I'm not in a tizzy about anything. The band does read this stuff sometimes, so you have registered your disapproval of their work for the last three or four years. BAITUSA is a fine album but it isn't Wilco. I guess I just can't figure out how people can be so bummed about the fact that W(TA) is not YHF or Summerteeth. This is just entertainment. If you don't like it, don't buy it or don't play it. There are thousands of records recorded and released every year. There have been millions of sides cut during the over 100 years of recorded music. If you don't like the last dozen recorded b

The band has been on the road for years in all parts of the world. I would say they certainly have played plenty of shows in recent years. The new album is on the way, or listen to Mavis Staples, that has some Wilco folks on it, or Autumn Defense of the most recent (or the entire back catalogue) from Nels Cline. Oh and BAITUSA is Loose Fur which is also a side project so it isn't Wilco either. So if we are talking side projects, I would say there is plenty of product out there from band members to check out. Or if you are really freaked out....the old albums still play pretty well. L

Which parts have not come around? Just curious. LouieB

Concert Marathons...most you have seen in short amount of time?

Does the entire Wilco residency (including standing out in the cold five straight days)count?? How about 2.5 days of Pitchfork? LouieB -

I did not know about Justin Roberts until last night. My kids are too old for kids music anymore so this name didn't ring a bell, but it turned out one of my musician buddies, Gerald Dowd is his drummer and I ran into him last night at a Chris Mills show. It is really fun to know someone who actually played on a grammy nominated album. Hope this guy Justin Roberts wins. Pete Seeger?? Really? Big fan, but he can barely sing anymore. He has put out great children's music over the years. LouieB

Its time for Wilco to put out an album so we have something new to talk about.... LouieB

I don't know if it is best of the year or not, but we have had a long discussion about Mavis' other recent solo work on the thread about the recent album. The Staple Singers put out tons of records, certainly many uneven. These best of lists are usually just about everything anyone has heard during a year. LouieB

I went to three shows in one day recently.... LouieB -
I have not seen all the nominees, but Esperanza Spalding in the same category with Justin Bieber?? Mind boggling. Artistically these two aren't even on the same planet. Congrats to both the Numero Group for Light on the South Side and Archeophone for Fisk Jubiliee Singer...not in the same category. LouieB

I don't know exactly what this is about, but it reminds me of visiting the Michigan shore, just around the bend from Chicago, New Buffalo/Union Pier/Stevensville area, with sand dunes and tall prairie grass, maybe a bit of early morning fog, small summer homes along the shore, the skyline of Chicago way off in the distance and a nuclear power plant down the way. it makes me nostalgic for those visits with friends to the area, back when we were all young. We'll all be surprised when this finally comes out. And pleased too!! It is all going to be fine. Jeff is a middle aged guy with teenage kids, a few less personal demons, and a world famous band. There are probably no more YHFs or Summerteeth forthcoming, but that doesn't mean what the band is going to do next isn't worthwhile. I am sure it will be interesting in its own way. Many of the musicians have developed significantly since joining the band and the band chemistry is significant. It is all going to fine. LouieB

Maybe, but I have never seen any of the current lineup play it. Nels plays lap steel, so maybe he could learn. LouieB

Put it out there.... LouieB

The Jayhawks (including Louris, Olson, and related)

My thought exactly....remixed...maybe...but then again weren't they correct the first time. With all these remaster reissues it is a really tough call. I played these two albums so many times when they were newer, I just don't see myself relistening to them enough to make it worthwhile, unless the outtakes really get great reviews (a la the Promise...) Okay, the Vic it is..... (how come musicians don't correctly master their albums the first time....) Yea, if they show up used somewhere I will buy them too.....we are all suckers for this sort of stuff. LouieB -
It was inevitable. The show wasn't ready for the opening; it was like going to see a tech instead of a preview. LouieB

Aren't these albums already out?? Oh yea, outtakes, etc, so they can get our money again. LouieB -
I saw that, but only because my nephew, who is a theater guy, told me about it. It looked really cool and really stupid all at the same time. They will never recoup the oost. It is on record as the most expensive Broadway show ever produced (Shrek being the most expensive up to this point) at over 65 million so far The music sounded okay, but entire idea seems totally goofy. Do we really need a musical of Spiderman? Do we need brand new villians (didn't the comics supply enough villans over the years??) Will they ever get the plot nailed down (it isn't yet). And will audiences pay the h

This one fell like a rock, but I have listened to all of it and it is pretty good, if sometimes derivative. Syl is playing the OTS tomorrow night and been getting some nice PR including this nice article from Greg Kot today.
