of your index finger. From there, try to use your ring and pinky if possible to hit the higher notes of the chord, just to get a feel for it. Then you can try maneuver them to where you want them. Also, on a related but different note, try to do what I call the "backwards finger roll" your strings. Imagine tapping your fingers, right? Pinky, ring, middle, index hit the table one after the other. Now, lift your fingers in that order and position your hand so when you lift, your nails hit the strings. It sounds horribly complicated when typed out, but if you can figure it out, it makes a wonderful sound, often employed in flamenco because it leads so well into percussive stuff on the body but it can also really set up some nice fingerpicking.

    Best of luck!

Lovely! For the first time ever, the family is having Thanksgiving in New York. Thanks Mom and Dad.

  3. Look's like his new album The Information is set to drop October 3rd in the States. Two new tracks are streaming at his website, sounds a lot more groove intensive than Guero. A new video too. Hope you all enjoy!

  4. For some reason, I had this song confused with the one to "Kicking Television." Any tips on how to play that (specifically, like the one on the live album)?

I was thinking the same thing today. I have no idea, I think there may be a tab of it somewhere around here, maybe it's pinned? Where ever it is, it didn't work for me. Sorry.

  5. Whenever I try to play bottleneck, it sucks. Even in alternate tuning. Someone suggested this thing you place at the top of the neck to raise the action a wee bit. Anybody know of this? Or should I stop blaming my failures on equipment and actually practice it?

  6. Stephen Malkmus used a distortion pedal when he was solo the other week. As much as I enjoyed it, I wouldn't recommend using it; it was mostly for novelty value. That being said, I would go with a volume pedal and reverb, you should be able to get some nice sounds of those and it shouldn't be too overboard.
