I was listening to this the other day and was wondering what people here thought of it. I feel like there's a lot of potential, but so far nothing has really hooked me.

I've only listened a few times so far. Definitely more mellow than I was hoping for, though there are some really fantastic songs that I loved instantly. Interestingly (to myself at least), I like "If Ever I Was a Child" more in the context of the album than I did when I heard it on its own. My feelings on the album as a whole are still developing but I'm kind of getting the feeling I did when Sky Blue Sky followed A Ghost Is Born. I need more noise.

Just got a Bandcamp alert that The Blisters posted a new track called "Comedown."
-
Nice! I haven't seen that one, but I have Jack White and Eddie Vedder cards from a couple of years ago. Gonna have to get one of these.

This thread, man.
Hard not to love it, right?

Let's agree to agree that the following is correct:
AM
BT
ST
YHF
AGIB
SBS
WTA
TWL
SW
WS (if it arrives on time)
Are we not afraid of jinxing WS? Until it's in my hands, I can't in good conscience include WS in my evaluations. I still say:
AM
BT
ST
YHF
AGIB
SBS
WTA
TWL
SW

I have been enjoying the (new to me) band Summer Cannibals. Fuzzy guitar rock in an age of synth pop.
You had me at "fuzzy"

You know, we've had enough of flip-flopping in this country to last me a lifetime. Have some resolve, damn it. Stick to your principles. When you wake up tomorrow it better read like this:
AM
BT
ST
YHF
AGIB
SBS
WTA
TWL
SW
You of all people should know the rightful order is:
AM
BT
ST
YHF
AGIB
SBS
WTA
TWL
SW

Thee Oh Sees
Minotaur
Block of Ice
Put Some Reverb on My Brother
I Come from the Mountain
AA Warm Breeze

"Wilco has gone on hiatus after realizing no matter what, their fans always ranked their latest effort last among the band's releases."

But seriously, what constitutes a "good" album title? I mean, is there a criteria we are looking for?
Personally I've always thought self-titled albums were a little lame, but W(TA) was a clever play on that. Beyond that, I'm not sure how to go about judging an album title. Unless it was something like "Excel Spreadsheets 4 Lyfe." Not sure I'd buy that album.

The Harry Nilsson forum was so much more supportive in 1971 of the Nilsson Schmilsson title, but they did turn a bit critical when Son of came out.
oh wait...

Thank you for that hey-o, and I don't blame you for taking a miss on his speech.
I'm always good for a Hey-o!
-
"I'm Always in Love" was the first one that came to mind.

Speaking of a drone, is anybody watching Trump's acceptance speech? *baddah-bing!*
Thanks folks, I'll be here all week! .
Hey-o!
(and nope, just can't do it. nope.)

I've had a few friends here and there tell me they just "can't get into" Wilco. My response is always to say, "I bet somewhere in their catalog there's an album worth of songs that would get you on board." Not really a description, but it has always worked to make them give the band another shot and usually me a chance to make a Wilco mix.
-
Ah, the drone. Fun to turn up a bit loud at stoplights while driving, to share with other drivers. Or maybe it was just my response to the relentless car boom boxes that were everywhere then, thumping through neighborhoods so loud that you couldn't hear yourself think. The drone sounded mellow by comparison.
I never let my younger boy skip the drone. I'm pretty sure this is why he likes noise rock now.

I was a lurker in those days (still am basically), but i do remember this. I also remember a sado-masochistic bondage interpretation of She's a Jar that was about the most amazing thing I've ever read (as well as the reactions to it). Those were the days... ok, back to my lurking...
Damn, I missed that, too. I guess I'm not supposed to disappear for eight years at a time. Sheesh.

That must've been right when I disappeared from VC. Wish I had been around, sounds like a fun time on the boards.

I asked a journalist acquaintance who has heard the album what to expect, expressing my preference for their loud, asymmetrical stuff and he said it's "quite loud and definitely asymmetrical. Maybe not so much peppy." He also said it's amazing. Which I took as a given.

What a nice surprise this was this afternoon. But now I NEED a new album. Like now!

I've been really enjoying the new album Teens of Denial by the band Car Seat Headrest. Very melodic, fuzzy sounding, literate pop rock. Cool lyrics, songs with big choruses and surprising twists in arrangement and instrumentation.
I've heard a couple songs and have been meaning to listen to more.

What books are people starting off the new year with? I'm trying to decide between Jonathan Lethem's A Gambler's Anatomy and Last Days by Brian Evenson.
