  1. thinking about the math of this. they are paying Conan (and staff) 40 million to go away. they originally created the 10pm Leno show to avoid forking out 3million a season for a drama. so essentially, the original decision to give Leno a show instead of sending him away has now cost the network 40 million plus the cost to put a show in the 10pm slot and whatever they are still paying Leno. seems like they would have been better of paying the 3 million for a drama, for approximately 6 season than the blunder they just made.

  2. Hell, most of the Obama administration can't even properly file an income tax return.

I think by that you mean most politicians, etc. as I am pretty sure there's a lot more out there than just the Obama administration folks. Or maybe it is that those that came before them had other skeletons in their closest that were much more note worthy. of course, everything i just said is biased wild speculation.

  3.

My new motto: Don't take anything said to you on the interwebs personally. These people don't know me.

this is a new motto for you...I didn't think anyone took anything said on the interwebs personally...or seriously...

  4. So let me get this straight. This election in MA is operating as a proxy for the national debate on healthcare. And the people voting against it (ie, by voting for Brown), live in a state that already provides them with healthcare? Have I got that right?

I was wondering the same thing, but thought maybe I was confused being that I come from the land where people with voting rights continue to keep a population greater than that of Wyoming from having voting rights. Americans make absolutely no sense when it comes to how they vote and what they are voting for. and I am not really sure how a democrat stronghold like the Kennedy seat can produce and support a not so strong democrat candidate, ever. It is like the VA Gov race all over again. Where are we finding these piddly candidates at in the Primaries AND why aren't we standing by them during the general elections. Who is running this party? C'mon Tim Kaine get it together already. (and by We I mean democrats being one myself, although i am ready to go the no-affiliation route being we can't seem to legislate,or run a campaign, our way out of a paper bag with the numbers we have).

  5. OK, this is probably just me, but it really bugs me that this thread is in the Just a Fan section and not the Someone Else's Song section. I mean, I get the whole 'if you like Wilco' check this band out, but we're not actually talking about Wilco in the thread here, we're talking about other bands. Yeah, there's a comparison, but is there...is this really about Wilco or about other music. ...this is what happens when I am stuck in limbo on a project at work, I waste time pondering things of little consequence.

  6. It's hilarious and maybe a bit sad that a guy with no relation to the Kennedy clan and no experience campaigning, running for or serving in a public office can still garner 3% of the vote, clearly due to the fact that his name happens to be Joseph L. Kennedy.

that Kennedy name doesn't get people as far as one would think. my guess, his 3% is from people being unhappy with the other two. having that name has only garnered special attention for me twice in my lifetime so far (i am still holding out for some big something to come of having that name): immediate prime seating in a very busy restaurant in Boston and an additional conversation with a TSA guy during an airport screening, in which I almost managed to get myself screened further instead of being whisked through the airport line. i get quite annoyed when someone asks how you spell that...umm like the president...or senator...or supreme court justice...or....

  7. if I am understanding the question correctly, she only wants to love songs that aren't well loved by everyone else. it is odd, since one's taste is one's taste and well, if you like Heavy Metal Drummer or I am Trying to Break Your Heart...that's what you love. with that said, if she's keen on finding uncommon songs, start with wilco base, see what songs don't show up heavily in the live performance rotation and pick those. Wilco plays top requested songs at concerts and Jeff takes requests at his solo shows. She can then embrace the one's that don't show up all too often and I guess feel like they are her own. A few that come to mind:

    Radio Cure

    Less Than You Think

Leave Me Like You Found Me

and there is definitely a song off of A.M., I forget which one, that Jeff loathes and apologized for having to play it at the residency a couple of years ago. I forgot which one it was though.

although, I have already claimed Radio Cure as my own, so ...

  8. if you IM or email me, there's a really good chance I will respond and answer whatever question you have. If you call and leave a voicemail, it goes into the black hole and is often ignored. I stare at my computer screen for the majority of my day. If a message pops up, it takes two seconds for me to respond and get back to what I was doing (or not doing). If you call, I might not pick-up (because there are annoying sales people that won't take no for an answer and only know how to reach me via phone/don't get the hint when I ignore an email) if you leave a voicemail for me and you don't pick up the phone right when I call you back, there is no physical reminder flashing at me that I need to address something. Because I have such a hefty workload and intense deadlines, if I don't address something immediately, it goes into a black hole and will forget it. Asking are you there in an IM, is a quick way to find out if someone is available right away to answer a question. There is an immediacy that comes with IM (and text messages) that one won't necessarily get with email or voicemail. If you send me an email, there's a really good chance I will see it even when I am not physically at my computer.

  9. I think NBC should let Conan continue as is without Leno on the air; am guessing the drop in the ratings Conan is experiencing might have something to do with loyal fans of Leno watching at 10pm and not tuning in afterwords. drop Leno altogether and I gander the ratings would go up. NBC messed this up all royally.
