  1. A guy on At Ease posted this from someone who has heard the record (plus track lengths). Jesus I am getting so excited.

so I was tipped off by a very reliable source that Art of Almost is 7:15 ("very, very awesome and unlike the other songs") and Song for Jane Smiley's Boyfriend is 12:02 ("all acoustic, same guitar riff, some piano, very somber and reminds me of Nick Drake or something from YHF..I love it. it's not boring at all")

    01. Art of Almost (7:15)

    02. I Might (3:59)

    03. Sunloathe (3:18)

    04. Dawned on Me (3:40)

    05. Black Moon (3:53)

    06. Born Alone (3:55)

    07. Open Mind (3:37)

    08. Capital City (4:01)

    09. Standing O (3:29)

    10. Rising Red Lung (2:59)

    11. Whole Love (3:47)

    12. One Sunday Morning/Song for Jane Smiley's Boyfriend (12:02)

he also said it's definitely better than the last two since it feels "more organic and emotional" and again, compared a lot of things to YHF outtakes but reiterated that the trailer and Art of Almost are red herrings. there's "a ton of organ and keys like the beach boys used in the 60s" (mellotron? fun.png) and a ton of "very Wilco" riffs. the pacing on the album is supposedly very weird too..

  2. Wait... the final track is a 10-verse, 14 minute, alt-country jam?

That sounds so wrong and potentially awful I'm intrigued.

    Remember The Mountain Bed anyone?

  3. Yeah I find it hard to believe that it's truly "out there" if it's not on What or Waffles. If it has though they will usually do a stream in roughly a week I'd say.

With SBS only three tracks leaked at first on some blog and then the whole thing leaked.

  4.

I think most people forget that Wilco (The Song) was a tongue-in-cheek response to the whole Joe The Plumber thing from McCain's campaign. Wilco debuted the song on The Colbert Report in 2008, and I have no idea if it was what is now the album version or not. I do remember a lot of people around here raving over it and commenting that the song was better than "80% of Sky Blue Sky" or something like that. It was taken quite seriously right out of the gate, despite the fact that it was written for their appearance on Colbert during which performance Mikael Jorgensen taped over all the letters on his "YAMAHA" keyboard except "HA."

Pretty sure it wasn't written SPECIFICALLY for Colbert, probably just made sense as odds are they already knew the album title/concept and the whole "Colbert will love you baby" thing worked.

  5.

    cool Kalle.

Going up to the French River/Sudbury in late September for a Canoe Trip. Bribing my trippies with dinner and a night at the Sudbury Hilton if we go to Cosmic Dave's and The Townhouse Tavern first. Never been to the Townhouse.

Poptodd. Brian is one of the Musicians from the excellent band Ox. The song that just got me is here:

Awesome! The Townehouse isn't the most lavish place but it gets unbelievable stuff for its size, we've had some really good times playing there.

And yeah You've Changed is a pretty unbelievable label lately, non-stop good stuff coming from them.

It just leaked on a Portugese radio station, soooooo good.

  6. Newish song:

And news about the new record?

"Ashes & Fire is set to include 12 country-rock songs, and will feature Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers' organist Benmont Tench and guest co-vocalist Norah Jones, who Adams has previously worked with on ...Featuring, Jones' 2010 compilation album. The album was produced by Glyn Johns, who has worked with the likes of The Who and The Rolling Stones. His son, fellow producer Ethan Johns, previously worked with Adams' band Whiskeytown back in the late 90s. "

  7. +1

Love some Daniel Romano.. He needs to get down here to Southern US sometime.. Folks would love him down here.

Yeah he's incredible live (solo and with a band) I've caught him almost ten times since he's started his solo project, such a super nice dude too. My band opened for Attack In Black a year and a bit ago but I really dig his solo stuff so much more.

oh yeah... add these to my list too!

i dig the TVOTR quite a bit, and it's still in my top 30 (along w/ Radiohead) so far, but it's my least favorite of their last 3 by far.

as for Death Cab... i didn't expect much after the last 2, but it might be my least favorite of theirs

Yeah I wasn't expecting much out of Death Cab or Bright Eyes either, but sure doesn't mean they didn't suck!

I also didn't dig the Panda Bear record or Lucinda Williams.

  8. I'm going to break my own thread and give a top 16. Great suggestions though everyone I'm downloading a bunch as I type.

Also, Solace will love that my opinion on the Bon Iver has completed changed and it's also great to see Daniel Romano's record on so many lists!

    1. Bon Iver - Bon Iver, Bon Iver

    2. Fleet Foxes - Helplessness Blues

    3. One Hundred Dollars - Songs Of Man

    4. PJ Harvey - Let England Shake

    5. Daniel Romano - Sleep Beneath The Willows

    6. Gillian Welch - The Harrow & The Harvest

    7. Radiohead - The King Of Limbs

    8. Bill Callahan - Apocolypse

    9. Timber Timbre - Creep On Creepin' On

    10. Josh T Pearson - Last Of The Country Gentlemen

    11. Kurt Vile - Smoke Ring For My Halo

    12. Thurston Moore - Demolished Thoughts

    13. Little Scream - The Golden Record

    14. Sloan - The Double Cross

    15. Decemberists - The King Is Dead

    16. Fucked Up - David Comes To Life

    Disappointments:

Death Cab For Cutie - ouch...

Iron & Wine - A lot of people here seem to dig it but I really think the tunes are lacking compared to his last records and I don't like the production.

    The Strokes - Just awful.

    TV On The Radio

    Bright Eyes
