  1. Strange list since its basically the same songs they play every night.

    Lonliness would be awesome though.

I'm not sure if its my show selection of what but I feel like I've heard mountain bed at every show i've been to in the last year

i heard it at the solo acoustic Jeff Tweedy show, but never the full Wilco playing it. And in the live recordings I've heard it's awesome. so... yeah, that's why I requested it.

    fingers crossed. one more day!

  2. cool!

I'm going to this show, and I requested Remember the Mountain Bed. After I submitted, it gave me the list, but that song was nowhere on the list. I'm hopeful now that I see it on the list (and at the top!). In my request comment, I also added "and please play Broken Arrow too!"

Looking at that list I'd love it if they played How to Fight Loneliness.

I've seen Wilco 4 or 5 times now, so I've heard most of the "regulars" by now.

and the reason I say 4 or 5 is because I am not sure how to count it.

in 2005 I saw Jeff Tweedy solo acoustic

in 2006 I saw Wilco - full concert

in 2007 I went to two full Wilco concerts, but I also won a prize which got me into their soundcheck, which was about an hour long, and they played songs that weren't played at the concert

in 2008 I saw Wilco opening for Neil Young

so how many times have I seen Wilco? 3 real shows, 1 opener, 1 soundcheck, and 1 solo acoustic gig.

Anyway, yeah - Remember the Mountain Bed would be awesome, as would How to Fight Loneliness. And Broken Arrow - so far they've played it at all the new shows so I hope they continue to do so.

oh and Far Far Away would also be awesome!

  3. Wilco Spinner Link

"Yeah, you can see the tie-in between Neil Young and Pet Sounds," says Kotche. "Everything that was happening [in 1967], you can see he was kind of in that same head space. Our whole angle with learning that was to do it as exact as possible. The intros, the little interludes, the ending tag -- I'm even doing the same fills. It's fun to play -- and challenging."

wow that sounds awesome - i wouldn't be surprised if one day Neil Young did a live version of this song with Wilco as his backing band.

  4. FINALLY (part of) a recording of Wilco's version of Broken Arrow...

there's a video at this link:

    http://purplewordsonagreybackground.blogspot.com/

the video starts with about 20 seconds of Wilco's song (audio only - they're showing other stuff during this part). it's the first video of the two on that link.

or here's the direct youtube link:

i really hope they play it on this tour!!

i'm seeing them next monday in Edmonton!

  5. ooh this is fun!

July 21, 2005 (Jeff Tweedy solo set) at Calgary Folk Fest, Calgary, AB

June 29, 2006 Northern Jubilee Auditorium, Edmonton, AB

August 17, 2007 Southern Jubilee Auditorium, Calgary, AB (the concert AND the soundcheck earlier in the day)

August 18, 2007 Northern Jubilee Auditorium, Edmonton, AB

December 4, 2008 Air Canada Centre, Toronto, ON (opening for Neil Young)

sometime in fall 2009 i hope!!

  6. no hidden path was the highlight of the electric set. really long. the solos were incredible. it sounded WAY better than the album version, which i already loved. it comes across pretty well on the Spokane recording, although somehow live the vocals sounded balanced better than it seems on the recording, but you can still get an idea. the band for the electric set was pretty tight. tigher than the modern day crazy horse. i felt like i was hearing/seeing the crazy horse of 1970ish. especially when they did EKTIN, Bad Fog of Lonliness, and Winterlong.

  7. wow. i went to the spokane show. wow. wow. sorry. that was just... wow. i can't believe how lucky i am to have been to that show. mellow my mind on the banjo, no one seems to know, a man needs a maid.. it's like the '76 tour all over again, except now i'm alive to experience it... i wasn't born until '82, so.... yes. wow. what a concert. ambulance blues. sad movies. everything. BETTER than the '76 setlists actually. and that's just the acoustic set. i wrote a long review on the rust list. this spokane show was the only one i could make, due to my mon-fri work schedule. but i wish i could go to more. it was amazing. i live in edmonton. the drive was 1000 miles each way. that is no exaggeration. we resest the odometer in edmonton, drove it all the way to spokane and back in one weekend, and when we pulled into the driveway in edmonton on sunday night, it said 2000.5. about 16 hrs each way. we *did* take the long way to stay on a divided highway over those mountains.. played it safe. the concert was perfect. it was more than worth it. not to mention the scenery in montana!!!

  8. wow i love this album. so good.

beautiful bluebird = sail away and out on the weekend - sounds just as GOOD too!!! nice work on the dobro (I think) by Ben Keith.

boxcar = i love banjo, this is really nice, especially the girl/train whistle "ooohs".. they got that lonesome whistle chord just right! might turn into my favourite eventually.

    OP = yup.

shining light = the way the guitar is strummed in this... the instrumentation, just perfect. sounds like a 50's song, and they pull it off just right.

the believer = modern day "cripple creek ferry". it's so cool how carefree the "i believe in you"'s and the "oh yeah"'s work together...

spirit road = i'm sure many people will disagree with me here, but it's one of my least favourite on this album. it's typical dirty, rocky Neil sound, but there's not much in the song here. the vocal melody is one note, pretty much. the guitar solos sound pretty good though. i'm sure it'll be great live.

dirty old man = i like it like i like piece of crap. but still, it's the other least favourite on the album. the "ooh! ahh!" backing vocals in the workout verse are hilarious though, and i guess the background vocals in general. my brother told me how great of an artist Neil Young is by how much his song "Piece Of Crap" sounds like a piece of crap! it's so true, and it's not even an insult. this song is pretty similar. sounds like a dirty old man. so yeah.. not a good song, but hilarious and perfectly executed.

ever after = may be my favourite. it sounds like it's straight off of american stars n' bars. Ben Keith weaves his magic on this track. i'm a sucker for pedal steel. i'm hearing "hey babe", "saddle up the palomino" and "the old country waltz". in this song. neil sounds youthful for the most part. i'm really happy with this song.

no hidden path = this one sounds like "down by the river"'s younger (or older) sibling. Ben Keith's rhythm guitar sounds just like Danny Whitten from the original Crazy Horse. i love this one. can't wait for this one live.

the way = beautiful song, beautiful melody, but.. kids singing? ugh.. well, i'm getting used to it, but i have hope that the live version will NOT feature kids, and it'll thus sound infinitely better. it's a great song, gretat instrumentation. but the kids... i don't know...

that said, i think this album is a keeper. probably the best since Broken Arrow or maybe Silver and Gold.

when i read who the musicians would be on this album i was very excited, because i love Ralph Molina's drumming style - he's my favourite drummer Neil has worked with, and (as you can tell) i think Ben Keith is the greatest sidekick ever!. the bass is the bass, nothing impressive, nothing that bothers me. nothing against Rick Rosas - the basslines are all very tasteful, i must say.

and I am going to be in Spokane for the concert on Saturday night and I CAN'T WAIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  9. update: i messed up the upload and had to add most of the soundcheck pictures last... well, i don't know how to reorganize on photobucket, so they are a bit out of order, chronologically. i think you see most of the calgary soundcheck first, then the edmonton concert, then the calgary concert, and then a couple more calgary soundcheck pictures.

  10. so here are all the pictures i took from the wilco concerts this past weekend. i also won a contest which allowed me to attend the soundcheck in calgary, so i have some pictures from those.

a lot of the pictures are a bit blurry, but there are some good ones too. i put everything up (good and bad) on my photobucket page. they are in opposite to chronological order. on the road between calgary and edmonton we saw richard swift in his van, so you'll see two pictures of him/his van. we were stopped at a light next to him in calgary, and i beeped the horn and showed him our tickets (he was driving), and he saw and gave a thumbs up.

    http://s118.photobucket.com/albums/o96/cosplusisin/

oh and at the calgary soundcheck they played about 8 songs, including either way (not played at the calgary concert) and shake it off (not played at either of the alberta concerts). 'twas really really really cool. Jeff made a comment to us contest winners during the soundcheck "i would have expected that we could have drawn a bigger crowd in calgary".

  11. So I won tickets to the calgary show after already buying some, so i'll be selling 2. they were $45 each, so now i'll make it $45 for the TWO of them, to make it like whoever is buying them is also winning with me! well anyway, i don't know what seats i'll get for the ones i won, so i'd like to keep the better ones. the ones i already bought are on the first balcony terrace row B. so if the ones i won are better than that, then these are the ones you'll be buying. if they're worse, you'll get those ones...

    thanks.

  12. ok, i sincerely apologize if this is not the place to do this, but my band, The Martingales, are playing a show the same night as the Wilco show in Edmonton. We're playing last, so we're going to start AFTER the Wilco concert finishes... I'm actually going to go to the Wilco show and then rush over to my own gig.

It's at the Velvet Underground on 100 ave and 102 st (downstairs from the Starlite Room). We're going to be on at around 11 or a bit later. The cover is $10.

    www.myspace.com/martingalesband

ok thanks. and i'm really sorry if this is annoying/spammy to anyone.

  13. i bought edmonton tickets on the presale and got them a while ago.

i bought my calgary tickets through ticketmaster and got them a while ago.

so i don't have any info about calgary presale tickets, but thought i might add this info anyway.

  14. I've got 3 tickets for the Edmonton show in row BBB (second row from the stage), right in the middle, seats 36-38. I got them from the presale, and they ended up costing me $150 CAD and some cents when all was said and done, so that's how much I'm selling them for.. that is - $50 each.

I would be going, but it turns out my band has been offered a gig on the same night. I'm a bit torn, but I've got to play.

And I don't feel TOO bad, because I'm going down to Calgary the night before (though my seats are not nearly as good).

But yeah.. if you're interested in these great seats, PM or email me. I am in Edmonton. Though, like I said, I will be in Calgary the night before, so if you're in Calgary, maybe I could meet you at the show.
