  1. let me just add my thanks for this!!! don't have enough space on my hard drive for all of it plus extra space for burning (down to my last 1.5 GB), so i'm downloading each disc, burning it, then deleting. i've burned 2/3 so far. gonna be nice to listen to it all. thank you owl!!

  2. it's not the band i hate, it's their fans...

sorry, someone had to do it.

    :lol good one.

i'll be seeing them in edmonton with the police... not a fan, but having lived in halifax, i've seen them 3 times already (back in the late 90s). i'll be interested in their set. maybe they'll play coax me and underwhelmed!!

  3. well, being a canadian, ordering it from the store would cost me around $30 CAD when all is said and done... but i found it on amazon for $16.99, so i'll have to wait a while, but i'm getting it... can't wait!! ok i *can* wait, but you know what i mean!!! i'm already able to listen to the album thanks to wilcoworld, so it's not a huge deal for me to wait to get the cd/dvd. wilco is awesome :)

  4. Awesome. I think that was me. Makes you wonder what he's doing spending so much time in the Chili Peppers. My guess would be to play with Flea.

Anyway, yeah the golden era of the YSI exchanges was great. Those single artist mixes got me into a couple bands I otherwise wouldn't have--Drag the River and Yo La Tengo. So big ups to whoever posted those.

yup it was you! i realize now i actually still have the mix with the songs... you see, i thought i had deleted the songs that i have since bought so i wouldn't have been able to find the mix because the identifying songs would have be missing, but nope... they're still there in my folder called "RufeMixer"... the tracklist is:

    1. Around the Corner--The Evens

    2. Ballad of the Sin Eater--Ted Leo & the Pharmacists

    3. The Sides--Ataxia

    4. Big Boys (Demo)--Elvis Costello

    5. From Her Lips to God's Ears (The Energizer)--Against Me!

    6. A New England--Billy Bragg

    7. Wishing--John Frusciante

    8. You Are Invited--Dismemberment Plan

    9. Moonpies for Misfits--Hot Water Music

    10. Checking Out--Langhorne Slim

and the date from that folder is last modified in sept of 2005. so 1.5 years ago.

thanks for that mix... it wasn't just the JF stuff that I liked, but that's definitely what I like most!

yeah, he always says he loves Flea more than anyone in the world, so... but i quite enjoy his solo stuff much more than his RHCP stuff... and I think his collaborations with Josh Klinghoffer are just awesome. everything... when Josh plays drums on his albums, when they're in Ataxia together, when they do "electronic" music like Sphere. Awesome. I LOVE John Frusciante's music.

So here's to you, Rufer... thank you SO much.

    :cheers

  5. I can't remember who it was!! but it was about 2 years ago, there was a mixtape exhange thread. i think it was the second one. i was paired up with someone who made a mix for me, which included two JF songs.. "wishing" and "the sides" (by ataxia). i loved those two songs right away, and have since become a huge fan.. i've got all his albums now... except AWII, which i'm waiting for in the mail, having ordered it already.

so.. don't remember who you are, but THANKS!! JF is now one of my absolute favourites. right up there with Neil Young and the like.

  6. how is this "semi secret" ?

I can't find a link from wilco's main page and i never got a wilcoworld email about it.

same here... i figure we'll get emails about it later today... i noticed with mailing lists, sometimes people get them at different times. i have no idea why, but that's just the way it goes.

either way, we found out about it, so it's all good, right?

    :music

  7. i checked my settings, i don't have my output volume too high... this doesn't happen with any of my other mp3s, only these ones..

now, it's not a typical "clipping" sound, actually, but there's a quiet sound present throughout everything which is not part of the music... like a really soft and low-pitched scraping sound. i can hear it really well in "thologians" around 43 seconds in.... the vocals sound distorted from it. and i re-downloaded from the complete zip file just to make sure it wasn't a problem that somehow happened when i downloaded/unzipped them, but it's still there! i know i'm not just hearing things, it's really there, and it makes it hard to listen to. this really isn't happening to anyone else? please just listen to the part at 43 seconds from theologians to see... that's where it's most pronounced, but i'm also hearing it throughout the whole thing (all the songs).

-and i compared with the dvd, and it's not there in the dvd.

so no one can confirm this is happening? it IS just me then?

  9. ok, so i got the mp3s, but there's a lot of clipping in them... i mean the sound quality... it's at a too high level or something... it gets distorted often. the sound is better on the dvd, and i don't just mean in the typical "mp3 is compressed" kind of way. is this happening to anyone else?

  10. well i'm getting the message that they're going to be posted shortly, but in the meantime, for anyone who's having trouble getting the .mov file to work, if you open quicktime first, and then click open file, and then navigate to the file on the dvd, it opens fine.
