  1. I know there is a very slim chance, but looking for 2 for 2/14/16, Charleston WVA.  Its my anniversary night, would love to see the show with my wife.  Please message me if any possibilities.  Thanks in advance!

  2. I agree, I miss the days of standing through Wilco shows. I am getting older myself but I still enjoy being on my feet and rocking out to Wilco. The new theatre settings have forced me to attend less Wilco shows than normal. Everyone has their preferences and mine is to enjoy myself at shows. I can sit down and watch a movie, I prefer to stand and rock at concerts!

  3. I got into MMJ around the time of it Still Moves and have been hooked ever since. I love the live shows and their constant exploration of various sounds. On a seperate note, I was doing an interview at a Starbucks in Louisville, Ky yesterday on Baxter Ave. and Jim James walks in orders a coffe and something to eat and just walks off with very little recognition. I obviously knew who he was and wanted to halt my interview and say hello. I decided that it would be best just to let him go about his business and he walked off. Made the overnight trip to Lousiville worth while! MMJ Rules!

  4. I have been to many Wilco shows with Leroy, he was solid and I enjoyed his time in the band. I actually prefer his low key approach to Pats "rock star stage dynamics". Then again, I prefer the old Wilco to the new, this includes Nels who is a fantastic player but does not have Jay's presence. Those Wilco shows circa 96-99 were amazing! I miss them!

I would take sloppy seconds on Leroy when Poon was done.

I loved that man; you have to admire a guy who played four instruments during a single song and still looked bored to tears. :lol

I agree, that is an excellent way to describe Leroy!

  5. Agree, I miss the Boquist brothers, Son Volt has not been the same without them!

there's really no need for it. tweedy probably has no interest in revisiting those old songs or the bass guitar. it's not like there was some magic there when they sang or played on par with CSN or olson and louris.

i would much rather see jay farrar get back together with the boquist brothers. why that hasn't worked out is beyond me. what the hell are those guys doing anyway?

  6. Although no one may care or agree with my opinion. Neither Wilco or Son Volt are making interesting music anymore. I am a huge UT fan and have mixed feelings about a UT reunion. It may just be me but SBS and WTA just havent done it for me. After the first 4 to 5 songs on WTA I lost interest, same for SBS. Son Volt hasn't been the same since the line up change. Outside of Break your heart neither has made complelling music in years. I personally have found in other bands like MMJ and The Avett Bros. what I formerly found in Wilco and Son Volt, energy, passion and creative music. Whether it be a UT reunion or something else, I am hoping for the creative spark to return to both Jeff and Jay.

  7. I think its cheezy. I don't like it. It's a "pee" song for me.

    [/quote

Yes, it is also a pee song for me. My dislike of the song has nothing to do with it not being "deep" or anything like that. I grew up n the same generation as Jeff and I can certainly relate to what he is saying but I have not liked this song from the first time I heard it. It is a buzz kill for me during shows and also when listening to YHF. To each their own though, I know a lot of folks like HMD.

  8. Great setlist. I assume this was the acoustic portion? Some great songs in there...

Agree, the past two nights set list were very diverse. The kind of setlist I have been hoping Wilco could produce. I am jealous that I decided not to but tickets to this tour. May have to try to find a couple tickets to the Pittsburgh show!

  9. I too love the Gleam Ep's. I think those are intended to show the softer/acoustic side and not as much the rambunctious side, but they do the soft/acoustic thing really well. I'd agree that "Sanguine" "When I Drink" "If It Is The Beaches" "Murdered In The City" "St. Joseph" are top 10 Avett songs.

I know I am in the minority but never have ranked "Murder in The City" or "When I Drink" as fav. Avett songs. I like both songs but compared to "Beaches" and "St. Joesph" they don't stack up. I like both Gleams but rock other Avett"s way more often.

  10. it's more dad rock than adult contemp... but i wouldn't disagree with you, neither are the bands best work whatsoever

seeing Avetts for the 4th time tonight tho! can't wait to see Low Anthem too

I probably rank I & Love & You as the 3rd best Avett cd. Behind 4 Thieves and Emotionalism, depending on my mood.

You will enjoy Low Anthem they were great at the Athens, Ohio show. Enjoy! I have tickets to see the Avetts at Red Rocks in September, too bad I have to set through Gov. Mule also.

  11. I and Love and You is a bit too close to adult-contemporary at times for me. not a big fan of piano being the main instrument in the band at all, that's not why i got into them.

there's maybe 2 reviewers on the entire site i can actually stand

I have always respected your views on music on this board, still do. Recent Wilco (SBS and WTA) is far more adult comtemporary for me.

  12. as great as the Avett's are live, i really hope they don't bother working with Rick Rubin ever again...

To each his own, I truly like what Rubin has done for the Avett's and most important the band was hoping to make a record like I & Love & You. It didn't just happen because of Rick. The extra money from a major label allowed them the capital to make the record. I love the old Avett stuff as well, just enjoy the way a band matures and progresses and Rick was a major part of that. Don't count on them not working with Rick any more, as I believe they are signed with American now. Keep on, keepig on Avetts! Magazine critics opinion generaly don't mean much to me. For God sakes the critics loved Wilco the album. While it contained a few quality songs, it got a few plays in my car cd then was relagated to bottom of my cd case in favor of much better Wilco and other cds.

  13. I get where you are coming from. The current Wilco tour in support of (The Album) is the first tour I have not seen them on. I personally have found them to be hit and miss live since the SummerTeeth tour. To me, there is certain comfort about the Wilco shows on recent tours that has left me at times underwhelmed. Wilco use to be emotionally intense in a live setting, now it kind of feels like a band playing their hits (of course there are no hits) but you get what I'm saying. I can't speak for the current tour however.

Agree, I loved the Beng There and Summer Teeth tours. Went to many shows in several cities. I just got tickets to see the Avett Brothers at Red Rocks, very excited for that. I want to be excited to see Wilco again, hope the sets start to change or I may never feel the same about a Wilco live show. I assume they are still great for folks who haven't been to as many shows or who are seeing them for the first time. The sound and playing are always quality never the less.

  14. Have you been paying attention to them since they returned in '09? I wasn't into them when they were on fire in the early to mid 90s, but based on all the recordings I have, I'd say they're pretty close to the band they once were. Their shows are still the best out there.

Yes, I am familiar with the new stuff, perhaps I have just grown out of the Phish craze. I still really enjoy their music but I never thouoght they were the best live band out there. I was a dire hard Dead fan who caught on to Phish around 93'. I have been to about 5 or so Phish shows and they were excellent, but never came close to Being there era Wilco shows or MMJ shows from It still Moves or current day energy of the Avett Brothers. I also got tired of the whole atmosphere around Phish shows, made me enjoy it less and less each time I went to see them.
