  1. And just for the record... if it is down to ticket sales, could it be down to (dare I say it...) excessive pricing? I've been to loads of gigs that have been moved from the bigger Academy 1 to the Academy's 2 and 3... that wouldn't have been a problem... Happens all the time. I don't intend this to be another can of worms for the opening, but a lot of my friends were put off by the price... (I think they are well worth it for the record). I really hope they re-schedule... Alex
  2. Here, here. Forgive my ignorance, but I'd really like to know who pockets the booking fee, I mean... I bought my tickets from the venue in person from a ticket office so what exactly needs to be 'booked'? I have no problem with the (admittedly pretty darn hard working...) band but lets have at least a modicum of communication, this is 2007 after all. Alex
  3. I think this is pretty bad form on the part of Nonesuch. I mean, the venues/ticket sellers must have known about this at least yesterday, and still no word from the band/band's management via wilcoworld. How hard can it be to post a reason for what appears to be an abandoned national tour (albeit a handful of dates - okay, so I'm sensationalising a little here...) Am I spitting my dummy out here or is it a fair point? If only to clarify the dates that are going ahead, or give people a chance to cancel hotels/train tickets something should have been said ages ago. Very sloppy and unprofessi
  4. I can't imagine them just canceling the one show? Although the Academy 1 is in the process of some serious renovations... I wonder if it won't be ready or something? Can I just take another opportunity to say how pissed off I am. Alex
  5. I couldn't believe it when he came on stage with Jeff at the first of the London shows earlier this year... He looked really uncomfortable at the praise he was fatting from Jeff (I think he said that his (Bill's) music meant more to him than any other artists over the past few years... I was a little pissed and may be talking shit, but it was something like that... Man I love that picture on the cover of the self-titled record by BF, it looks like he's walking on water on the serpentine in Hyde Park, there's also some great sleeve notes with that album where he mentions how bewildering and f

    Album artwork

If you count the vinyl version of AGIB, I think that is my favourite. (The nest) I happen to agree with the point that Being There was probably just cobbled together although the picture of Jeff shouting into a mic makes me wonder if that's what he looks like when he's having an argument... Very random I know... Alex
  7. This would be a great thread for Jeff to pop his VC cherry!
  8. this is in regard to the early quotes about nels cline and it is music shooling, after all. holistically speaking, it does fit in with the notion of theories and practise in terms of performance, but i do take your point.plus, isnt theory only codifying information. what was that information before it was formalised as theory? you might not know the dots on the page but you know how it sounds.
  9. surely, theory has conly ome about after hundreds of years of studying the dynamics of music. this argument kind of reminds me of the christian dilemma of what happened to the souls of people before christianity if the only way to heaven was through christ? did the music makers before the dawn of theory not write great music simply because they werent schooled in any kind of formal technique? there are many ways up a mountain but the map will show you the easiest path, not neccessarily the best. knowing the way to do something doesnt mean you will neccessarily execute it with style, panache
  10. just keeping you on your toes Froggie!
  11. I'm just re-reading Kot's book and although I'm no Bennett-hater, the following Jonathan Parker quote made me chuckle: (on the sacking of Jay Bennett) 'Personality wise, it was the right move. Musically, I think it was a big mistake. The fan in me thinks, "you're not going to find a better lead guitar player|" And here we are, July 2007 with Nels Cline, undoubtedly one of the best guitarists of his generation. I love Jay's guitar sound but when the gap appeared in the group I think Jeff really started ripping things up in his own right, on AGIB for instance. Whenever I hear ALTWYS, Jeff
  12. That would be a great record...
  13. I just really love the opening 5 tracks on AGIB and the way they grew on me. I think the fact that the songs still feature so prominently in the latest setlists is a testiment to the quality of the songwriting. I also have such a personal connection with them too, which might be tainting my opinion a little! At Least That's What You Said is probably my favourite live 'full band' song... Alex
  14. I like The Search, but I don't think it's a patch on AGIB or YHF, only my opinion though so don't set the hounds on me! Alex
  15. What a great idea, I can't read notation but would be curious to hear what this sounds like! (It would be hilarious if it sounded like 'I Am A Wheel'...) Thanks, Alex
  16. I'm sure I've seen very old sheet music for this song... so did Wilco just change the arrangement, rather than compose it? for instance, there's a pdf of the notation here: http://odin.indstate.edu/about/units/rbsc/kirk/sm1900.html Alex :ike

    on and on

I was wondering the same thing recently, I searched the forum, but found nothing. I might have a go this weekend if I get a chance, it's a beautiful song. Alex
  18. Thanking you kindly... the YHF image is great. I've just scanned the eggs from the Wilco Book. I'll post the images when they're done. Alex
  19. They've been making roof-racks for VW for years, it's a secret door in the loft which takes you to the factory... you just have to remove Abba's 'Dancing Queen' CDS from the shelf and the wall revolves... http://www.nexusuk.org/sell/roofrack/ Alex
  20. Okay, I'm trying to put together a series af three photos, (for which I have some nice frames ready in-waiting) of the YHF,AGIB and SBS artwork, basically I think the band's album artwork is nothing short of sublime. I've kinda' done a couple of them but could really do with scans of the vinyl versions (the big juicy ones!) Has anybody done this before, I think the three pictures would look great in black and white as a series (the towers/the nest or egg and the sky chase image. I have access to a reprographics department here at work so if I could only get the higher res scans (I pretty mu
  21. Welcome to the forum... I don't know what Wilco stuff you have but this is definitely the best place to start discovering the band. I'm pretty envious of the wonderful journey ahead of you... That sounds pretty gay, so I'll round this reply off by saying you should definitely check out a full show someday, they are amazing live. Alex
  22. Thanks Kalle, but I meant the bits like Jeff's solo on SBS (which you can see really well!) I'm soldiering through the rest of the album from the tabs section, kinda' like fun homework! Alex
