  1. I am really happy about the increased keyboard presence. There is no disputing Jeff's now-awesome guitar playing and Nels is a great contribution, but they have two awesome key players that didn't have much to do (in terms of keys at least) on SBS and it really adds a lot.
  2. Does anyone else hear some production similarities to the "Down With Wilco" album (Minus 5)? That was the last album that reminded me of Summerteeth, production-wise except w/ a slightly less doped-up vibe. That album had the keys like this new one and lots of backup singing but didn't have the suffocatingly dense production sound of Summerteeth. (As much as like like STeeth, the dense-sound of the whole thing (partially the master) makes it sound a little flat.) Also, just to add my two cents, this album is a total grower and although I had initially been feeling let down by it, I am lov
  3. Another interesting thing about this album is that it was recorded so soon after YHF, and it has a sort of half YHF/ half Summerteeth vibe to it. It's like Summerteeth, except sloppy, and with a different singer. I never really liked the Minus 5 before this record, but this particular one is awesome. Even though Scott M. wrote all the songs, there is definitely a Tweedy influence on the writing, and I believe Wilco (and particularly Tweedy & John Stirrat) played a large role in the arrangements. --nt--
  4. I'm not much for the new Golden Smog CD. Does anyone else notice that the band is now essentially The Jayhawks? I'm amused that the Jayhawks "broke up", and then this CD comes out. I like Gary Louris, but something has gone awry with his lyrics...case in point - that "Corvette" song. Ugh. "Long Time Ago" is pretty good...I could use a few more of those. I was suprised when Tweedy ended up having such limited involvement...it seems like his songwriting is swinging around to this type of band. --nt--
  5. This song has grown on me so much over the years. It's really great. One thing that bothers me...those horns on the Summerteeth version are definetely some JB Keyboards. Maybe I'm being picky, but real horns would sound a lot better, IMO. The recent solo-versions of this song are rad too. In fact, I've never heard a bad version of it. Summerteeth is funny, in that when it came out, I really liked the first half of the album, and was so-so on the 2nd half, and now it's kind of flipped for me. That 2nd half has the growers. (Also - While I think it's a little sub-par, "In A Futu
