That's true, I should be happy for Marc that he is trying to stay clean and sober (if indeed he is). I know it's been a rough trip for him and that he has a lot of problems, not just that he has been a junkie on and off for years. Back in the day Marc was more than a guitarist - he was Chris's best friend. It's hard to recreate that feeling after the years of resentment that must have built up.

\ You're right. The Crowes are Chris/Rich and they can hire whoevere they want. You can compare Jeff and Wilco to the Robinsons and the Crowes, but Wilco never pretended to be anything but Jeff's band. The Crowes used to be a band of brothers - not a circle with a center. The Crowes they are a completely different band without Marc. Obviously, their best records were between 1992-1996 and a lot of this has to do with Marc's solos and the talent that he brought to the table. After they kicked him out (giving him no notice, I may add) their records were way less good (in fact I think both Lio

Oh well, I guess that's what makes horse races and why there's chocolate and vanilla.

How bizarre is it that the main reasion Jeff couldn't imagine an UT reunion is not because of bad blood, but that he's not sure he could still play the songs? Chuck Klosterman wrote a book called Fargo Rock City a few years ago about growing up as a metalhead that was sooo amazing that I have followed his work ever since. Nothing has ever been as good (in my opinion) but I would definately say that his articles and interviews are better than his last two books. I would recommend Fargo Rock City to anyone who grew up obsessed with music. I wish I had never read it so I could read it again

He is a huge Wilco fan. He also wrote this little gem: http://www.citypages.com/databank/25/1246/article12584.asp

yes, the Sunset Station web site says tickets are $27 and GA. How about Ft. Worth? is there assigned seating at the Will Rogers Amp.?
-
Me too. I never got to see Wilco with Jay Bennett, but he's so ultra talented and he contributed so much to their greatness and what they turned into that I feel like I really missed out.
-
That's very true, there was probably a promoter behind it, but couldn't they have thrown in a "formerly" or something?
-
I was looking through Ticketmaster for Wilco and this came up: Ryko Presents Elf Power, Jay Bennet of Wilco, James Kochalka, and Miho Is it a little sad that he is still referring to himself at Jay Bennet of Wilco?

Why do none of my friends like Wilco?

sadly, the PA show is 6 hours away from NYC and nobody that I know is crazy enough to travel that far for Wilco (fools!). If I could only shave it down to 4 hours...

The Garden on New Years was?

Theologians was also on the original Roadcase, but cut off in the middle. It's not on this one at all, I guess they edited it out.

They haven't played NYC since 2004!

well that's the thing: I love them both too, especially Walken which was a set standout to me when I heard it in Sept. at ACL before I even knew it was a new Wilco song (in fact, I figured it was a cover). Not every song has to be pure poetry for me to love it, I love poppy Wilco. I just think lyrically they sound inorganic. I am ready to embrace any new Wilco album, a lyrical masterpiece or not.
-
I agree, I love "Walken", but the lyrics are not just goofy - they seem forced and insincere and not organic at all. As if JT decided to sit down and write a "love song" instead of just becoming inspired and letting it flow. I feel the same way about "Is That The Thanks I Get?"
-
Has anyone transcribed the new lyrics? I, for one, would be interested in reading them.
-
Between the comments about his lyrics and his weight he will probably be thrown into a downward spiral of depression and start writing the lyrics everyone expects of him again.
-
I am actually changing my mind. I initially agreed that the new lyrics seemed weak, but I was listening to I Got You (at the end of the century) in the car this morning and remembered that not all Wilco lyrics are brilliant and cryptic. Many of their great songs have straight forward poppy lyrics. We have no idea what the new album will be like yet, and I am just as anxious to know as everyone else, but have been jumping the gun. I want to enter the experience of getting their new record with an open mind.

I guess you're right. I have issues, I will just assume Jethro does too.
-
OK fair enough, he is a little bit heavier, but that is an especially unflattering picture. I saw him 2 weeks ago (where he said that the green jacket was the only piece of clothing he has that still fits...hhhmmmm) and he looked great! Who cares anyway?
-
And that he looks fine! You people are crazy - he looks exactly the same as he always looks which is hardly heavy enough to think that his weight is as unhealthy as smoking.
-
It's possible that now that Jeff has never felt happier and is less tortured his lyrics are suffering.

How did it come to be that Wilco met a bunch of college students and had them play horns for their next few gigs?
