  1. I think it looks like Locke (in the cabin). And that the "enemy" had his mind set on being Locke for a long time...at first I thought he couldn't have already been in Locke's body at that point in the show, because Locke wasn't dead yet...but if Locke's body was in that box that the 316ers were hauling around the island all episode, then the enemy didn't need the actual body to take its form. Also, the enemy took the form of Walt, who was never dead either. He's just been set on being Locke and using him.

But...why didn't the enemy just use Ben ages ago? Why go through the trouble of getting Locke to this point? Ben already had an established position of power with the others. He could have gotten one of his minions to kill Jacob just as easily as he was convinced by "Locke"...manipulation was Ben's claim to fame. Perhaps this is why Jacob never revealed himself to Ben? I don't know. A bit confused here.

Also, did everyone notice that Jacob touched every member of the Oceanic 6 in their flashbacks? I'm trying to figure out the significance..

Finally: Bernard and Rose are the smartest people on the whole damn island.

PS. One last after thought: Was the real Locke the one who broke the ash circle around the cabin when Ben first brought him there? I can't remember. I vaguely remember him picking ash up in his hands to figure out what it was....

  2. But as for Jacob's warning to his enemy...this might get a little winded but bear with me. Jacob's cabin from the previous season's? I don't think that was either Jacob's cabin or Jacob. Jacob clearly lived in the statue, and I think it was Jacob's enemy being locked in the cabin by the ash that surrounded it. When the ash had that line broken through it that Iliana noticed in the finale, Jacob's enemy broke free allowing him to become proxy for John Locke. BUT this was after telling John Locke to "Help him" (him being Jacob's enemy). Confused yet? Basically, Jacob's enemy put everything into motion for Locke to become the leader of the others, and when Locke's dead body returned, he was able to assume it. Another thought that might be related, might not, is that Jacob wanted to die for whatever reason, but couldn't....that's why the man on the beach (or enemy) in the beginning of tonight's finale said "I wish I could kill you", he sincerely wanted to put him out of his misery, and for whatever reason had to have someone else (Ben) do it for him...this is all after proving Jacob wrong about the timeloop business.

I lost steam and my head hurts, and there is no point in trying to make too much sense out of all of this. Yet.

you are most definitely on to something. i'm on board. also, i think jacob didn't intervene because again, he's all about free will. what happens happens. it is all set in motion because, ultimately, his death will save the island.

    PS: pilot_001.jpg

jack is not nearly as beat up here as he was after sawyer was through with him..

  3. Maybe it was more like "my buddies are coming to kill you"?

HEY! What did Richard say, in Spanish, when asked what lies in the shadows of the statue???

Richard replies in Latin, "He who will protect/save us all."

so much for that...way to go ben

  4. Ok so my guess, that I've had in some form or another for a while, and was only reinforced by that shot after the show ended...The bomb sent Jack, etc. back to when they first crashed on the island. That opening shot from the pilot with Jack's eye...I'm thinking that's where/when they get sent back to - not LAX as Sawyer said. Something just wasn't right about that first scene with Jack running around the coast until he turned the corner and saw the plane wreckage.

And I think it's pretty evident that the Locke that has been walking around the island is Jacob's enemy from the beginning of the finale. And also probably Alex and by extension Christian. I'm guessing the "they" that are coming according to Jacob are Illiana and the box crew with real Locke's body.

I dunno, I'm still kinda amped from the end of that.

I agree, there is a screenshot somewhere of that first scene of the series

of jack opening his eyes with that baton/extendable stick thing lying next to him that ben used when he landed in the desert in tunisia to beat up widmore's guys. so it seems that that "opening" scene is after a lot of events on the island have happened already..

I'll work on finding it.. it's interesting that you think thats where they are going to end up at the beginning of next season though. i was thinking that was how the entire series would end (and make a hell of a lot of people unhappy) i'm having trouble convincing myself they would do that, but it was a thought. just starting the entire story over again..one big endless cycle....you ultimately cant change anything..what happens happens.. god my head hurts thinking about it.

but, to oppose that thought, how would they carry on with the season if they opened with that scene? they cant start over now...also, everyone has to make it back for the war! duh. who would want to miss out on THAT?

also, why did jacob warn his enemy that "they were coming"? i dont think the guy deserved a warning. or try and talk ben out of what he was about to do? i suppose he was all about free will. but still. ugh. i'm still processing.

  5. This is a true man dilemma. I have this issue too. I want the CD, the LP, and the shirt, but the tote is threatening my manliness. I might just have to start burping a lot to compensate, I dunno.

I mean, I'll take your tote, if you REALLY don't want it..

    oh and:

All natural cotton canvas tote with Wilco (the album) logo on front. This thick and durable tote has long straps for shoulder comfort and weighs 12 ounces. Perfect for carrying vinyl, books, groceries, children, etc.

    :lol

  6. Email from wilcoworld:

Well, we made it nearly a month with copies of Wilco (the album) floating around out there before it leaked. Pretty impressive restraint in this day and age. But the inevitable happened last night. Since we know you're curious and probably have better things to do than scour the internet for a download (though we do understand the attraction of the illicit), we've posted a stream of the full album at http://wilcoworld.net/records/thealbum/ . Feel free to refer to it as "wilco (the stream)" if you must.

We also have our usual guilt abatement plan for downloaders. If you have downloaded the record, we suggest you make a donation to one of the band's favorite charities, the Inspiration Corporation -- an organization we've supported in the past & who are doing great work in the city of Chicago. Information and donation button here: http://inspirationcorp.org/.

That's all. Enjoy the stream. Tickets for summer shows, etc. http://wilcoworld.net/tours/ Note that we'll be holding a free online midnight screening of the "Ashes of American Flags" film this Friday night (at both midnight US Central time and again at midnight Pacific). So get the popcorn or whatever together and be sure to log on and tune in on Friday.

  7. Deeper Down

By the end of the bout

    he was punched out

    fist(?) capsized, muscles shouting

    deeper down

he felt the insult of a kiss

deeper still than we can go

    further out than triremes row

    drowning slow

    his memories persist

    out beyond the telescope's prowl

up above the tallest dutch(something?) path

    he realized

    this mystery is his

    underneath the ocean floor

the part of who we are but don't explore

    i adore the meaninglessness

of the this we can express

By the end of the bout he was punched out

    fist capsized, muscles shouting

    deeper down

he felt the comfort of a kiss

  8. I feel like the fact it's called Wilco (The Album) is pretty adequate. If I had to describe this to anyone I'd say it's Wilco's entire career packed into one album. There's some of the sonic weirdness, some of the structural weirdness, some of the lyrical genius, some of the fun, some of the pop, some of the country-ish tendencies.

    right on

  9. I'm quite disappointed with this album. Nothing is grabbing me here the way YAMF or Impossible Germany did. I don't want to be harsh, but it feels....lazy. I'm sure these songs will all be better live but this album isn't doing it for me at all. What a giant bummer.

    I feel sorry for you.

  10. I stopped everything I was doing when the intro to I'll Fight came on...and then I started dancing my ass off.

As excited as I was to hear a full band version of Solitaire, I think it's going to remain a JT solo favorite..but that is not a bad thing. At all.

Feist + Jeff on You and I makes my ears really happy

Sunny Feeling just got me moving again. can't wait to dance to this one live! :dancing

  11. Wait! Before your post your e-mail here. It's a lot easier for me if you hit me up directly. I have been copying and pasting e-mails in, but as you'd imagine it's a lot easier for me to do it direct. I am not backed up with e-mails either and have been turning these around pretty quickly. So if you want it mpolak21@gmail.com. Thanks, and happy listening.

    --Mike.

    Thanks Mpolak! :cheekkiss

I am resisting the urge to jump straight to Solitaire, my most anticipated song on the album....patience patience. also, jeff played deeper down at our living room show and it was great, but i am loving this full band version.

PS i love the outbreak of lurkers :ninja :lol

PPS dear everyone in this thread: if you are shamelessly begging for a link i would HOPE you have the respect to go out and buy the damn thing

  12. im trying not to let myself get worked up about this. i feel like something else is going on here.

what would sending daniel back to the island to die do/change for eloise?? what does this accomplish? if eloise DID know that this would happen, that sending him back would mean she kills him (again), then does this mean that she lived her entire life pushing daniel to be a physicist/figure out time travel just so he could get back to that exact moment in time...just so she could kill him again?

something is missing. i don't know, this is where i start confusing myself. but something doesnt seem right. or am i not understanding the time travel thing correctly again?

I don't get that. Faraday is all "no no, you can't change anything". And then he's like "wait, maybe you can!". And so he comes up with this idea, goes into a camp known as The Hostiles, waves his gun around, and then is all "oh damn, I got shot". Did he not wonder "oh hey, maybe this didn't work out?"!!

    yeah, i dont know...

his assurance to jack that it was very possible for one of them to die..the way he pranced in there with a gun screaming for eloise, making sure she heard him (not to mention he was wearing dharma garb..)..the way he got the information out about the bomb right away and didnt wait for eloise (perhaps so they could make the connection before he got taken out by someone?)..this also seems a little fishy to me. maybe this was still part of some kind of "plan"? maybe this was all still part of him making sure the right events played out?

    i dont know, maybe not.

i need to watch this one again..

  13. I'd be all for Richard taking control...I feel like he's the only one who deserves some power at this point. Original inhabitant, best interest of the island always in mind, is really the one who brings the most important people to the island..in fact, I wouldn't be surprised if he is the one plotting Ben and Widmore against each other in an attempt to have them wipe each other out so he can reclaim his precious island. I like it

  14. The Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach, CA had their first "Photographer's Night" a couple weeks ago..closed the aquarium to the "general public" but pretty much anyone with a camera was allowed in. Really great to be able to get in there and take pictures of tanks that are normally crowded with onlookers...but also just really cool to wander around a dark aquarium at night. Anyway, a couple shots from that (I was a big fan of the sea jellies..):

  15. There is no "good" or "bad" in this show. It's all different perspectives. The mystery with Ben is not whether he's good or bad, it's what his motivations are. Are they to protect the Island like he claimed with Witmore? Or are his motivations purely about himself? Greed? Revenge? Power?

this is a good point, and perhaps more of what i meant. whatever his motivations may be, i am definitely starting to lean more towards believing that he will protect the island at all costs, even if it means sacrificing himself...but i'm sure i will retract that statement next week, as usual :hmm

i am also glad to see cesar go..seems like he was just there to distract us from ilana. curious to see what her background is..im wondering if she thinks lapidus is an other? either way, he must be regretting his decision to ditch the locke team

  16. okay, so i understand that it doesnt matter what any of them do right now (in terms of how their futures play out). whether it was jack who saved ben, or the others who saved ben, or even if juliet had been able to fix him...he will still become the ben we know and love/hate in the present. SO. if the past already happened, and they cant really "change" anything per se because it will all lead to their present/futures as they know them no matter what events happen right now, then i still don't understand why the losties don't remember all of this happening before in their pasts. can anyone explain this to me? :stunned
