  1. So I bought some magnets to affix my new license plates onto my new(used) car because the bolt is snapped off in one of the holes and the other bolt refuses to come out of it's hole even with a shallacking of WD-40 and the strength of Zeus on a wrench, and you know what? License plates apparently are not made out of metal.

I don't know what the hell's going on in the prisons, but they're chintzing on the tags, man.

    "License Plate Material Change

As a trial, the Secretary of State's office

changed the material used for producing

Education License Plates from steel to

aluminum. This was the first plate to

undergo this change. Due to an

overwhelming response to the new material,

    the Secretary of State

  2. I drive by one of those 10 minute oil change places every day to and from work that has one of the light up signs you roll out to the street with the slide in letters.

All summer, the message was :

NOW WE HAVE 2 ENEMIES TO FIGHT

THE TERRORISTS AND THE NEW YORK TIMES!!!

He finally changed it a week or so ago, just after the latest UN affair. Now it says:

    HUGO CHAVEZ, GET THE HELL

    OUT OF MY COUNTRY!!!

good stuff. always gives me a chuckle on the ride home.

  3. I am representing a couple who are being sued for fraud and deceptive trade practices by an individual in connection with a home the guy bought from my clients.

One of the allegations in the lawsuit is that one of the 2nd floor bedrooms has an unlevel floor. My clients are alleged to have placed furniture in the bedroom in such a manner as to conceal the glaring unlevelness of the floor.

So I sent some requests for admissions to the other side, one of which was "admit or deny that the placement of furniture in a room does not significantly alter the height of the floor in that room" or something to that effect. Their response was that after a reasonable inquiry they were unable to admit or deny...

    :)

my house was built in 1860. there's not a level floor in the place. in my case, all our furniture is "placed in such a manner as to conceal the glaring unlevelness of the floor" :thumbup

(plus, a couple of strategically placed shims can do wonders)

  4. you started with what i think was the highlight of their career, musically and lyrically. although i love them all, IF I Should Fall From Grace would be the most poetic, Red Roses & Rum,Sodomy are both excellent drunken punk. I give Peace and Love and Hell's Ditch, followed by Waiting for Herb the least play these days. Since some of these are almost 20 or 20+ years old and i still listen to them says something.

i also still regularly watch Live from the Town & Country which i got for christmas almost 19 years ago. commentary by joe strummer & steve lilliwhite as well as joe playing "london calling" and lynval golding from the specials playing "a message to you" with the band. Saint Patrick's night show from 1988. Looks like you can get it on dvd these days.

  5. our entire office staff has kids. no one doesn't. it makes for a "cover each other" over different periods of parenhood and age groups. it's just understood that someone with a 5 or 6 or 7 year old is going to be late on the 1st day of school or at some point going to have to leave to pick up a sick kid. everyone has done that when their turn came and it makes for a great environment. as a small company, the flexibility is attractive.

but this has nothing to do with dope smoking so.... on that note

Saw your van on the sand and I don't understand

Tell me why you do it cause you understand

  7. Let's be clear, I don't think there's any law prohibiting companies from testing for alcohol.

    you are correct sir.

let's also be clear that in a small business environment, there are no insurance benefits realised by instituting a drug testing policy.

of the 3 big policies a company pays, (health, workers comp, & liability insurance) none of the premiums are based upon whether or not we drug test.

What's the $ amount on lost productivity due to excessive non-work-related internet usage?

    1.2 billion/year and that's on vc alone!!

  8. and if what employers really want to do is insure good health they'd hire based on genetics, whether or not you wash your hands every time you use the bathroom, whether or not you smoke, whether or not you engage in risky sexual behavior etc.

employers, me included, wouldn't drug test to promote good heath, they drug test to reduce liability insurance costs or because a client they have a contract with requires it. (or in the instance mentioned below)

in a small company with a small plan, there are no benefits or cost reduction on your health insurance for promoting well being.

we don't drug test, and since 66.66% of the ownership are pot smokers, i don't see it coming soon.

however, if one of my mechanics gets hurt and it becomes a workers comp claim, our carrier will ask for a tox screen when they send the guy to the approved heathcare place.

  9. i used to work for a construction equipment rental and sales company from 1985 to 1991. we had about 15 employees, maybe 20, and during that period we would go through 10 to 12 cases of beer a week. it was harder working there than keeping up in college.

productivity was typically measured in 12 ounce increments.

i always said that if i didn't leave there, i'd be dead.
