Hey all, I haven't posted in forever but since I saw bbop was going to be making the Ontario shows I figured I'd do my best at a recap. - Kingston is a small university town right in between Toronto & Ottawa, sort of infamously the hometown of Gord Downie & The Tragically Hip & a necessary touring spot for every Canadian band at some point - I haven't looked this up but I think it's safe to say Jeff or Wilco have never played there before last night, seeing Kingston on the itinerary was pretty shocking but also pretty cool, looks like they tried to do as many shows around Toron

Well I managed to pull singles for each night so I take this back, but boy was that frustrating.

After managing to pull amazing seats for two nights in Chicago I got shutout of both Massey Hall shows, very odd..

It's tough to really figure it out upon my first two listens. Some real standouts & some others that require more listening, or maybe not. Some of Jeff's best lyrics in quite a while I think, especially compared to Star Wars which I felt leaned a lot on the "phonetic transcribing" he's done a lot of since TWL. I get why they separated Star Wars & Schmilo, both do feel a lot different but you always do wonder what could have been w/ records released so close together. IMO there is a stone cold classic 12-song record between these two & the Tweedy record that could maybe be the b

That was pretty great. Super gutsy thing for a band to do that at that big of a headlining festival set.

They sound unbelievably tight for never playing these songs live before. They really kept this whole thing under wraps.

That sounds like a publishing thing. It's possible he signed something for that one record but that seems weird to me.

So Jim O'Rourke was definitely not involved, Tom Schick produced it w/ Jeff. Bob Ludwig mastered.

Production is really similar to what Jeff has been doing in the Loft for other people (like zero reverb, super small amp guitar tones).

I texted bbop the setlist right after but here it is: Diamond Light Flowering Summer Noon World Away New Moon High As Hello Low Key IATTBYH (start of solo section) New Madrid Hummingbird Passenger Side Spiders Born Alone Jesus Etc. IATMWLY Shot In The Arm You Are Not Alone (w/ band) Cana-dee-an Stars (w/band) No encore. Big difference from the Detroit show to this one, band sounded much more confident and comfortable, songs had more dynamics etc. Jeff was hilarious, sang a bit of Journey (who were headlining Bluesfest that day) had a few other really good quips too, can't really remember

Hey all, figured it was my duty to give you the rundown on the new Tweedy 10". Side A - the actual Diamond Light tune. Sounds really good, super boxy sounding drums, lots of good crazy sounds in the background. Way more fleshed out and full sounding compared to the live show IMO. Jeff double tracked his voice on it and there is a ton of GROOVE, sort of cross between Bull Black Nova and Radiohead's Where I End And You Begin. Side B - picks up where side A left off, instrumental noise piece, not unlike the stuff off of the Wilco book. Sound-wise it's similar to "I'll Sing It", not totally
