great marketing on behalf of the new yorker.
every news broadcast in the nation on tv and radio has mentioned their publication.

as long as guinness stays irish, all is well with my beer universe.

but no one cared when Miller was sold off?
what's Miller?
jk
-
So when is Coca-Cola going to be sold off?
There are some products that so identifiable as American products, they always seemed to be immune from being sold off to other countries and Bud was definately one of them. Oh well.
-
And now, I will bring Chris Rock into it, from his Bigger and Blacker special:
Black people hate white people!
yeah, so does rev. jeremiah wright.
but apparently that isn't the "same" reverend wright that barack knew.
-
Puts Sharpton to shame.
that wouldn't take much of an effort.
-
I mean, regardless, it's true. I just don't recall him ever saying it.
the huffington post, olbermann and msnbc tend to gloss over those kind of statements.
they never mention racial comments unless they happen to come from a republican.
-
I wasn't discussing his ego. You essentially said that he wasn't a reverend. He has a Masters of Divinity from Chicago Theological Seminary.
I'm not too fond of the guy, I'm just not sure why you are comparing his credentials to an online whatever.
i was merely referencing the percieved lack of actual religious application regarding his "rev" credentials.
he uses the "reverend" before his name as a prop. i don't see him as a person concerned with anything or anyone else but himself. at least that's been my impression of him for the last 20-30 years.
-
No no no. Remember, Barack said the republicans would be talking about his skin color.
"We know what kind of campaign they're going to run....did we mention he's black!?"
I think one side talks about race more than the other.
it's those kind of statements that piss me off. but...what can ya do?
oh yeah...nothing.
Link?it's on you tube.

when SP finally opens for a puppet show at a theme park maybe that's a good time to call it a day?

Did your sister-in-law attend seminary? Did she leave seminary to work in the civil rights movement?
sorry, but i have no further interest in discussing rev. jackson's ego. i respect his work in the civil rights movement. it's kind of like my respect for mccain and his service in vietnam. it's what came after that i have a hard time applauding.
-
my 20th was last year and i didn't go.
i went to my 10th and that was good enough for me. i haven't talked to anyone from h.s. in years so why bother now?
-
Oh, is race-tolerance a function of time?
no.
but i think that the whole "not voting for barack because he's black" thing is a figment of some peoples imaginations. sure, there are gonna be racist idiots out there, but not a significant number to even bother mentioning. i just don't understand why race is even brought into the conversation. is that supposed to be an insult to those not under the spell of obama?
jesse jackson is a joke because he's all about himself. he hasn't been relevant for decades, so why would anyone care about his opinion. if i remember correctly, he wasn't sold on barack from the beginning. he can say he's a friend of his all he wants, but it is plain as day that he does not like giving up the spotlight to someone else.
-
(he is the Rev after all)
LouieB
so, exactly what congregation does jesse jackson preside over every sunday? the initials before his name are as meaningful as a dr. phil's and certainly don't carry the same respect. he's certainly a joke around these parts. i say this with no disrespect whatsoever to the "actual" civil rights movement.
he's a rev as much as my sister-in-law is. she was ordained via the internet. only she's a lot more loveable and not a camera hog/attention whore like the rev. jackson. jesse is all about jesse.

I agree -- this won't be enough for those that distrust Obama because he is black
i'm sorry, isn't this 2008? i could have sworn this was the year 2008.

An informed consumer is the enemy of capitalism.
a disciplined consumer is the enemy of capitalism.
once upon a time, i worked in a sam's club. we were told that 70% of their sales came from impulse purchases. so, if everyone stuck to a budget. one would buy less. and sam's sales would drop like a rock. of course, that will never happen.

Looking forward to renting the John Adams DVD though.
the John Adams series was the best thing i'd seen in years. i highly recommend it.

Our country has been responsible for a lot worse, but today, we know more about it with more frequency.
i miss the days when there was only one CNN channel and nothing else.

The oil fields are about to be leased to multi-national corporations. Some of them American.
well then, i hope the oil speculators are taking note of this. what's it gonna be? .10 cents cheaper a gallon in 2009? meaning it will be 5.92 instead of 6.02 next summer? can't wait for that...
thank you president bush...thank you...your crazy plot for middle east domination and control of oil is working after all! and it only took you and your father just shy of 20 years.... .10 cents a gallon...hot damn...
-
I think the point is that it is funny because the GOP has a bit of a reputation (fairly or unfairly) for parading out minorities seemingly to say "look we're not all old white men" and for his ad, the only image of him with a minority they could dig up is with a woman wearing an Obama shirt. Whatever, it is kinda funny, but there is nothing to "make of it," in my opinion.
well, when 90% of a particular demographic is reportedly voting for a specific candidate (hmmm...i can't figure out exactly why that is), what exactly is an old fart like mccain supposed to do? he want's to be everybody's "friend" but nobody wants to play with him.
-
gain control of the middle east and its oil.
where in the hell is all this oil? because i'd reaaally like to know.
that is about as cliched a statement as there is in regards to u.s./middle east issues going all the way back to the first iraq war.
meanwhile, i'm looking around the house for stuff to sell for gas money.
-
what exactly is the big deal about mccain shaking a womans hand that is sporting an obama logo? i guess i've missed that story?
john mccain has wasted no opportunity to fraternize with democrats, why would he stop now? in fact, i think when he dreams at night he IS a democrat. so what's the big deal?
obama proudly claims to have "obamacins" (repubs w/out a conscience) in his ranks. what's up with that? although i think those obamacins are merely a front to mask barack's lack of experience in reaching across the aisle.

**Why, just the other day I was thinking the very same thing about Jesus H. Christ....
**that was sort of a joke - lest someone be offended.
i think that was still "tim russert week" wasn't it?...i can't remember.
jesus already had an "in" with the big guy. there was no need for a discussion.

While we are it - it would be nice to put the brakes on jobs going to India and China - but that is another fantasy I have.
i'm all for that as well. maybe that should be the focus (retaining jobs). if they keep exporting jobs, the more people are going to be standing around. or maybe that's part of the evil plan that is afoot we are supposed to be oblivious to.
