  1. Future Women maybe? I need to go dig it out of the not yet listened to pile. LouieB
  2. Yup, I saw that and talked to them on the sidewalk outside and then bought their first CD. I think I also saw them at the Hideout Block Party one year and then at Schubas with Centromatic. They had a good run. LouieB
  3. I gave this a listen, it was pretty fun. I remember when these guys were just kids. I need to crack open that Ms LP I have that I never got around to listening to, which I bought when they toured with Centromatic. LouieB

Okay in that case I take back my offer, even though I was offering it to a different person. I know the ONLY way to listen to music is on vinyl records..no CDs, no radio AM, FM, etc), no DVDs, no TV, no iPod, no computer hard drives, no boom boxes, no car CD players, no cassettes, no 8 tracks, nothing else matters....only LPs. Its still analog and a copy so she can "hear" it. LouieB

I'll put it on tape for you if you have a cassette player. (but what is the chance of that????) LouieB

I would guess Jeff could browse the bins if he chose to. I wouldn't bug him. Well okay, small bands make 1000 copies of LPs and have them to sell forever at their shows, but Wilco is no small local band that is on the circuit: it is a huge internationally famous band. So 5000 copies should be gone if there really were that much interest in vinyl records. Or could it be that since there is so much free concert material out there most folks aren't going to bother buying an expensive (and reissued, although in expanded form) regular release of some material from shows from a few years back?

    Wilco Vinyl

I did. On the Wilco vinyl watch.....I was in Lauries Planet of Sound the last couple days and there are copies of both AGIB and Summerteeth in the used vinyl bin, so if anyone doesn't have those, go get them. So Laurie's is certainly as much Wilco central as it comes (the closest record store to where Jeff Tweedy actually lives and somewhere he used to shop before he got too famous) and they carry his records new as well. But what would make a person return those albums? And why are there sitll copes of Kicking Television still out there?? I thought this was a limited edition thing.
  9. its become something of a standard so unfortunately I don't think we can stop people. And besides I am sure Leonard Cohen is more than happy to have folks sing his songs. Wasn't he in some financial deep water a couple years back? Folks singing this song help with his retirement. LouieB
  10. Some folks have too much time on their hands. Don't be licking MY tears thank you very much. LouieB
  11. I got it on audible and started it a few months ago and haven't listened since. It is fun enough. LouieB

I'll give you $30. This one was on ECM .LouieB
  13. I had a Volare also which I got from my parents. Those were the worst cars ever made. Everthing broke on it. I traded it for $75 and an electronic watch and got the better part of the deal. LouieB
  14. True, I give up. In that case none of those acts look like anyone I would want to spend a week with, but that's just me. LouieB
  15. Most of the Grant park and Millenium fests and concerts aren't nearly as bad as you are portraying them. Once again, they are free so how can you lose? You can play good money to go to concerts or clubs and be with tons of jerks, but generally the outdoor shows at these two venues are pretty mellow anymore. WXRT's 4th of July, well that's different. I don't do that. (Okay and She and Him sounded kind of like a drag too.) But I have seen all kinds of cool stuff over the yaars at both these venues with a minimum of hassle and no cost. LouieB
  16. All this is true. Coming to Chicago is not like a cruise....actually it is beter if you live in a less exciting local. You can go see all kinds of stuff you can't see on a cruise. I am not dissing a cruise, but you have to eat their food, be with cruise people, be on a boat for a week (or whatever) and be cooped up. Here in Chicago you can go to dozens of clubs, museums, restaurants, plays, meet folks from all over the world, etc. It isn't bad, but it isn't a cruise. LouieB
  17. Okay I suppkse this is true. Sometimes folks do multiple sets at the Chicago music fests though. If you like the blues it is not a waste of time and certainly not a waste of money since it is free. If you don't like crowds and drunk people in the evening it is a waste of time, otherwise it is a fine time and if you don't like it, just walk away, no problem. On a cruise you can't just walk away (you can go to your cabin I suppose) and it isn't free. LouieB
  18. Perhaps you are being sarcastic (if so I probably had it coming...) but the fact is the entire fest is free, has tons of great talent and you won't get sea sick. Guys like Taj, Bob Margolin and Ronnie Brooks play these events all the time. LouieB
  19. Taj plays just about every year at the Chicago Blues fest, so you could save your cruise money and just come to Chicago. Blues Fest is free. LouieB
  20. This looks moderately fun. Taj Mahal is very good. Kenny Wayne is a flashy white guy, playing white guy blues (does he sing now?) Ronnie Baker Brooks is the son of Chicago bluesman Lonnie Brooks and is also good. Dion..really? LouieB

Yea, if you are lucky. Eight Track may have been the worst futuristic technology ever invented. Unlike even 78s they don't last. LouieB

    Wilco Vinyl

There are record stores (Lauries??) that do sometimes carry 8 tracks. This sort of thing isn't worth much but someone would want it if they still have a player. LouieB
  23. No he never worked for the Trib. They can think of this stupid stuff on their own. Meanwhile DeRo is dispensing incorrect info on the Office of Cultural Affairs instead. LouieB
