  1. Re: Healthy White Baby, you are correct! That was a fun time. :thumbup

And I'm not sure if the Aussie/NZ act you're referring to was The Mess Hall, but they opened a few shows at some point. I thought they were just a two-man outfit (guitar and drums), but perhaps they also had a bass player with them.

That was the show I fell in love with the band :wub

    (in the key of C)

And bingo on The Mess Hall. I still remember that I needed to plug my ears due to the sound level and the lack of actual music. Those were the guys that took pics of themselves next to the show poster outside the theatre :lol

  2.

*Healthy White Baby (Danny Black/Laurie Stirratt/etc....I miss those guys!)

I think they opened for Wilco in New Orleans that spring, correct?

The worst opener was that band from either Australia or NZ that played the STL show in 2006 I think. God they were AWFUL. 3 pieces of imperfect noise.

  3. I am optimistic for the conference finals though the beginning will be a little rocky.

Boy am I prescient or what? 6-5-1 after the first 12 games. Campbell, Hossa out, and now Bolland not playing tonight and probably heading to an extended absence. Ouch.

  4. The history of Don and Anna's relationship was fraught with karmic undertones. She left the ring for him. All the pieces fell together like a mandala.

I'm still watching back episodes -- only started watching it last year. I HAVE A LOT TO LEARN!

  5. I felt uncharacteristically optimistic for Don's development. The scene with Betty in the kitchen was a perfect bit of closure. Drinking expensive liquor out of a cheap glass in the empty house they once shared.

Then leaving the kitchen out of separate doors at the same moment. Poetry in motion.

He does seem to be having a bit of an.... epiphany doesn't he? He really does believe that Meghan is the answer for him, yet Peggy and Joan were deriding him and his decision to "marry his secretary" and Peggy especially unappreciative of the moment when Don thanked her. Although that felt really honest to me -- am I also snowed under by his charm??

  6. Good Lord, I just checked out the weekend's schedule and saw the GLENN FREY AND JOE WALSH are headlining Saturday night! What are the chances that the Wilcos stick around for another evening and join the former Eagles for a rousing and crowd-pleasing version of "Hotel California Arizona"? :yucky

    Fixed it for you :shifty

Probably very low, though that should be the song they play together.

  7. I think I'd be fine with Peggy going to a Dylan show, but I'd probably draw the line at her meeting him backstage with Pennebaker filming their interaction. It's not such a fine line between tasteful and Forrest Gump.

I think it would be pretty forced, though it would be funny if she moves into the Chelsea and meets Edie Sedgewick. Or if she starts staying up all night all the time and ends up as a patient of Dr. Roberts. The possibilities are endless :lol

My only disappointment this season is the lack of Betty. She's been on, what, about 5 minutes?

  8. Peggy is going to turn to the dark side. Making out with strange bohemians in a closet, smoking weed, hanging out with lesbians. I can dig it. I've longed for Mad Men to get deeper into the 60's and see how they deal with the counterculture, Vietnam, etc, looks like it will become somewhat of a backdrop via Peggy for the forfeseeable future.

Just that last scene where she is by the elevators with her cool new pals and Campbell is standing in the lobby of their office with all of the straight guys is very telling. They are going in different directions.

There is of course more to that scene than that, but this is what struck me.

  9. It's all part of the master plan. $2.75M for a goalie who has not played a full season so close to the cap is not smart. They didn't want to lose Bolland or Sharp. Turco (veteran goalie who turned down more $$ to play in Philly) at less than half the price makes far better sense.

Niemi likely will not be signed at that price; at least not by any team in the NHL. KHL maybe. Zito did a real bad thing to him -- he has a big tag on him and not many teams left to turn to in a year where goalies are going cheap.
