  1. The sound is excellent. If you don't like Summerteeth in general, though, you probably won't like the record.
  2. You can stream it at Drag City.
  3. Thanks for the information.
  4. It couldn't have happened more ironically to any other song on the album.

  6. Your negativity is ruining my fantasy about every reviewer in the world giving Funeral Singers a 10/10, making it the most highly rated record of all time, and making Califone the most popular band ever.
  7. Amen to that. I did send back the record, but I wanted to see if I could get it to work with various equipment tweaks. Hopefully when I get my much-cheaper (I had pre-ordered each record individually from Amazon) 3-pack from WilcoWorld in 6 weeks, everything will be great. Otherwise, I guess I'll just have to remember to crank up the anti-skate whenever I play "Can't Stand It." Thanks for all the input. I really appreciate it.
  8. Mine's 38 seconds and 900k. Are you sure they didn't accidentally give you a lossless file?
  9. Well, I cranked up the anti-skate to 11 and added extra weight to the arm, and that seems to have done the trick. It still skips, but it doesn't jump like it did before. Should I really have to do this, though? Max out the settings? Doesn't extra weight mess up the records? What about anti-skip? Louie, maybe you can fill me in.
  10. That the 1st song is odd seems to be the consensus. However, I do like that crunchy riff.
  11. I have to wonder if that's why there have been production delays.
  12. Amazon is pretty good about returns; I think that if something is truly defective, most big retailers won't try to deny you a replacement. I have to wonder, though, if some day Amazon will get out of the record-selling business—because there are people out there who really do expect their records to sound like CDs. I am all set up to return this Summerteeth and get a refund from Amazon. I just have to mail it back. I decided to order the AM/BT/ST bundle from Wilcoworld, which turns out to be a really good deal; I'm just going to have to wait 6 more weeks. By the way, my turntable's only
  13. I hear you, and I know that there can be/are often imperfections. This is beyond imperfection, though. When two different copies skip in the same exact place, it's a quality control issue, IMO. Plus, it makes the track totally unlistenable because the groove is fused. When it gets to that point, the needle jumps out of the groove and skips 30 seconds ahead. This happens twice on that track. Sigh. I guess I'll try to return it to Amazon again and order a replacement from Wilcoworld.
  14. I ordered the new Summerteeth LP from Amazon, only to discover that the 1st track skips right out of the package. I sent it back and got a new copy. The new copy skips in the exact same spot. I looked at it and there are no scratches whatsoever. However, upon closer examination, it looks like the left and right sides of the groove are fused together at the place where it skips. The entire rest of the album is fine. Bummer! Anyone else having similar problems? If not, does anyone want to trade for my extremely rare defective copy? I called WB today; I guess they're going to email me wit
  15. I can say with certainty that this album is amazing. Imagine the best elements of both Califone and Red Red Meat, and you have Funeral Singers.
  16. Incidentally, Tim tells me that 'Funeral Singers' will also be released as a double-LP. Should be lovely. I'm really, really looking forward to this, and have no idea what to expect.
  17. Rec'd this email today: You can download an album's worth of free MP3s here: http://www.pastrysharp.com/discography/downloads/ Sin Ropas are great, too. And really nice people. That the vinyl version of Fire Prizes is awesome, too.
  18. Sure, I'm biased, but this is going to be cool: Link
  19. Good question. Rummy's legacy is still being dealt with, but I can't imagine that it will approach the scale of destruction and death wrought by MacNamara in WWII and Vietnam. We'll see. Vietnam is a strange one, though. Yes, it was a Democrat-run war, yet liberals hate(d) it, and conservatives seem to wish we'd seen it through. I'm not sure that MacNamara gets any special consideration because the catastrophe was wrought by Democrats. Either way, it was horrendous. MacNamara was an interesting figure who provided a lot of insight and tried to repent toward the end of his life. I'm not so

  21. Here's May 25, 2002, thanks to CKC. http://www.owlandbear.com/2009/05/26/download-jay-bennett-and-edward-burch-may-5-2002/
  22. The loss of Jay Bennett is a big shock, and I want to say something about it on Owl and Bear. Since I host the Wilco Archive, I find I'm in a unique position to pay tribute to Jay through some of his live shows. However, I could use a little help. I'm looking to highlight some classic Wilco shows from Jay's era so that people can download and enjoy, but I'd like to have input from some Via Chicago members. Based on shows that are currently available on the Wilco Archive, what are your favorites?
