  1. awesome, awesome show. i'm starting to lose count of how many times i've seen Wilco, but it's easy for me to know that this was my second time seeing JT solo. and tonight (weather permitting - i live in Waterloo, and it's snowing like mad) will be my third.

the performance was really good, musically. Hummingbird and Poor Places as acoustic versions - so cool!

Thanks for requesting Magazine Called Sunset - that was a major highlight for me.

    Jeff's between-song (and sometimes in-song) antics/banter was pretty funny.

i can't add too much more than what has been said. personally, i liked the location of the venue, since i live west of Toronto, driving there was easy - i hate driving into downtown Toronto, so it was a bonus for me.

the opening act Snowblink was really good. Folks - don't show up late! Go see them! They have some magic in their band.

  2. For the love of Mike, someone please help me unscramble:

    LAFTUR

I'm generally good at jumbles - they usually jump out at me right away. But this one took me a while. But finally I DID get it....

    it is...

  3. Man, you can't do this to me. You can't tell me one of the best bands ever is releasing an album in 6 days. I need more time to prepare.

    don't worry, it's not 6 days.

    it's 5 days!!

yup, saturday minus monday = 5.

but seriously. this is amazing news. and my birthday is 3 days!

  4. Once again, this week, like last week I was teaching a class until 10:30. So I checked the presale, just in case there was something left (last week there wasn't - I had to buy from TM), and it came up row G. Pretty good, for half an hour late! So I bought them. Yay! Two nights in a row in Toronto!

  5. an interesting idea.. i don't usually go to shows alone, but maybe... i'll see if i can find someone in the next couple of days, before the onsale, and if i can't find anyone, i guess i'll just get one ticket.

  6. ok, i'll go!

next question. who do I go with? My girlfriend's going with me the first night, but she doesn't want to go two nights in a row. I'm sort of new to where I'm living so I don't have many friends yet (who have similar musical tastes to me). maybe it'd be weird, but is there anyone on here who wants to go to the 2nd Toronto show with me?

  7. man, another Toronto show! do I go? I live 90 minutes away, and I have to get up early the next morning. I'm already doing it once for the 22nd, but should I do it two days in a row? I'm leaning towards yes.. someone convince me (I'm easily convinced)!

  8. I pretty much feel the same way as you do, realrival. It's very good. I like every song. And it's a lot of fun. And "You and I" is probably my favourite on there. I wouldn't say I was disappointed with W(TA). And when I saw them for the W(TA) tour, somehow it was my favourite Wilco show that I've been to. So I really like where they're at now, even if I like their older songs a bit more than their newer songs. I feel that Wilco is far from past their prime, like a lot of people think, and I'm really excited for their next album.

  9. got 2 tix in centre orch row V.

i was contemplating giving them up to try again for something better on the balcony. but i thought "a bird in the hand...", since you just never know with onsales like this. so i just bought them. if anyone got some good balcony seats (first couple of rows) and wants to trade for some row V orch seats, let me know!

edit: that's for the toronto show.

  10. i'm really excited about this toronto show. I didn't get tix during the presale because i was teaching a class when they went on sale. when i got to it after class, they were all sold out. i'm crossing my fingers for something good for the TM onsale.

  11. First Wilco show I saw was just not to long ago in London Ontario. Unbelievable that I had not seen them before. Great show. Question so I don't miss out is how do the pre sales work usually. I have been to 100s of shows And realize each band is different Can not wait for this Toronto show Seeing chris cornell acoustic in the same theatre Really appreciate any help.

    Take it easy

awesome! i was thinking of going to that show. last minute, the day of... i was trying to get someone to go with me. but it was a weeknight, i couldn't find anyone to go with, AND the roads weren't too good that day (lots of snow or maybe even freezing rain). i hadn't planned to go, because i had already seen them a week before in edmonton. but since the edmonton show was so awesome, it made me want to see them again. i didn't end up going to that london show, but i have seen them around 5 times over the last few years, so it's not a big deal. plus, i'm sure i'll see them again soon enough, and i WILL see Jeff solo really soon! so all is well. :)

and incidentally, i'll be going to see Chris Cornell too, but in Edmonton. you see, I live in Ontario, but my family's in Edmonton, so i visit there often (i.e., it's my other home).

  12. ok, the dates are back up on wilcoworld. phew!

still not too much info.. clicking on "info" next to the dates doesn't do anything. oh well, i'm sure we'll have ticket info etc soon enough!

awesome! i'm going to the toronto one for sure! i haven't been around on this board too much lately... lurking a bit every once in a while.. but anyway, "hi, everybody!" i first joined this board in 2005ish, and i was thinking of going to see JT solo in Calgary. i asked some people here "i have never seen Wilco or JT - is it worth the drive for JT solo?" (i was coming from Edmonton - 3 hrs away), and people were like "yeah - Wilco play everywhere all of the time. you'll have many chances to see Wilco - but Jeff doesn't do THAT many solo shows. this is a rare chance!" i forget who it was, but that's what they said. so i went. it was awesome. a bit short (festival), but awesome. whoever it was who was telling me that - you were totally right. Now, 5 or 6 full Wilco shows later, i'm pretty excited i'll get to see Jeff solo again! and in a nice sit-down theatre.

  14. I got into Wilco in late 2004/early 2005. The first chance i had for any sort of live experience was a Jeff solo show at Calgary folk fest in June of 2005. I remember talking about it on this board and people saying "GO to this show - Wilco shows will come, but the Tweedy solo shows are a lot more rare". so yeah - i took their advice and they were so right! That's the only time i've seen a Jeff Tweedy solo show, but i've seen Wilco a bunch of times since then. so here's my list..

    2005:

June, Jeff Tweedy Solo at Calgary Folk Fest

    2006:

    June, Edmonton, Northern Jubilee Auditorium

    2007:

August, Calgary, Southern Jubilee Auditorium + SOUNDCHECK!

    August, Edmonton, Northern Jubilee Auditorium

    2008:

December, Toronto, opening for Neil Young

    2010:

    February, Edmonton, Northern Jubilee Auditorium

So it's something like 6 times, counting the opening slot and the soundcheck as half each(?)

I'm in Waterloo Ontario right now, and they're playing in London (about a 90 minute drive away) tonight. i am really considering going, but I don't think I can afford the time. i have so much work to do tonight and tomorrow. sigh. but i really want to. Last week's show in Edmonton was probably the best one I've seen.

  15. Shot in the Arm - Mikael pounding on the keys with a cushion!

Hate it here - Jeff holding his guitar by the strings as one had broken with the impending sense of get me something else before my next part

Nels - amazing as always - the man needs a five foot safety radius around him so as to not take anyone else out in the process

Califone - we thought were awesome, despite some technical probs (amp conking out, strings breaking, etc...) They were also in charge of the merch table and were extremely friendly, especially after learning that it was my daughters first concert. (I couldn't imagine taking her to anything else). We bumped into one of them during a quick stretch break during Wilco's set, and he said to my daughter "Are you having fun?", which was met with a blank stare until she took her headphones off to hear him...

Despite not playing the song she requested (she had spent the whole day making them a sign out of paper and popsicle sticks saying how much she loved it in case they did) it was neat when Jeff mentioned that this was the 3rd time they played the Jube in Edmonton and that now we seem to bring 1/4 size fans back with us!

I'll try and post a setlist soon, not too many changes from Victoria I think.

Very sad now - have to wait another 2 years or so my my next live Wilco experience...

actually i think that was Walken. Yeah, I remember the big reddish hollow body hanging by his strings. and those rocky riffs being played on a telecaster in the second half of the song. yes, that was pretty awesome.

another thing about this show - i took my sister, and it was her first time seeing Wilco. she isn't a fan like me, but i told her she has to go. she was VERY impressed!

  16. The other encore song was Via Chicago, right after Broken Arrow.

Wilco the song was awesome. I thought it was a perfect start to the encore too. When they came back, before they played anything, Jeff said, "now you won't be able to get rid of us" (which met many cheers).

Wilco will love us, indeed! and we love Wilco!

and yeah, that was a weird version. To anyone who wasn't there, there was an interesting/weird thing during the end of that song, but Jeff said "We're still working on that... don't tell anyone in Calgary - shhhh". and there was a bit of a screw up with the weird thing too. I think i'll wait until a recording surfaces before going into detail, you know, keep it a surprise. or at least - i won't be the one to let the cat out of the bag.

  17. Remember the Mountain Bed

    Via Chicago

At Least That's What You Said

    How To Fight Loneliness

    Wilco (the song)

    Hummingbird

I Am Trying To Break Your Heart

    ^^ these were all granted!

    and these were not:

    You And I

    Either Way

    Far, Far Away

and also, a total surprise (another internet request, Jeff said), Summer Teeth!

  18. I went to the concert tonight and it was amazing. This was my 4th time seeing a proper Wilco concert, and it may have been the best. Really good song selection, and sound quality, and energy. Jeff was his usual funny self. I didn't write anything down, but I'm sure someone will post the setlist soon. Setlist was a lot of the usual songs, plus some not-as-usual songs (at least in my experience).

    personal highlights:

Remember The Mountain Bed (Jeff mentioned it had been requested it on the website, and I actually requested it!),

SUMMERTEETH (another internet request according to Jeff),

    How To Fight Loneliness,

Broken Arrow - I saw the youtube clips, but being there in person for that is just a whole different thing. What an amazing experience. After that song, Jeff said something like "since it's president's day in the U.S., we thought we'd play that song for you by the president of Canada." and when very few people responded (i thought it was hilarious), he said "come on, you DO know that song, right?" (lots of cheering). "you BETTER!" it was awesome. Such a wonderful cover of a wonderful song. You can tell they love it.

Bull Black Nova - was INTENSE live. I liked it on the album, and I LOVED it live.

they opened with Sunken Treasure, which was very cool (my first time hearing it live).

I was surprised that they did only one encore - i thought they usually do two (i might be wrong though). But they still played for about 2 hours and 20 minutes, from start to finish, so I don't know - i'm definitely not complaining, only a little surprised. i was surprised at a few songs they DIDN'T play - heavy metal drummer and spiders, especially. but that's definitely ok with me, having seen these songs a few times. and i would have liked "You and I", but i'm not complaining.

this band is so awesome live, and SO good to its fans. huge kudos to Wilco - you rocked Edmonton tonight. and we loved it.
