yeah i hope the tape surfaces. some really hilarious one liners last night...
All recordings eventually surface. I know the taper. He mentioned uploading it to Etree, but would rather wait for the VC tracker to be fixed and upload it here.
-
I spotted a taper at the ATL show on the main floor in the back middle row. I believe he used a stand. His response to my asking if the show would be posted somewhere was that it would never be posted because it was horrible.
Apparently the acoustics of the Tabernacle sucked and he seemed highly pissed for some reason. He said it was the "worst of the tour". I assume he meant the taping aspect because I thought the show was great.
Hopefully there other tapers in the balcony.
I saw that guy too. He was upset at a couple who spilled a beer on and knocked over his deck while cutting through an area that was not supposed to be walked through (between the last row and the SBD) in an effort to get out of the venue during the last song. He did not think it was the worst show of the tour (actually it was a very good performance and setlist), just the worst sounding venue from the few he had seen. He said it would be put up on the VC tracker.

you can get the 'cricket boxes' like Glenn uses in any Chinatown storefront usually next to the Chinese sandals - they are very cheap
you might as well pick up a Peking duck too

Wonderful night. Great venue, very cool security and staff (their shirts all read "Serenity" on the front..LOL)
Not to mention the sound was incredible! Just perfect.

If someone wanted to put their money where their mouth is MKH where would one start? Any websites you could recommend would be helpful.

this is a great forum with tons of info - whether you record shows or not

Hmmm... How about we let the tapers and the band take care of recording and taping policies - sounds like a good plan to me. 'Mountain Bed' if the tapers ever hire a lobbyist - it certainly will not be a someone who wants "omnidirectional mics up on stands" in a 'taper's section' (that recording would sound like crap). Wilco's taping policy works and by the quality of the recordings - it works very well. If you desire more tapers so recordings get uploaded to VC faster - then I would suggest you invest your $ in some gear and start taping yourself. To have a non-taper making these suggestions makes me laugh.
This is a weak thread - please let it die.

I prefer to tape from my seat.

From Pilcher's "September"
Death is nothing at all. It does not count. I have only slipped away into the next room. Nothing has happened. Everything remains as it was. I am I and you are you and the old life we lived so fondly together is untouched and unchanged. Whatever we were to each other that we are still. Call me by the old familiar name. Speak of me in the easy way you always have used. Put no difference in your tone. Wear no forced air of solemnity or sorrow. Laugh as we always laughed at silly little jokes that we enjoyed together. Play, smile, think of me, pray for me, let my name forever be the household word that it always was. Let it be spoken without the ghost of a shadow upon it. Life means all it ever meant. It is the same as it was. There is absolute and unbroken continuity. What is death but negligible accident? Why should I be out of mind because I am out of sight? I am but waiting for you for an interval, somewhere very near, just around the corner. All is well.

A good two-part banter that sticks out in my head (because I was laughing)...
It was during one of the two Fillmore shows this past January. A couple in the front row was asking Jeff to attend their upcoming wedding. After not accepting they started to sweeten the pot by yelling out that they would cover his airfare. Jeff replied something like 'I don't need you to buy me a ticket - I got money coming out of my ass'...
Later in the night, Jeff was telling his Ameoba Records story (which was well detailed on this board in Feb). When he got to the part in that story about not wanting to take a cab back to Ameoba (having walked earlier). Claiming the cab ride would cost more than the CD he was missing.... right on cue ....the same guy who was asking Jeff to attend the wedding yells out "I thought you had money coming out of your ass?"
The place roared. Jeff had a few more lines, but timing is everything and this guy 'killed'.
I recorded that night and would be happy to supply these bits to this project (another copy was circulated on bt.etree)

scored a single ticket at 10:19
-
i too got shut out right at 10am
and for all who thought this was bad - wait until tomorrow. tickets.com will f*** this up. they did the tickets sales for the flaming lips two shows at the webster in nyc a few months back. what a mess. i remember reading on the lips board about people getting charged 6 times and getting 0 tickets and other horrific stories. apparently the tickets.com servers do not fair well in heavy traffic. at least music today tells you that you are 'out of luck' instantly. if i remember right i waited for 10 minutes trying to log on, then got on and secured a couple tickets only to have their end crash - sending me back to the end of the line (and then getting no tickets). luckily another friend scored and hooked me up.
best of luck to all with tickets.com

That is a lot of pressure David... LOL. I have been playing catch up at work - I travel for my job which does not leave me a lot of home computer time. I will dig into the Marfa recording this weekend. It should sound pretty good even though the venue was a garage. I am worried there might be wind noise - yes we were inside but it was cold and they kept the door open which caused a serious draft. Before the show it was about 50 degrees outside and by the end of the show it was in the low 30's....brrrrr. To combat my side location I used the Neumann AK50 capsules instead of my normal AK40's (hypers versus cardioid). Keep your fingers crossed.
