  1. You Never Know may be one of the worst songs ever and can firmly be labeled dad rock for it's sentiment (sorry Jeff).

hmm. i love that tune. if George Harrison was alive and heard it, he'd be banging his head against the wall, thinking 'why didnt i write this for the Wilburys?'. it's got his voice and guitar all over it and it sounds like Jeff Lynne was a fly on the wall when they recorded/mixed it. i find this album better than TWL, but opinions are like arseholes - everyone's got one!

phew, just got home. great show as usual. the setlist above is spot on. some people from here took a pic of it if they want to post it. one thing i noticed was that the songs from Tweedy sound a lot more powerful when done on stage. to me, the album sounds a bit stale, but now they've come alive. spencer sounds a lot more forceful.

some funny moments came up. there was jeff hearing a baby crying at one point and that caught him by surprise.

also pretty early in the set, jeff noticed a bunch of people in the middle that kept ducking off to the toilet while pushing past everyone else. "do you have to gop to the bathroom that much? - at least you'd know what to do if there was a fire!"

he also mentioned about the previous show where he ducked off stage quickly and the crowd went dead silent. he mentioned his motto (cant remember exactly what", but he said that if people want him to leave, he'll play even longer!

as he was introducing a song from their first album (passenger side), someone yelled PASSENGER SIDE!. the response was "ah, stop fucking with me. dont try to pretend like you've heard the album!. he then played ITMWLY instead, but he quickly played passenger side right after it. then he said well, that makes one person happy. i yelled out AIRLINE TO HEAVEN!, and then he looked at me and said "2 people"

the support act, (Those Pretty Wrongs), were ok. sort of acoustic and folky. they played Thirteen, from the big star days

good time had by our usual crowd in the front row. now its time to bring the whole band over

  3. Hmm froggie that's Darryl White not David. And now we're friend on Facebook too ;)

Five Years was played as a second encore to be precise as well. I'll write up a detailed report later!

  5. He throws the whole band out - saying it's all about Angus. I think those guys should just call it a day. How many millions do you need?

    :thumbup

they're not as good as people say or think. i'll be glad to see the back of them

  6. Well either way, there would not be "the Beatles" without him.  Sure there would be a group that was very popular for a time, but the recording artists "The Beatles" might not have existed.

Brian Epstein?, but George sure knew how tiddle the nobs

  7. Do you think that someday the band might have former members (Leroy, Bob, Max, or Ken) as special guests at something like this event?

if the time and place is right, i can see Leroy joining on a couple of tunes, but it is a long shot. who know whether they're in the audience anyway, again depending on time and place

  8. There are a couple decent moments on Budokan, I think, maybe Shelter From The Storm and Like A Rolling Stone.  Dylan says he was pressured into putting that album out, it was originally going to be just released in Japan.  It was early on in the tour and he says they hadn't hit their stride yet.  Its for completists only, I'd say.

the 78 tour got way better/stronger as the year went on. there'ss a popular bootleg from Charlotte in november of that year which is way better than budokan, and it has really good sound quality

  9. i read that when SL was originally record, they sat around together in a a studio while recording, so all the instruments bled into eachothers microphones, which gave it that muddy sound (which i dont mind). when the 1999 remaster came out, they managed to separate them from eachother. i've also got a soft spot 'we better talk this over' :)
