    new jams and POLVO

Hi there. Wanted to stop in and say things are going nicely here with new thing I am building. Also after some time there are some jams. We will see what is what but so far what is pretty wow. Anyway... ( oh and HSunshine peeps should be gettin their stuffs soon- all the pieces are coming together.

POLVO...so, when I was scarppin round Raleigh/Chapel Hill back in the day there was this amazing band there called POLVO- a really cool detuned, melodic pretty spastic guitar band that just blew minds when they played round the triangle...Well, after many great albums and a break they are back with this INCREDIBLE ( i mean, to me, I am very excited) album.

You can totally check it out at the Merge Records web-site. They are streaming it for pre-order. There is a whole double vinyl package and I guess a regular cd. Anyway, I can't imagine what is on the vinyl. That's all- I am really super duper glad to hear a new Polvo record but I gotta say they have always been experimental to a fault, and technical but this time around they just blew it out with major major jams. Really cool. It sounds a bit like Indian Moon music Urge Overkill KISS something...

It feels good getting jazzed on new stuff.

Hope everyone is having a nice time and I will check back in when this thing is done that I am making.

    Peace-

BTW- for some reason people have SHandbook W/O instruments ) ???) and minus 10 songs.

also there was a whole side of 48 hours and GOLD that nobody ever heard ( pr have they?)

Maybe what I need to ask is, just what in the heck is already out there?

anyway- here are some answers to some posts-

LA- you had the GSunshine lyrics right.-/ No I don't post on wikipedia ( I would never use that as a serious resource for anything but I didn't even know there was stuff on me, esp not Betsy WTF ha) - oh, also

the I Surrender lyrics are all fucked up on that version because I was on cough syrup it was from last days of smoking where i was getting tracheitus all the time

Rosebud Breakdown Into the Resolve is from an unreleased rock Cardinals ( kind of- no jon, me on bass ) record we made right before ET that no one has heard- prob do something with that later

and no I don't feel weird about CRDS they should do fun shiz life is sweet and far too short eh.

This concludes the topics he has started recently, however his interaction between these threads as well a few others do highlight some interesting items. IMO, one which made me

SMILE was in a thread someone had started about "Songs Cards should cover of Whiskeytown". Check Wolf's reply:

Wolf replies: nah. like I said, I think there might be more from your old pal's Whiskeytown. It has been discussed. No plans. Just talked about. I always think Caitlin Skillet and me will/ would do something eventually.

  2. See, I totally disagree with this. His two current guitarists can't solo their way out of a paper bag. Dylan should be playing with a much higher caliber of musicians imo. His vocals and phrasing were fantastic in Milwaukee a few weeks ago, bit the repetitive staccato guitar parts got old after 4 songs. They played the same notes over and over through the entire song. Every one....

    I want BUCKY back !!!

  3. is there a new album coming out?

NEW CD IS IN THE CAN AND COMING SOON

The New Riders new studio CD (we still like to call them albums) entitled Where I Come From will be released sometime in May. It features 7 new songs written by David Nelson and Robert Hunter

  4. Well, lets toss some good 'ol New Riders of the Purple Sage in this here thread.

First, I'll blame Jon Graboff and the last 4 years-ish of chasing The MF Cardinals around the states

for getting me back into the pedal steel sound. It seems a "sound" my ears, mind and feet crave

lately. I've been grabbing old shows (Garcia on the PS) off the archive.org and have grabbed some

new shows on bt etree lately. The local left of the dial station up here has been playing some tracks

off the upcoming new release. What I have heard off it excites me.

I do wish John Dawson would come out of retirement but the current line-up does sound great. Buddy Cage

still has me tapping my feet. Good to see Robert Hunter pennng some recent tunes for them. The style

of the NRPS, IMO blends itself well to Hunter's lyrics.

So with all that said, where the hell is the leak?

    :blink

  5. Yes, they were way better with their instruments then calculators. Mickey Harts father stole a large sum of money of them during the early seventies while managing the band which led to Mickeys departure for several years. I believe they also lost a lot of money on the "wake of the flood" album, which should have done well (great tracks and a good follow up to American Beauty) but I believe the album was bootlegged by the mob.

I can't recall when in the '70's, but they also started their own record label. It was a gigantic failure.

They lost a ton of money on the venture.

  6. Oh My !

Show is up already at bt etree too

  7. Sarah, it was indeed a great night.

I have been looking at youtube in hopes someone has the

"sing-a-long" last song which you mention.

What a great moment it was. For some of the ol DEADHEADS here

it reminded me of the sing-off/clap of a second set NFA until the boys come back

    out for encore.

    Smiles all around.

  8. Old tour buds twisted my arm Sunday night, so off I went

to Athens yesterday. Glad they "forced me."

Twas my 2nd time seeing them in this venue.

I knew what to expect this time.

    It's definitely set-up for a "college crowd".

I'm a BEER drinker but so far in my last two Wico shows there

I have one BEER each night. It's just not worth dealing with the cattle corals.

I can understand why they do it. One can only imagine the spilled beers leading

to a ton of people slipping and falling on the concrete floor.

There was also at least one taper last night. That's good.

Did anyone venture down to the 40 Watt for DINO, JR. after the show?

We thought about it but then figured it was most likely sold-out.

  9. Well, caught the show last night in Chatt. WOW, it's more than the loudness, it's the sheer

    power.

Now the venue is tiny. I would say from the stage to rear of the place is maybe 50'.

I was at the soundboard for the entire set and my pants and shirt were literally moving

from the amps being pushed my way.

Excellent set, outstanding interplay. I ran into Sarah, who had a great spot DEAD center

on the balcony. I sure HOPE she took some pics.

As for earplugs, I guess I fall into that "no problem" type and went without them. I can see

if i was maybe another 15' closer I may have been wishing for them. I would say to any

planning on catching a show, take your plugs as you may wish you had them.

DEAD Confederate opened. I had not heard any of their music but had read some recent

mag reviews. They toss out a ton of energy on stage. Musically, IMO you have a band

which would have happened if MMJ had formed in Seattle versus Louisville. Grungy.

  10. I'm heading out right now for a crazy weekend. I wonder how many other FREAKS will be doing my schedule?

Mon Night - Dino Jr. in Chattanooga

WKCR-FM NY is proud to present the 2009 Country Music Festival: Perspectives In Country Music. WKCR will be airing this festival continuously both on-air and on web streams from 12:00 PM Friday, April 10th until Sunday, 12 AM April 12th, a total of 60 hours. Tune in to 89.9 FM on your dial or wkcr.org to listen.

In keeping with this year's theme, our programming will be split into daily focuses on a particular perspective in country music: Friday will be devoted to "Songwriters," Saturday to "Musicians

  12. It seems to me all the "new country" songs are nothing more than some redneck anthem.

Nothing more than a song whose point is to make the crowd sing-a-long with your BEER raised HIGH.

The labels have found a niche and cram it down the throats of their $$$$ base.

It seems most (still talking corporate radio country) are all songs written in the first person.

You may find a few 2nd person, as in a love song. Very, very hard to find a song written in

a 3rd person format. Sing me a story, dammit !

  13. I remeber hearing the Croby and Garcia stuff but that's about it. Pretty muddy recording that I recall. Mostly goofing around jamming stuff, too.

Ok, had a minute to google around. Found what I remembered.

    Good Stuff here:

A fascinating artifact, this AUD recording was recorded with Mickey, Phil, Jerry, Bob, David Crosby and John Cippolina. Read the text file for more info. These jams are quite melodic and exploratory, especially on the half-hour Wall Song. Unfortunately, the taper often stopped and started the recording between songs which is sorta annoying as there is an almost total lack of chatter that might have been interesting. That said, the quality of the AUD is very decent. I'm just glad someone captured this at all.

BTW, the name of the final Tuning jam is the old J.P. Sousa march Stars & Stripes Forever
