  1. Any time you can head up to the mountains, do so. It can get pretty baking hot in the city (not humid, per se, but just lethargic hot).

I'd get a State Parks pass (around $70 I believe):

Definitely head up to Rocky Mountain National park for the day (or you can camp out up there if that's your thing). Head up to Estes Park and there's an entrance to it from there. Gorgeous sites/views, lots of wildlife, and better temperatures.

Mt. Evans is a nice drive, too. Accessible through Idaho Springs area.

Cherry Creek State Park is nice for the day, too. A decent place to swim/boat and it's local. They also have an off-leash dog-park area (over 160 acres) where you can hike around and even let the dogs swim.

The City Park Jazz series does free Sunday night concerts and offer great food deals, too. Right on a man-made lake and family friendly (though there have been gang-related issues of late. It's apparently being dealt with, though). Bring a bottle of wine if that's your thing, too.

Red Rocks does movie/band combination nights in the evenings throughout the summer that are fun, too.

NedFest (in the small hippie enclave of Nederland, just 45 minutes or so west of Denver) is always a blast, too. Very laid back, great setting, great beer. This year's line-up, so far:

    http://www.nedfest.com/

A Rockies game is always fun, too. Nice mountain views in the background and decent food for a ballbark.

Pick up a Westword for festivals and events both in Denver and in mountain towns. There are tons of them and well worth the drive, usually.

Thanks LC. Definitely going to hit themountains as much as possible. I've got a rockies game which i liked and will check out the City park Jazz thing. may be going to Vail this weekend for a little camping and a little home cooking from the Dirty Dozen brass band. Thanks again...

  2. This year it's all local vacations:

Up to Winter Park for a week starting Saturday. My old man and step-mom fly in from VT.

Lake Dillon (about an hour west of Denver) towards the end of July. We rent a nice, enormous house out there each summer and my wife's sister, brother-in-law and their kids drive out from San Diego. Always a huge blast. They're freaks, after all.

The Lyons, CO Folk's Fest in mid-August. Camping out, great tunes, great beer, great friends.

Wife and I will be heading to grayton beach FLA in Aug. Big trip witht eh fam...lots of fun. Lammy, any must does for a person new to Denver would be greatly appreciated. lake Dillon sounds great as does that folk fest. Got my tix for the sat filmore show too.

  3. Sounds great. Thanks. Looking forward to catching them at the Fillmore. How is the parking. Lot of the venues on Colfax don't look to have much of it?

  4. So it looks like my first real show in Denver proper will be 2 nights of bliss at the filmore. Any Denverites have an opinion on the venue? Doesn't look like there is a pre-sale. Can't wait...

PS...literally can't wait. Now it looks like I'm going to fly to see the Berkley show too! Not only that, but may go play Spyglass that morning!

    :dancing

  5. Thanks, Jules. I'll make sure about the dual DVR but I'm pretty sure that's what they're going to be getting. I got a 32" Panasonic LCD. Thankfully we couldn't go too nuts with the size because we wanted it to fit in our existing Mission style TV cabinet. The 32" barely fits (we bought it last night). Even normal TV looks phenomenal on it.

Jen...can you point me in the direction of info on trading up with comcast. I got the HD DVR Tuner etc when i moved out here 2 months ago...and it was seperate units. i wouldn't mind looking into trading up for the new version. BTW...I was a first generation TV user to, and i am a big fan of the Comcast DVR...

  6. Thanks. It's weird hearing that from an LSU fan. :)

You guys should be tough next year. LSU had no problem coming into Baum this year and killing the Razorbacks.

I've never had a problem with Ark. Nice folks and a classy program Hate to see whats Happening to Houston right now. Don't know the details, just doesn't seem like the kind of guy who would cheat on his wife. I've always liked Broyles alot too.

Right now we've got a great recruiting class and Maneiri is an amazing coach. Really looking forward good things in the near future.

Anyway, i'd love to see Ark and vandy in Omaha, and I'm hoping State upsets down at FSU. On the other side, I'll be rooting for every team but Ole Miss in Oxford, and Bama is not even in a regional and I'm rooting for them to lose!

    Pig Sooie....

  7. Congrats Jen...Glad the rain held off. Our ceremony went off smoothely itself, and everyone had a blast. Must admit I feel pretty lazy though after reading your honeymoon report....

food was amazing...i could live off the fish tacos and slaw, as long as you threw a rita or pacifico in there for good measure

I think I came close to breaking some kind of Margarita record on Tue.

Played a really great nicklaus course on Wed and witnessed my wife, who has played exactly 0.5 rounds of golf in her life, knock it tight on a par 3. That was the highlight of the round for me, and I shot pretty well.

Spent a combined 5 hours in the spa over two days during the trip (first time in a spa...got to admit, not that bad).

We did go for a drive through the desert to Santiago. Cool to see a real oasis. I dove off a waterfall (Sol de mayo) for the first time. Ate at this great local joint and won, or lost depending on how you look at it, a bet eating serrano chiles. Breathing fire all the way back..

Gave my rita record a run for its money on Saturday, did some snorkeling first though.

Surfed some Sunday morning and we got depressed about leaving...

tried to lose my passport Monday morning, but to no avail.

    Congrats to you two.

    05/19/07 represent!

  8. PigSooie...I'm rooting for you guys and Vandy.

It hurt really bad not seeing my LSU Tigers in the SEC tourney this year. They fell apart down the stretch, but I really feel Maineri will have LSU back on top in a couple of years.

Man I love college baseball. I had the pleasure of witnessing one of the all time greatest moments in Omaha, when Warren Morris took that first pitch, 2 outs. bottom of the ninth fastball deep over the right field wall. I was in a huge section of LSU fans on the first base line and it was like white noise for a solid 30 seconds.

    Goose Bumps!

Anyway...my favorite time of the year. Good Luck to everyone!

  9. Just moved to Denver 2 months ago and saw that he was playing Red Rocks just the other day. Is he saying when he's expectiong be back playing? I was pretty excited about that until I saw that MMJ is opening for Dylan there in July!

  10. And same to you, Will!

I'm not so much stressed (although it is pouring buckets of rain right now and isn't looking good for the outdoor ceremony this weekend), but I'm just very tired. So many details to take care of....so many things to double and triple check.....I think I've mentally checked out at this point.

So we'll both have a great time and enjoy the food and music and family and friends, and then get the f out of Dodge for some R&R. :thumbup

    -Jen

Hear you on the exhaustion. Hope the weather cooperates for you and werd them up on that R&R!

  11. Hope everything is going well for you Peel. Fiancee and I were laughing last night about how un-stressed we were. Sure something will will pop up, but I think everything is as ready as it can be. Hope you have a very special day!

    All the best...

    Will

  12. I was there and I must admit I was somewhat disappointed. I thought the show was a little slow at times, not just because the songs were played acoustically but because it just wasn't happening. The new Patterson songs are pretty weak at this early stage so it may be something else better later but I found myself diggin' the usual Cooley stuff and not any of the Patterson stuff. I think the stripped down format showed the DBT are a great rock band but not much else, without the huge wall of electric guitars they lacked their usual power. After about 10 songs I was ready to leave but I stayed and found myself getting very bored and tired by the end. By the encore I was watching the show from the flat panel TV's in the lobby bar, by the 2nd song of the encore I bailed opting to grab a sub at Jimmy Johns up the street.

I hate to admit it but the DBT lack something without Isbell. For what ever reason they always have Cooley's guitar turned down too low and John Neff can't deliver a solo like Jason could. IMO that was a big reason it seemed like the band lacked punch. As usual the Cooley songs were great but like I said before some of the Patterson stuff wasn't changed enough to make an acoustic version sizzle, Sinkhole was anemic. Some drastic rearrangements may have made the songs fare better in the acoustic format but it's hard to say. I wish I would have liked the show more because I had high expectations.

The DBT should stick to what they do best, rock, and maybe do a few acoustic songs here and there in their set, like they do on their albums. I didn't feel like they could keep me interested with just an acoustic guitar, like Tweedy can. Given that Patterson and Neff used some sort of stomp box boost for a few solos, a-la Nrivana unplugged, tells me they may not be comfortable in that format either.

The biggest joke of the evening was the opening act, that guy should be a SNL character called Singer Songwriter Cliche Man because he used every one known to man in every song he played, effin' terrible.

To each his own. I can agree with you on that opener....I found myself thinking I wasn't in on the joke or something at times.

  13. Dead tired but I wanted to post the set list. Found this on the interweb, but I can't think of anything that was left out.

  14. Great poster!

I have no tips for you about the logistics of attending this show, I just wanted to add my 2 cents about how much I wanted to see one of these acoustic shows in "The Dirt Underneath" tour. I have listened to some cuts from one of the earlier shows*, and what I hear is phenomenal. I mean, a toned-down acoustic DBTs? I sure hope they continue offering up some acoustic songs in their regular DBT rock shows once in a while. Don't get me wrong, I love the rock shows, but knocking it down a notch or two for a few songs would be a breath of fresh air for my ears.

cwnorman, have a great time and I'm looking forward to hearing about it, so please report back, k? :wave

I'll definitely be posting a report tomorrow. I have been looking forward to this for quite some time. From what I've read over at nine bullets there are even some fans who wouldn't mind seeing them stay on this path. I'm not sure about all that, but I do know I'm in for a treat.

  15. PS....

Thank you very much. Really excited about this show. DBT are one of my favorites and the word on the street is these shows are stellar.

    Two words for you....Cooley...Banjo!

    Make that six:

    Cooley...Banjo Shonna...Stand Up Base!

Thanks again for the help. Gonna do my best to get there around 4 so I should have plenty of time to check out Pearl Street, some Brewerys and a record shop or two!

  17. New to Denver and this will be my first show in CO, and my first trip up to Boulder. As long as I get everything down before noon Saturday, I'm going to try to get up there early and check out the town. Any ideas of places to check out, eat, drink before the show would be appreciated.

Any idea on what time the doors open?

My fiancee is on call Friday night, but I'm goin to do my best to get her up there. If not, I will have an extra if anyone is interested. Believe it's sold out.

  18. Thanks! Picked up the 180G of Being There.

    Now I have:

    YHF

    AGIB

    BT

    SBS (Pre-ordered)

I know this might sound silly to some, but I have 2 Numark TTX1's turntables and a Numark PPD01 Mixer and we have little Wilco parties at our house, blending songs together, fading songs like a radio station or something... etc. It's a lot of fun and the vinyl sounds amazing! Of course, I mainly listen to the vinyl albums straight through with my Grado's (I'm an album snob in that way), but it is a lot of fun to "mix" Wilco together with people over. If I could just get "Passenger Side" in the mix now, we'd have ourselves a regular party 'round here. :cheers

    No problem....

  19. BT 180 here...

    Accoustic Sounds

good luck with Summer Teeth. You can probably find AM.

Simply vinyl is another good one. Ive never seen march or weird tales

    Oh and I have:

    BT

    YHF

    AGIB

    Down with Wilco

    Mermaid Ave 1

    Loose Fur

    Born Again
