  1. This is definitely racist:

To me as an American, the racism in European football is so surreal. Try to imagine someone throwing a banana at a black athlete in an American stadium. I doubt that many people would know what it meant. They would just say, "Hey, some dude threw a banana on the field. What the hell is that about?". Actual racist chanting from the stands would result in a stadium brawl. Imagine watching ESPN and seeing a group of, say, traveling Cub fans repeatedly push a black man out of the subway while making racist chants. You wouldn't believe it. We have the stain of slavery affecting our society much worse than any European nation, but the overt display of racism seems to be less here.

Yes, identify the fans, but FIFA, UEFA and the national football associations have to start seriously punishing the clubs for their supporters. Not financially, but losing points in league tables and forfeiting games in competitions.Fair or not, it's the only way to effectively combat such disgraceful behavior.

  2. Kevin, I understand your point but the thing is, that Fox News watchers don't believe that Rush, et. al. (is that correct?) ever lie. They don't see them as unethical. Therefore, they don't see any hypocrisy bashing Williams but not Drug Addict Lying Sack of Shit Baugh.

  3. Correct me if I'm wrong, but this is a show I recorded off of the radio on a cassette. King Biscuit Flower Hour, I think. It was definitely the Agora Ballroom in Cleveland and the set list brings back memories. I played the hell out of that tape back in high school. Some asshole in college permanently borrowed it and I have wanted to listen again for 30 years. Man, that was a great show, even on a cassette recorded from the radio! I assume that it will be available? I can hardly wait! Thanks for the post.

  4. We have a canoe but have never canoed there. The canoe/kayak area is looks nice though and seems to get use. It's a tidal marsh and you get views and waterfowl. We contemplate bringing the canoe but never do it. Also, the amphitheater has a Farmer's market Saturday mornings that's fun.

  5. If any out of town St. Augustine attendees are also campers, then Anastasia State Park is where you should sleep. We have camped there several times, twice for amphitheatre shows, and it's perfectly situated. There is a trail near the campground area that takes you directly to the amphitheatre. We ride our bikes and lock them up, but it is an easy walk. No parking hassles and wake up Saturday to spend the morning on a beautiful pristine beach before spending the day in St. Augustine. Make your reservation soon as there are only 24 unreserved sites remaining! Meet us at site 15 for a pre show beer.

  6. Hilarious. Yes, you are correct that when including all 3 levels of government, more is spent on education and welfare than on defense. State and local governments spend virtually zero dollars on defense. If the federal government spent less on defense, more money could be spend on education and helping the poor in various ways.

  7. My wife and I enjoyed Car Talk for many years. Since Tom and Ray clearly loved the show, it always seemed strange that they stopped recording new ones back in 2012. Now we know that it wasn't exactly voluntary. If we would all, like Tom, "just slow down and enjoy life", we'd be a happier, healthier society.

  8. Thanks. Don't know why he is so mad. Not trying to piss off anyone. In fact allmans are one of my all time favs.

Just to be clear, John Wesley somehow thought that my "eat a peach" reply was supporting him. It wasn't. I was amazed at the vitriol and attempted to defuse it.

  9. It is a snarky blog post. That is journalism today. The reasoning is "I have an issue with Wilco. It's a personal beef. My problem is this: Wilco is considered a Chicago band and the band members encourage this bullshit fallacy. Wilco is from St. Louis, goddamnit." Some of it is true. I saw them 3 nights in a row in 2008 at the Pageant and remember hearing that banter. Have you ever bought lit cigarettes? It wasn't a review of the album but an opinion on the band in general and on them releasing an rarities set specifically, that was laced with a healthy dose of irreverence. I am a serious Wilco lover. I laughed at comments such as "In any case, because Wilco dismisses my city, it's my instinct to dismiss Wilco.#TeamSonVolt." and enjoyed the blog post,  Thanks to bbop for linking it.

  10. I thought it was a good opinion piece. I enjoyed it. It made me laugh. It's a blog in the Riverfront Times, what did you expect? I understood what she was saying, but I also assumed that some of it was tongue in cheek. If we could go to an alternate universe where it was a similar article but about a band that you don't like, I believe that you would at least find it remotely humorous, if not actually like it.

  11. "Music that the kids are into since 1950, except jazz or broadway musicals or country" Hall of Fame.

Can't let those damn roaring 20s Flappers in there!!

    There you go!

I can definitely see both sides. I understand what Bleed Orange is saying. To me, hip-hop is so distinctive, it has become it's own genre and therefore deserves it's own recognition as a unique art form.

I have decided to view this issue the way I view Global Warming/Climate Change. I know that global warming is real because the science is there. The vast majority of climatologists agree on the evidence, so it is a fact. As soon as I determine what the vast majority of musicologists have found based on the evidence, then I'll know if hip-hop is a form of rock and roll or if hip-hop is it's own distinct musical genre. To The Google!!

  12. Depends.  Did the rap, disco, etc. acts have a measurable influence on rock?  If so, they deserve consideration.

The Beatles would easily sail into a Rap Hall of Fame just on the basis of Paul's Boutique.

That might happen, but they would be in under the 'early influence' category. Similar to how Woody Guthrie and Pete Seeger are in the Rock Hall as early influences.
