  1. Wow! Thanks everyone.

Chris, amazing that you already know me so well. Those would all be great gifts. YOU are cherry.

Johnny, would love to do those mountains with you some day. Thanks.

Lou, how many Leos do you know? Definitely will see you here or in Chicago or, better yet, both.

Viatroy, is there any other way to be undressed!? Thanks.

Tom, thanks, lets do some shows and a Chisox/Tiger game.

To the others I haven't yet met, thank you.

  2. Crazy rides rockets

    Waves a magic wand

    Empty out your pockets

    Words without a song

    :banana

These make perfect sense to me. In fact, they described me at one time. Goddamn I love this song!

  3. (Recent example: whoever the fuck that was who opened for Califone in Ann Arbor a couple of months ago ... some kid who just stood on stage and twisted knobs while playing a cassette tape of godawful noise in front of an endlessly repeating, and endlessly stupid, homemade DVD.)

That was BRUTAL. I was embarrassed for the kid.

Walked out on Lynyrd Skynyrd ... 3 years ago. 'Nuff said. Why was I there, you ask? Don't.

  4. Man, I had a awesome time. The more I think about the more I realize how truly special that event was. It must have been, made me finally join the VC.

Hey Edie - Your the bomb for your setlist! Give Scott my best

    Hummingbird's husband

    Miiiiike!

    Welcome.

Good name. It has a nice ring at the end.

  5. Then we got to watch Tweedy toss the Nerf football around. And we were both swoony.

Does he have a good arm?

The only thing I've seen him toss was a diet coke shot in a chocolate shotglass designed for Bailey's during the pee break. He was so excited, he spilled half of it on the Coleman's dining room table cloth. Hilarious!

  6. Funny story:

the silver jews were scheduled to play webster hall in nyc on 12/30/06. this was the second time they were coming to NYC and i bought tix since i had to miss their first tour with a broken ankle/crutches. A month or so before the show, it was canceled and an open letter to the fans was posted on the Joos website saying that the band needed winterizing. All complaints were to be directed to a PO Box in tennessee.

So as a goof I sent a letter to the band saying how bummed i was. it was totally tongue in cheek -- something about how my winterizing was going to take place at that show and now what would i do?

So anyway, i forgot about it and then a couple of weeks ago, I get this totally bizarre postcard addressed to me with my name misspelled. the postcard is from nashville and has a fireworks display on the front. its basically in chicken scratch and i can barely read who it is signed by. it looks like three initials. J, ?, B. I assume its a dork friend of mine with the intials JB who maybe took a vacation that i didnt know about.

I can barely make out what it says on the card too, but after a couple minutes of scratching my head I realize that its not a JB, its a DB, and the note is a poem. And its basically a note/poem to me:

You can't make cheesecakes out of snow

Don't worry, we will play a New York show

So, now I have my very own personal hand written poem from David Berman. :thumbup

That is great. Love Bright Flight. Saw them in Ann Arbor last year. An amazing show.

  7. me too. i wore A.O.'s #26 from little league through high school. he was my first sports hero as a kid.

my football hero was O.J. and i wore his #32 from pee wee through college...needless to say, he let me down a little.

btw: the royals have a legit G.M. in dayton moore and will be making noise in a few years. there are some good young players coming up (alex gordon, billy butler, etc.) and things definately can't get any worse.

    you'll see.

It's going to be a tough couple of years: not easy to gain any momentum with a young team in baseball's toughest division.

  8. :lol

I still lick Bethany's face, but by the time I get a chair so that I can reach Joshua's, he runs away.

My son's a soph in college. I still lay a lingering kiss on his cheek any chance I get, especially in front of his friends. He doesn't seem to mind (I've been doing it all his life) but his buddies always seemed shocked.

  9. It couldn't have been more perfect. It sparkled!

Edie's party the night before keyed the weekend. It was so easy and fun meeting everyone and learning that we all shared this very personal perspective about this very special man.

The Colemans welcoming us into their remarkable home. It was as if their house had been built for that weekend. Especially the winding stairs down to the basement/soundstage. It allowed us to lurk like children on Christmas morning while what seemed the longest sound check ever occurred.

Jeff was in an amazing mood. He seemed so happy. His banter was priceless. The Mexico vacation, the STD guitars, the reluctance to play PKB explanation, who wears the pants in the Tweedling home, the Letters to the Easter Bunny bit and, best of all: after completing Pecan Pie, his concern that Sue seemed sad after hearing a happy song. Her explanation that hearing it caused her to miss her bar and his telling us how it was that he composed Pecan Pie while walking to Lounge Axe to see her, let us in on such a private, loving, and human moment. It was a very intimate evening; not just in proximity, but emotionally. It affirmed his status as a truly great songwriter: his music being a reflection of his soul. He is an honest, passionate, tender man.

But, what really pushed this weekend over the top was you all! I am humbled by how comfortable and familiar we all were, most meeting for the first time. "We laughed, we cried ..." I feel as though we've all been friends for years. Thank you for that.

Let's all do it again, soon.

    Thanks Erin. You are beautiful.
