I read your posts. We should let everyone get healthcare themselves and the govenment shouldn't supply it right? I get that. Social security is bad. I get that too. You wouldn't access either of those goverment programs even if you needed them. I got that too. Meanwhile I am not making any assumption about who you are. You could be a 60 year old lesbian living in Canada for all I know since you don't post any personal information. You get to believe anything you want. Take care of your family and friends and don't access government programs if you don't wish to; that's fine, it le

Maybe not, but he appears to be supporting the teapartiers positions that goverment shouldn't do for people what people should be doing for themselves, whatever that means. In a perfect world everyone could do everything for themselves, but the real world just isn't like that. I suppose it is in whatever world he inhabits where all families are intact, working, educated, not disabled, and are in communities where private charities and businesses take care of all members of the community no matter what. Some parts of the world are like that I suppose. (Teabagger is a nickname that is no lo

Hey Kate...long tine no see.... It takes a teabagger like D-Dogg to bring you back. My thought exactly, except burning houses happens less than chronically ill, children (including adult children without jobs), older folks who need medical care, unemployed adults who need health care, food, and other essentials, etc. The rock bottom cynical me thinks we should just roll all of these programs back and then even the right wingers will be (quite literally) dying for them to be brought back. Even ikols comment about SSDI being fraught with fraud is interesting considering Social Security

I really want this, yet I doubt I would play it very often since I have played these albums literally thousands of times over the years. Then again if I come across a used CD copy I might do it. Then again I may pop for the LP versions and leave them to my kids. I plan to get the Whitmark demos today if I have time however. Some of those songs are my faves. LouieB

Most indie rock is liked mostly by white people. "Are we having a laugh??" LouieB

Brilliant...seriously. Lately I have been thinking that maybe we should just turn the entire country over to the tea-baggers/libertarians and let everone at it for awhile. They want it so badly, fuck it. Regarding D-Dogg's comments about Social Security and other government provided medical care (medicare, medicaid, VA, etc.) nad apparently the other stuff he doesn't approve of (food stamps???). Programs like Social Security are not just for older folks; it also gives aid to the disabled, children who have lost parents, etc. Maybe he should read up on just what supporting those progra

How do you KNOW you won't need social security or government insurance. How do you know your kids won't need it?? (How old are they? Just wait until they get older or develop chronic health issues, you MAY feel differently...) No one can see the future, not even you. Pork is non-partisan. Even if YOU don't want it your friends and neighbors not only want it, they expect it. They want it for those pet projects in their districts and will vote out any elected representative who doesn't bring it. I agree with you about pork, I strongly disagree with you about social programs. You just

Okay...old Moe is right about one thing...."My anger stems from the unbelievable (criminal!) waste of money on pork and earmarks." The problem is EVERYONE, right, left, middle up and down expect their congresspeople to bring home the pork. The rich want the rich pork, the poor want the poor pork and the middle wants the middle pork. If we stepped back and looked at what real services and programs we really need, it would save money, but no one wants to do that. I mean heaven forbid we should stop spending so much money on the military. And actually I just read that many farmers are hav

As long as we are talking about old material and how cool the Numero Group is(okay we really weren't), I got my copy of the complete Syl Johnson yesterday, which I pre-ordered a few weeks back and it is really cool. Not that I have actually listened to it yet, but I plan to soon. Five LPs, four CDs, a great LP sized book, all in a nice box, plus an extra 45 thrown in for good measure. Let's hope the Numeros get a Grammy nomination for ths one. LouieB

You Weren't There: A History of Chicago Punk (1977-1984)

i owne a copy of the LP/DVD and haven't het cracked the plastic. How dumb is that? (I was barely there...) LouieB -
Bootleggers have never cared about copyrights, so I figure they are probably still out there somewhere. After reading what titles are being released, I think nearly all this material has been floating around since bootleggers got going in the late 60s. I have many of these titles on cassettes recorded off of old LPs (and some on old LPs.) I will still buy this stuff under the assumption that they will sound better and a few titles that never made it to boots are included, but all of these songs are fairly well known. Disc: 1 1. Man On The Street (Fragment) 2. Hard Times In New York Town

What about her?? White people like her too. LouieB

Maybe you know something, but I think these sides have been bootlegged so many times that it is finally time for them to be put out by Sony (Sony needs the money...). I would imagine that they are still undercoywrite. LouieB

I am late to this party, but I loved the Roches album when it came out. I played the shit out of it. LouieB

I recall R&C being four hours long, but seemed like eight. Oh yea, I guess I did send you the extra copy. Again I think both movies in the hands of real film editors would be fantastic, but someone needs to drastically rework them. LouieB

That was a really nice write up in the New Yorker. LouieB

The main problem with Renaldo, as I recall (aside from the incomprehensible plotline), is that they cut away from the performances frequently so there are almost no songs that aren't interrupted. I bought a bootleg copy of Eat on DVD. I then talked someone into giving me a second one of what was supposedly better print, but actually it was the same shitty smeary mess as the other one I bought. Did R&C ever come out as an authorized DVD? Just curious. I suppose I would like to see it again, if only for the footage of Ginburg and Dylan visiting Kerouac's grave. LouieB

Going to Chicago....what to do, see, stay, etc.
LouieB replied to LouieB's topic in Tongue-Tied Lightning
I may have mentioned this before, but I am in Springfield, IL this week and want to mention it again today. If you are out getting your kicks on Rt 66 on the Wilco trail between Chicago and Bellville, do stop in Springfield and visit Recycled Records here in Springfield, particularly if you are a vinyl collector. Even if you are not and simply want to start, this is a good place to go. Recycled isn't hip like Reckless or Lauries or really any of the other indie stores in Chicago, but it does have more LPs than any of those places. It also doesn't have any indie cred, so you will have to ge
