  1. That kind of sarcasm scares me a little, but I agree--our whole situation is scary. There's no way we can reasonably expect any third-rate modern president to do much of anything in office, but a Democrat might be just what the Republicans need. If the Dems are too inept to sink the Republican ship in 2008, 4 years of classic Democrat ineptitude might be just the thing to bring the Republicans back in office in 2012.

republicans brought this all on themselves. they had it all and choked all over themselves. what goes around comes around. the dems are now up to bat and let's see what happens this time.

past history is not very encouraging.

but from what i keep hearing, barack can bat 1,000.

if it wasn't for sarcasm, i'd be really depressed right now.

  2. Jeez, don't go postal on us now.

    i'm just having fun.

    barack fever...catch it!

it's going to be interesting to see how much "change" occurs with a candidate who professes to have all the answers combined with a democrat controlled congress and senate, liberal leaning courts. the man is gonna have all the dominoes lined up. all he's gotta do is knock them over.

there's is absolutely nothing that will stop them from curing all the ills of the country.

i just can't wait for all the magic to happen.

  3. Essential weapon of the left? Ummm who exactly has used the spector of hitler to riase the war cry in this country? Sadaam is Hitler on the rise the president of Iran is Hitler on the rise. Can't appease like chamberlin did etc... it goes on and on endlessly. OF course you won't agree with my position because you view the world differently, and that is a big part of my point.

i don't believe sadaam's body count matched 6 million, so that comparison really isn't valid. he's gone now anyway. the man was a complete amatuer and is probably being ridiculed in hell right now for being such an incompetent underacheiver. iran's leader is more talk than action at this point until he gets his bomb to erase the "stinking corpse" that is israel...his words, not mine. so he's more of a wannabe in a bad suit and constantly in need of a shave.

neville chamberlain just didn't have the right "we can do it" attitude that barack has. no, once barack takes office he's gonna go talk to our enemies to keep them from picking on us. i'm sure iran's leader is jonesing for some quality barack-time so he can be set straight and added to the obama christmas card list. i can't freakin' wait for other countries to start loving us again because barack is such a great guy.

i also can't wait for barack to begin "healing the broken souls of this nation" (michelle obama's words, not mine) he will bring this nation together. even those "typical white people" who "cling to guns and religion" will see the light. that's gonna be awesome.

people who's incomes are $250k or more will realize that they are making way too much money and will gladly fall in line too. obviously those rich bastards were a part of the generation that kept score in little league games and won real ribbons on field day in grade school. you know, the days before it was looked down on to actually achieve stuff. no the pre-PC generation just didn't know any better.

those $250k and up wage earners should be penalized even more since they aren't already contributing to our economy, employing people and contributing to charity, tithing to their churches...no, i'm sure they aren't doing any of that at all, but rather planning their second and third vacations, or buying another toyota prius. when will these capitalists learn? you can be sure barack will educate them and you can be sure that they are gonna thank him profusely for turning them in the right direction.

barack is such a smart guy, i mean...really, how does he know exactly what we need? the man has a gift and is so plugged in to each and every one of us. it makes me start to tear up...kind of like when i'm watching oprah...

i can't wait until november for all of my dreams to start coming true.

  4. Unless you're on the right and you equate liberals with German appeasement in WWII. :stunned

I don't think it really has anything to do with left or right or the Internet. It's an example of logical fallacy that's been around for thousands of years. It's called Appeal to Ridicule.

i'd prefer that politicians leave all the nazi stuff out of the discussion period. i don't care which side of the aisle they are on. there is no place for it.

  5. No, I don't think he was equating Fox with Hitler. I was mainly commenting on the fact that a Hitler reference and comparison was made. Hence, my remark about Godwin's Law.

hitler is an essential weapon in the left-wing arsenal vs. the right.

when in doubt, let adolph out.

  6. i like how some people take a quote from someone and just run with it.

    damn.

I do not for one minute believe that the truth always lies somewhere in the middle or that there needs to be balance to the news.

that's as far as i got before it started getting weird. starting the weekend early are we John?

It's the sheep following the Bush administration that gobbled up their propaganda....

"BAAA...BAAA...BARACK" said the sheep.....is just what I expected from the sheep. It's a wee bit funny at best, but not worth much. Something wonderful about this election is you will see people from all parties supporting Obama. One of the problems I have with some republicans is that they will blindly support the party despite what shit they pull. Just look at how people still support Bush to this day. Many will vote for Mcain despite the fact he is just like Bush..and really hard to look at.

Obama will win because people from all parties will support him for various reasons. Not just blind democratic herding. Some will say it is just because Bush and his compadres have sucked so bad that people will vote anyone in who is not a republican. Obama did not take his spot from Psycho woman so easily. We actually care who runs for the democratic party..unlike some other party.

I send this with much love though. :cheekkiss

well, i'm a voter without either a party or a candidate.

non-support of bush or mccain does not mean i should be in the obama camp. bush lost me for good after katrina and mccain was never someone i ever considered vote-worthy.

if mccain just assumes he's getting my support (or other conservative independents) that just makes an ass out of him. and it could make one out of me if when i flip my coin between a third party or his geriatric ass, it lands his way.

i really don't know what i'm going to do at this point.

oh, and Party @ the Moontower, you are alright with me regardless of politics.

  8. I thought it was funny how a lot of major news outlets tried to create controversy around Obama's new Fact Check site, saying "It will be interesting to see if they cherry pick which myths to debunk."

the truth always lies somewhere in the middle.

if i'm looking to debunk a myth about someone, the last place i would look is on their own website for the answer.

  9. With that said, Fox News is the pinnacle, the commandant of this unfortunate trend. Mere trash peddlers passing off what is essentially conservative editorializing as journalism. It is no coincidence that Fox viewers are consistently less informed than folks who get their information elsewhere, from multiple sources.

    And though I

  10. dude. MSNB cant touch Faux News in terms of bullshit and/or bias and Keith Olberman could never come close to Neil Cavuto, Sean Hannity, Bill O Reilly, and John Gibson in douchebagginess.

    in your opinion.

keith olbermann is the definition of an a-hole. those on fox are least laughable, keith seems to be inviting an ass kicking.

  11. Fox News is Fox News. If they didn't exist, where would all the anger on the left be focused (other than the bush administration...or talk radio)?. it's a theraputic punching bag.

MSNBC is the biggest joke of a network on cable imo. talk about biased, holy hell do they have that cornered.

and keith olbermann is the biggest douchebag on tv.

  12. Let's impeach Bush and Cheney while we are at it. I understand Kucinich gave a great speech last night regarding this. Fuck it that Bush/Cheney is nearly over, let's impeach them once they are out of office if not now. It is possible and would do the US of A a world of good.

    LouieB

as tempting as that would be, i'd rather they spend their time on something more worthwhile...like increasing the oil supply. yeah, let's start there.

  13. I think Obama has been painted as a far-left wacko, and McCain as a "maverick" moderate. I'm not convinced either label is anything but a cartoonish reduction. Here's an interesting link: Liberal-Conservative Rankings Done Right

"By this method, Obama is liberal, but not that liberal. He was the 21st most liberal senator in the 109th Congress and has been the 10th or 11th most liberal thus far in the 110th. The surprising result is John McCain, who rates as the 8th most conservative senator in the 110th Congress, the 2nd most conservative in the 109th, and the 5th or 6th most conservative in the 108th."

obama is obama. God bless him, i think he means well. i just see things differently.

mccain has a pattern of betraying his own party. i guess that's were he gets the "maverick" label...is that supposed to be some kind of badge of honor? because i'm not impressed. he comes across as arrogant and indifferent to those who disagree with him and i would rather buy barack a drink and hang out with him than i would mr. mccain. that's just how i feel.

but on election day, my fondness for the personality that is barack obama would have to end as political reality sets in. i probably won't eat before i vote because i'll be pretty nauseous in the booth while pushing the "mccain" button.

  14. But you did say that evangelicals who are not socially conservative are at best unserious about their faith, and perhaps are fraudulent "evangelicals," deserving of your judgmental quotation marks.

i meant it in regards to falling under the "evangelical" label.

I guess I'm still not understanding why your given definition of evangelical--a definition that I subscribe to--must lead, without exception, to social conservatism. How does believing in the inerrancy of the Bible make voting for Obama impossible?

are you trying to bait me? because i'm not taking it.

How does believing in salvation through regeneration make voting for Obama impossible? How does believing in a spiritually transformed personal life make voting for Obama impossible? How, exactly, does your stated definition of evangelical also require a specific, non-negotiable political platform? That definition explains what an evangelical is, but I don't see anything in there that explains how evangelicalism ought to manifest itself politically.

    still not taking the bait.

Even though evangelicals are typically social conservatives, I don't see why that means the majority is automatically correct in translating their faith into a conservative philosophy, or why an evangelical with different political priorities should be seen as "not serious" about their evangelical faith. In fact, it's reasonable to argue that the reverse might be true: Anyone who supports the neo-conservative agenda must not take their evangelical status, nor the Bible, very seriously.

    nope, can't do it.

I know you are serious about your religious and political journeys, UW, so I'm not trying to pick a fight... it's just an interesting discussion to me, primarily because it took me many years to confront the political assumptions of my youth. It's a topic that feels close to home.

Beltman, i have nothing but respect for you and once upon a time, i may have been eager to take on such a debate, but i think i'm losing the urge to do so. i'm mellowing out on these types of discussions which always seem to gravitate towards something i'm not comfortable with. i respect the differences and would rather focus on the common ground we have in faith. especially when it's mixed with politics.

what an unholy mix that is.
