  1. I was hoping that you would! Thanks, man and I'll keep 'em coming. If the Atticus refers to Atticus Finch, then you chose your alias well because it fits you! Cheers, mate!
  2. That isn't surprising due to him being incredibly prolific. (Forgive me. I couldn't resist. I should have waited as you provided a much better opportunity than the prior posting.)
  3. I would agree. I first read it when I was 14 or 15. I had read a few other great novels prior but I'd have to say that Catcher In The Rye really started it all.
  4. This looks excellent. I thought that there could be interest here among non-Aquarium Drunkard VCers. http://www.aquariumdrunkard.com/2010/01/28/talking-heads-saratoga-performing-arts-center-ny-august-1983/#more-11516
  5. Sigh. Goodbye to the most prolific author of all time.
  6. Ha and touche'! I love that episode. It was one of the ones that I made sure to DVR when SyFy had a Twilight Zone marathon over New Year's.
  7. I concede defeat. There are several sensible reasons to have LASIK. I am fortunate that, at this point, I only have presbyopia. In the future my negligible myopia may worsen and I will need to wear glasses all day rather than just for reading. I apologize if I offended anyone that has had or considered LASIK or has a loved that has done so. I wasn't considering all of the possibilities, only my own point of view and experience.
  8. Gobias, you are describing people that I have no need to meet. I understand the reasons why someone would consistently vote for Ted Kennedy but then vote Scott Brown but that doesn't make them logical to me.
  9. I already had thought of the fact that Ted wasn't up until 2012. I doubt that if Ted had been running, again speculation, a few weeks ago against Scott Brown, that he would have lost. There is no way of knowing but based on past history, he would have won. In my opinion, divisive legislation or not. Health care was his 'life's work', so to speak. I still do not want to meet those kind of folks, whether they be Kennedy voters going Brown or formerly consistent Orrin Hatch voters voting for a liberal Democrat in a special election to replace him. That's all I'm saying. It is another example of w
  10. I understand your points and agree with them, winston and speed, but I believe that if Kennedy had been running, he would have won. My point still stands that minds that would have voted for Kennedy, but for whatever reasons voted for Brown, belong to people that I do not want to meet.
  11. What I keep thinking about in all of this, Brown taking Kennedy's Senate seat, is how, to me, it truly makes no sense. Here is Ted Kennedy's electoral history in the US Senate: 1962 55% of the vote, '64 74%, '70 62%, '76 69%, '82 60%, '88 65%, '94 58%, '00 73% and '06 69%. Though I am speculating, based on past voting behavior it is safe to say that had Ted Kennedy been running against Scott Brown, or anyone for that matter, he would have won handily. That means that many of the people that voted for Brown likely would have voted for Kennedy. A vote for Kennedy would have meant that they supp

  13. gogo and ih8music, your points are well taken but, simply talking out of my ass, I'd venture to say that a good percentage - if not the majority - of LASIK patients think glasses spoil their looks and/or feel that wearing them in general is a pain.
  14. I never understood what was so horrible about wearing glasses that someone would want surgery simply to never have to wear glasses again. Last summer was my Summer of Dorian Grey (the optometrist said, 'Presbyopia'). I now wear spectacles and still don't see what's so Godawful about it.
  15. Ha ha! Thanks. I am no computer brain. I have always pressed multi-quote once and waited for something to happen.
  16. Everytime I press multi-quote (for years) nothing happens, so this will be lacking in aesthetics but here goes: Posted Today, 12:42 PM JohnO, on 26 January 2010 - 12:27 PM, said: "There's a reason our ancestors left Europe and I don't see many of us signing up to immigrate back to that hell hole." dcarter replied: "I am certain that, well, I certainly hope, the above is hyperbole. That doesn't make it any less of a ridiculous statement. Do you really expect to be taken seriously after making such a pronouncement?" JohnO replied: "What? Did I miss a big story about everyone hopping back on b

  18. Count me among the Zooropa fans. I don't rank it with Analogman's Top 5 but it's close. I would add Achtung Baby to the Top 5 and drop Under A Blood Red Sky. Zooropa has some excellent songs throughout. All That You Can't... and How To Dismantle... are in the 2nd group with Zooropa and Under a Blood Red Sky. The rest have some great songs but are more uneven. But who knows for sure? It's subjective, after all. The only musical certainty is the awesomeness of John Wayne is Big Leggy.

  21. Regarding my above emphasis: Which is it, a statement of fact or of opinion? So according to the above, the following was an opinion? "As far as the uninsured go about a third of them can afford insurance but choose not to, another quarter are below the poverty line and qualify for SS/Medicare, another quarter either can't qualify for or cannot afford insurance and the remainder are illegal aliens."
  22. I am not missing the point at all. You seemed to revel in mocking the credibility of auctioneer69 citing factcheck.org as a source: "Oh and factcheck.org is a mouth piece of and funded by the left so it is hardly an unbiased representation of the facts." Why are you unwilling to state the source of your figures and allow someone else the opportunity to criticize them as being biased?
  23. Are you unwilling or unable to cite the source of your numbers? Which is it? As speed racer said, you must have gotten them from somewhere. Why the refusal to post the source?
  24. Barb, I have never posted in this thread because we like what we like and I don't see the point in these kinds of discussions BUT like Davis in 12 Angry Men, you stood alone. I, like McArdle, will give you my support. I have loved R.E.M. since Hibtone and still do. I agree that Peter Buck is the shit. Carry on with the blasphemous rumors.
