  1. "Down w/ Wilco" is NOT better than "AM". Gimme a break.

    This thread is a joke.

This isn't a definitive thing from on high. I'm not putting my opinions on you or on anyone else for that matter. Just like I'm not mad at you for thinking that AM is superior to Down With Wilco. Get it?

  2. Well yes, of course it's apples and oranges. But even as a fan you can still look at an artist's albums and judge for yourself what each means to you, right? Of course, we all will never agree on where the band's albums rank to each of us or what tracks mean more to us, but there's no reason for all of us to agree on everything all of the time.

  3. Thank you all very much!

A feature on the band's catalog will be up tonight or tomorrow on the site, too. Then an album review and a film feature on the band's three DVDs (Man in the Sand, IATTBYH, and Sunken Treasure).

And that, aside from a live review and that interview with Jeff I've been trying to get for years, should be it for Wilco.

    for this year, that is.

  4. I know Jay and he has no interest in coming back, nor should he. That phase of the band, no matter how great it was, is just over. Sorry you don't like the new album, buddy, but the band is a constant evolving beast...get used to it. It's Jeff's band, pure and simple.

  5. Greg Kot discusses Wilco on Static Multimedia

I've known Greg for awhile (not saying we're BFFs or anything) and he was nice enough to take time out of his busy schedule not once, but twice (my recording device picked up nothing of what we said on the first conversation). In a perfect world, I would have liked to combine some of the stuff I got on the first go round with what I did get the second time. But it's the way it is.

I hope you guys enjoy reading this. Thank you in advance.

  6. My ear for such things isn't nearly as developed as some people's here, I'm afraid. I know that there are specific parts that can't be anyone but Nels, but the intermingling of he and Jeff is harder to distinguish for me. Thank you all for the input.

  7. I keep wanting to phrase this so I'm not insulting anyone, so please no one take offense to this because I don't mean any, but how does anyone know for sure who is playing what specifically re: guitar parts?

And if a Marquee Moon reference is going to be tossed around, it should probably be used towards Jeff and Pat's guitar line in the I.G. breakout

I was specifically referring to the crescendo and twinkling piano/guitar bit of it. Marquee Moon falls out in a similar fashion. The guitar "duel" in that song you mention is close to that as well, I would agree with you.

Do you mean the 3 minute mark, or the really cool guitar solo around 1:30 - which I'm pretty convinced is Tweedy.

Yes. around 1:30 is accurate...I noticed I was wrong on this part today while listening to the album again...I'll be amending that.

and for all of the nice comments and positive feedback (all of the postings would fall under these two categories), I really want to say thank you. Thanks also just for reading it.

  8. Jesus, Etc was, in fact, the last song written for the album. Notice how different the vibe is from the rest of the album. It could almost fit on "Sky Blue Sky"

  9. Yeah, this one does indeed flow very well. It's actually the band's most complete album thematically. It's closest relative would be Summerteeth. It's really mellow and not as dissonant as their last two were, so I think by taking a sharp right curve, the band has left some scratching their heads here. I think people were all ready to accept something on the level of YHF or AGIB, but this is something sweeter, more "spring-like" and 70s pop than perhaps anyone had expected. It reminds me a lot of the stuff that John and Pat do in The Autumn Defense, quite frankly. There's really no angst to the songwriting or the singing by Jeff, either. Which is another surprise.

  10. I'm including stuff that they had a large hand in shaping as well
