  1. tweedy at the The Chapel-Calvin College nov 10 2005. he stood in the middle of the room with audience surrounding him, pure sound....awesome experience.

This was my favorite show EVER. Outside of 03/03/07 of course.

  2. I'm a tiger season ticket holder. Yeah, I'm a Tiger season ticket holder who, because of a weekly commitment, sold all his Tuesday night games. AAAAAHHHHHHH!!!!

Miller, Verlander and Bonderman for the next 4-6 years. As George Kell would say, "look OUT!"

  3. I hope we can make it. Unfortunately DH is in a conference in Covington until 6:30. Fortunately really, that's why were making the road trip... What a blast it would be to meet you all!

I'm sure some will be meeting up after the show.

  4. Wow. Little did I know, the VC'ers are everywhere too.

Thanks for the links to your video. Wonderful show. Yes I am an Ann Arborite at heart, but alas a mortgage refugee. I live in a small town west of A2.

Today I'm so excited to be getting ready for a road trip to accompany the DH to a conference...in Cincinnati. And so I get to go see my favorite band for the first time in 8 months!! I can't count the number of times I've seen them, but I still get charged up. Hope the skies are as blue over the Arnoff as there are here in Chelsea.

Hey, welcome to VC. I live 40 mins SE of A2 and am there often.

Look for you at the Cincy show. You should really try to get to Nicholson's and say hello.

  5. Interesting -

Some people just are turned off by a band's songs being in a commercial. Some are not. I don't like it at all.

I think message boards, by nature, - or at least the ones I have seen are places where people debate issues - or can anyway.

This will die off after a while - these things always do.

And I still think some people enjoy a messiah relationship with Jeff, others a Tiger Beat type of deal - so it's hard for them to be critical.

I am a bit overly jaded - so you have that going on also.

This is the only message board / online community in which I've participated. You know...that sense of "belonging" which we all crave was, for me, satisfied.

Even though I am not the most active member, I always felt a part of, because we all share a similar perspective. A perspective that is sorely lacking in my community and work place.

So this thread, having gone beyond "debate", has revealed the same conflict and dissension that I look to espcape by coming here.

Yeah, I'm whining. But I'm sure you're right, A-man. Like every thing else, it will die and change into something else. Maybe it will reincarnate itself into a thread discussing whether Wallace actually needed over 1000 pages to detail ideas covered in self-help books. Just kidding.

  6. Better than what?

Better than sheep concerned only with how we sound, look, and feel; constantly comparing ourselves to others in an attempt to feel better; representing ourselves in any way that makes us feel we belong or are above; always plussing and minusing and never getting equal; basically, that.

  7. :unsure

I can still hear Leo's voice thundering around in here.

Yeah, work frustrations came out sideways all over this thread. It's an easy target.

I include myself in my overstated indictment.

It's just that...WTF? I know we're all better than this.

  8. I didn't read any of that.

    I did.

And it's all about being selfless and humble and open.

    And it's all true.

Unfortunately, noone in this thread, including the "sponsor" of the quote, gives a fuck about being selfless and humble and open.

    Enough!

  9. Not that I give credence to the tastes of others (well, not always), but I was not thrilled to see SBS promoted by Starbucks in a display with Maroon 5. NOT COOL MAN...

  10. Only saw him once -- Hill Auditorium, Ann Arbor, 1977. He was, and is one of my musical heroes and the show remains a top 10, largely due to Frank and Adrian Belew trading scorching riffs and solos. Because it was me, 19 years old, in Ann Arbor, and it was 1977, I don't recall much more that that.

  11. No kidding, he is nearly dead....

The first three albums have just been reissued I discovered the other day, with really nice packaging and an extra song or two on each. I have all these on the old vinyl so don't think I will buy them, but for new comers it is a nice way to go. My guess is that the reissue program is fueling the interview.

Strange coincidence ... I listened to Side 2 of "Songs..." this morning getting ready for work. Hadn't listened in quite some time. Lovely.

  12. i was at the show also yesterday and thought it was really enjoyable. the crowd was rather dead though.

Very dead. I thought the sound in the theater was terrible too. But, he somehow overcame it all to give a great show. Seeing Iggy tonight and Lucinda Sunday. Big weekend!

  13. Saw him at the Majestic in Detroit last night. Absolutely beautiful. Enjoyed the live show better than the albums. His violin playing will bring you to tears. Maybe a little too much whistling (he could easily lead the chorus in Bridge Over The River Kwai).

  14. I am only on my second listen, but it sounds pretty awesome :)

but the best National songs reveal themselves in time, so I hope that is the case on Boxer as well.

Agreed! After many listens, Sad Songs has proven more durable than Alligator which, for me, presented it's charms quicker.

This album is FINE! Have been listening every day since leaked, and liking it more and more. Can't wait to see them this summer.

  15. It occured to me today that you probably cut your musical teeth as a yout listening to CKLW just like Lou and I did. That might explain alot. :banana

I hope you had a wonderful day!

    YES!

I remeber listening on a gray and silver Magnavox clock radio -- before digital readouts!

Then graduated to WABX and W4.

Had a great weekend. Thanks, Chris. How was Morelling? Heading to the Tiger opener today with Lee. Nice sunny day for baseball.

And thank you Donna. Your creation made my mouth water.

Earl (Chris), thanks for the wishes and Go Marlins!
